@, Novella blushed and giggled a bit at Black's dancing.  "Well I can't do worse than that..." Novella thought to herself. "Maybe being Canterlot High Society for so long will finally pay off..." Novella stepped onto the dance floor moments after Black did and started dancing quite elegantly, surprising herself.

@@Silverwisp the Bard,

Asnee lost all the air in his lung as his back hit the ground and gasped for breath. He wasn't surprised to her reaction. In fact, that was what he expected to come, but he couldn't stand seeing the tears on her eyes. He didn't stop Joan or even calling her name as he flew off.

He sprawled on the ground. "Go away," he said to a, or some, passing ponies without paying any attention to them. He could see Joan's figure by the corner of his eyes, but didn't bother to watch. The moon stared at him, he stared back. She expected a normal life. His life was too normal. It made him felt like a little filly. Being safe under somepony's else charm, even after he had grown up. He wasn't looking for dangers. He just wanted something to live for.

"The bright moon shines, far is the road," His lips began to intone.

"People grow old, the heart does not.
Can't love, can't let go.
Can't never forget your splendor."

He remembered he sang that verse to Joan when they first met. If he paid more attention, he found that the poem actually had two meanings if it's sung from two different sides. He wasn't sure what did his great grandfather mean with that poem. What did he mean when he sang it to Joan?

Asnee groaned and wiped his face, keeping his eyes closed under his hooves. He laid there. His heart was filled with doubts. Not sure if he was waiting for Joan or just too heavy to wake up and do something else. He wouldn't mind if Butch came and talked to him. Drowsiness slowly takes his consciousness away, but he remained... waiting.

Rudolph watched sadly as the mare ran away, not even bothering to look back at them. She had looked spooked, as if something one of them had said scared her off. Gearbox had said aloud what Rudolph was thinking: "Was it something I said?"

Perhaps when Gearbox showed up, she had felt embarrassed to be seen with such an outlandish colt. Rudolph cursed himself for letting his accent slip through so heavily. Anyway, it was only a matter of time before the mare had run off, everypony else had left him earlier that night, perhaps she had more important things to attend to...

Rudolph stopped and shook his head. "Stop feeling sorry for yourself" he thought. "What do you take yourself for? A sap? You are Rudolph Jäger, traveler extraordinare. It probably wasn't you at all. She looks like an important pony, she must have had other engagements to attend to."

With that, Rudolph looked at Gearbox and said:

"I'm not sure what that was all about, but I will gladly accompany you to see Mr. Butch. It's about time I thanked our host."

"Do you not remember? We had introduced ourselves earlier this evening, but you had run off to meet the delightful indigo mare. It's really no big deal, I understand. With quite so many ponies here it can be hard to remember a new face," Rudolph laughed, trying to act more relaxed than he felt.

"Why did he frown at me?" Rudolph thought as the pair began making their way down the corridor and into the main hall, "I don't recall saying anything out of the ordinary... Perhaps he did not realize that I had recognized him." Rudolph realized that he was being rude by not speaking to the stallion so he turned and asked politely:

"How has your evening been thus far? I hope you are having quite a good time."

The horrified expression on her face revealed way more than she intended and tried covering her tracks by aaying just a bit too loudly, "I was invited!"

"Ooh....punch!" She ran slipping through the croud and making her way to the punch bowl that was located in the main hall and muttered to herself along the way. "Stupid stupid stupid!"

"The bright moon shines, far is the road," His lips began to intone. "People grow old, the heart does not. Can't love, can't let go. Can't never forget your splendor."

Hasta waited til the last other ponies had left the pool dropped from his hiding space on the rooftop and landed next to the earthpony, who still lay there like something huge had stepped on him.

"Hi there, name's Hasta, sergeant on probation, Canterlot Nightwatch." He tapped one claw against the jade eye on the fastening of the camo-cloak.

He saw the confusion in the other colts eyes and continued:

"The captain assigned me to monitor the garden, in case Butch decides to announce some huge crimes he's comitted to the hedges."

The other didn't laugh, it seemed that his sense of humor was once again wasted on society.

"Sooo, what was all that about?"

"Sooo, what was all that about?"

Asnee didn't get up, not even look at the pterasi's as he talked, "Shut up, kid. Just do your duty and everything will be fine." Being polite wasn't in his to-do list, nor was guessing the age of the Nightwatch. This colt had gone too sassy by asking about him and Joan. All he wanted was calming himself, or expressing his anger to another pony, and this impudent pony came in the right time. He enjoyed the thrill which flowed through his head.

He spotted Joan's hat laying on the pool side, "If that's all you want from me, now help your Captain and return that hat to her. I doubt Butch will do anything ignorant after all." He reluctantly sat up, "You have some wine?" That sentence slipped from his mouth out of nowhere, but he didn't care. He felt like he needed some.

"You have some wine?"

"While on duty protecting the helpless people of Canterlot? Whatever must you think of me?"

He scooped up the bottle Joan had knocked over earlier and expertly pulled out the cork with the other claw. The stuff tasted awful, but to his pleasant surprise there was a worm floating inside. He slurped it up.

"And you hold on to that hat; if your marefriend finds out I've been down here, she's gonna have my backside. And not in the good way."

He took another sip, waiting for a reaction.

"Not a colt of humor eh? I see why she likes you."

"Not a colt of humor eh? I see why she likes you."

"Try to find out why she doesn't anymore." Asnee said by curt, followed by another snort. "It's just you pterasi who have bad sense of humour." He was slightly surprised that the sergeant didn't leave and continued the conversation. His head felt heavy, so he didn't think of making another move to shove the colt away, no matter how annoying his questions were to him.

Asnee's gaze was glued to Joan's wide hat. The image of her wearing that ridiculous headgear still floated clearly in his mind, resulting him more desire to get something to drink to forget about her for a night. He noticed the beverage Hasta drank, and waved his hoof quickly, gesturing the pterasi to come closer. "What is that? Taste good? Let me have some."

He left his foreleg hanging to Hasta, waiting for the bottle while his head gazed down at the floor.

"What is that? Taste good? Let me have

Somwhat reluctantly, Hasta handed over the bottle.

"Here, but leave some for me. And dibs on any worms you find."

He chuckled as Asnee coughed, obviously not used to this kind of liquor.

"Now stand up your small little ears, because I'm gonna drop some knowledge. Hanna has her bursts. She has her hooves and claws full with running the first Nightwatch in a thousand years, playing equerry to the Princess and convincing Equestria that pterasi don't suck blood. If you think the little show just now was bad you should have seen her before she met you. After that business with the chariot she screamed at me and Gavi so much that I thought I'd go deaf. And we were acting on royal orders. And I'm taking that."

He snatched the bottle back from Asnee's hooves

"The point I'm trying to make is that we think you're good for her, so just give her some wiggle room and you should be just fine. I mean she even read up on all that culture stuff of yours."

Asnee coughed the liquor out. It felt somewhere between bitter and spicy. He rubbed his tongue against his upper teeth several times to get the taste gone. "What the hay did you make this from?" he murmured between his rubbing tongue, "We don't even use worms in Haysia."

After listening to Hasta's explanation, he sighed heavily. He was about to grasped the bottle again in reflex when he remember how horrible did it taste. Despite of their intense differences, he didn't want to lose Joan. At least not that way. He leaned forward, reaching the wide blue hat. He cogitated about what to do. "Tell me more," he chuckled, "Why you think I'm good for her."

"Or... I bet you know where she is now, don't you?" Asnee rose an eyebrow to Hasta.

Rudolph accompanied Gearbox in approaching Big Butch. He was quite an intimidating specimen; so huge that his forepaw was about the size of Rudolph's head, if not bigger. Rudolph quickly realized that you did not want to make this dog angry, for he could do some serious damage.

Rudolph watched as Gearbox offered a hoof to their host. He watched as they began conversing, however his mind drifted away as he gazed around the room. He found himself looking for a certain short-haired mare.

"Where could Cuppie have gone?" he thought to himself, "Butch is right here... Oh, I hope she is alright"

Cuppie arrived at the punch table gasping for air after losing sight of her enourmous boss the amount of ponies closely packed together was enough to sufficate a pegasus and this one was beginning to feel claustrophobic. The space around the punch table was less crouded than the most of the house so she had enough room to stretch her wings a bit. Then looking at the punch and noticing that it was almost gone and bit her lip "maybe I should tell Apple Juice that the punch needs a refill" she almost moved toward the kitchen but stopped herself and shook her head "no what am I thinking I am a guest, sorta, and I will act as such." she poured herself a drink and turned to look out the window thinking "maybe I should go outside no way Butch would fine me in the garden"

"Or... I bet you know where she is now, don't you?"

"Well, right know she probably realized that flying around at night with a wet mane is not such a great idea, so I guess Nightwatch Tower."

Hasta said, notching his head to the side to indicate the distinct shape in the distance.

"As for you, I don't really get what she sees in you, when there're handsome fellows like me around, but I guess it helps her get her mind off work once in a while. Shoulder to lean on, that kinda thing."

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a tiny figure dispatch itself from the tower.

"Well, looks like the moment of truth fast approaching."

Now what to do. The captain wouldn't be able to recognize him over this distance, but perching on top of the roof flying into a tree would spark her suspicion. No other way. He shrugged off the camouflage cloak and crumbledit under the bench, noting Asnee's expression at the tuxedo underneath.

"What? Some of us like to think there's some glamour in espionage. I'll make my exit through the inside, just keep her here for a minute or so, okay? Good luck."

"I'm gearbox, nice to meet you."

Butch took the hoof that pony and shook it. To his relief, the pony squirmed somewhat, which was reassuring. After the business with Hoof, he had been afraid he was losing his grip.

"Good to meet you, Box. How has the party been treating you? And who's your friend here, has he lost something?"

"Well, looks like the moment of truth fast approaching."

Not that Asnee thought about Joan again, Hasta was right. Noticing Joan made her way towards them, he planned for himself a set of actions he would do as soon as Joan landed. He gave no word as Hasta hid and reasoned. A little thought that she might flew straight at him and hit him hard also floated in his mind, but he convinced himself that he deserved it.

Minutes later, the Captain had entered a range where she could catch his voice, yet, Asnee didn't move. His mind raced to arrange a long and reasonable apology, and he just gave the last period, ready to speak it off. His head still felt heavy, and the gust from Joan's wing made him looked down again.

"I...," he started, getting ready to apply his best literature skill. Instead, "I'M SORRY, JOAN!" he shouted the the ground, closing his eyes tight. He could hear a slight movement from Hasta's hideout, but he still didn't open his eyes to see if the pterasi broke his espionage. He just didn't dare to. He waited for any respond as the sounds of flapping wings faded out to the night. Good or bad, he had said it.

Gearbox relaxed a bit after being massively shook by the huge dog.

"Pretty good, thank you for asking. I met a nice mare earlier..." Gearbox reminded himself why he's here.

"Sir, imagine something for me, if you will." He said, standing next to him, looking out into the hall. "Imagine if you could send your huge cargo ships across the land, landing huge ships to these small towns, delivering twice as much as those carts you use." He waved his hoof around in front of him, like he was drawing on a map.

"I'M SORRY JOAN!"

Joan touched down and carried her momentum into something just short of a gallop, barely managing to deposit the clothebag she had held in her mouth on another lounger, before barreling into Asnee and bearing him to the ground, frontlegs and wings wrapped around him as hard as she could.

"Same here", she murmured into his mane. She could hear the sounds of somepony  tiptoeing away somewhere nearby, but paid it no heed.

Butch nodded sagely.

"I see you're a business do- eh pony, Mr. Box. But I can tell, where you went wrong. You see, ships need water underneath, otherwise its a whole lot of draggin' and just easier to use carts"

He turned to the other pony, who was wearing a rather nice hat. You could wear that and a helmet underneath.

"You lost something?"

"Same here"

Warmth started to loosen Asnee's chest, even though he still felt not-so-right about everything. Asnee circled his forelegs around Joan, pulling her into his heart. He was curious about the cloth bag she rested on a lounger, but he saved it for later. After a moment long enough for Hasta to escape, his another hoof reached for Joan's hat, and he touched her cheek to position her head so she stared at him. He still couldn't see right into her eyes, so he just sank Joan's hat onto her head, partially blocking her sight of him, not even dare to say a word. Her feelings sure weren't mistaken. Words might create damages. Trying to be as careful as possible, he slowly leaned backward so Joan could rest on his chest, remaining silent.
