Buried in Darkness (Wolfenstein 3D-esque music!)

hey, you know i've made MIDIs and stuff, right? well, i took it a step further and did something even more retro: OPL-sound music!

"Now here's something unusual: Wolfenstein 3D music! I made the MIDI in FL Studio, using instruments that would translate well to the OPL sound library, which Wolf 3D's music utilizes.

 

The song itself was made in like 20 minutes as a proof of concept, and thus is nothing really special.

 

The hardest part was to understand how to make the song play in-game, as well as actually exporting it to an MP3! The trick was to increase the tempo by 20%, convert it to an IMF file (id Music File format), run it into foobar2000's OPL synth, then convert it to MP3. The tempo when doing a normal export (without 20% tempo gain) played just fine in-game, but I couldn't get an MP3 of it to export properly unless doing that percentage gain.
