music My first EP. Yay.

Yep.

This took about a couple months. Nothing really spectacular.

So what are your thoughts on it as a whole? Anything too similar? Too lacking?

Could be cleaned up a bit, drums could be thicker, some sounds are clashing with each other on some notes but it's very groovy!

Just needs some mastering but it was pretty funky, so good job!

I'd give this like a 6.5/10

Keep makin' music, you have potential!

Your second track was pretty repetitive with the reversed beat.
Maybe add a breakdown or a chorus with the original beat?

I'm not all the way through yet, but I like your sound.  You've done a good job with the panning as well, I hope that was intentional.

Your tracks sound really good actually, the drums could some extra kick though.  Try adding a Sine-Punch every 1/4 beat between the A0 and F1 range to go with your main kicks.  That will give it that clubby punch.

One thing I'd like you to work on is your song structure.  The song is really good, but it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere.  It feels like the whole track is one repeating chorus.  I'd like to see what you can do with risers, breakdowns, hooks etc!

I'm curious to see what else you can do, so I'll sub to your channel.

Hit me up if you ever want to talk about music, or whatever!

Ooh, now this is more like it!

Well, my songs are kinda intentionally repetitive. I try to create a feel similar to 90's house. It's not really meant to be super complex, just simplistic.

I am thirteen... I'm still new to this.

And I don't use stuff like FL Studio or Abelton. If I did, It would be a ton better.

I appreciate the criticism, though. smile.png

You should use FL Studio, dude!

It's SO much better than other DAWs, either use FL Studio or Ableton

I started off with a lower, less complex DAW called Mixcraft, after I used that for a bit I grew out of it and started to use FL Studio.

You should continue to use your DAW right now, when you feel comfortable, make a switch to Ableton or FL, you will feel so much more control and tons of tutorials can help you to get started, you can learn how to mix and master like a pro and create unique music!

Best of luck.

Yeah... But here's the problem...

chromebook-closed.jpg

That's my computer and my only one. It unable to run ANYTHING (Games, programs, not even Unity Web Player! :/ )

So i'm forced to use what I use. I would switch to a better in a heartbeat, but i'll have to wait.

I would definitely recommend making the switch on your hardware, and going with FL.

My ableton is coming up on 70 GB on my system now, and it certainly has no problem warming things up.
To achieve proper latency with my hardware uses a lot of computing power.  I built my computer specifically for Ableton.
But yea, stick to what you've got.  It's not really about what you have, it's about how you use it.
FL is definitely a lot more friendly to less-capable systems.

What are the specs on that system?

Samsung Series 3
XE303C12 1.7 GHz
Samsung Exynos 5 Dual
2 GB DDR3
16 GB SSD

And it's unlikely i'll get anything anytime soon. I'll just have to make do.

Dude!!  What????

That's so nuts that you were able to do what you did using that!

I can't wait to see what you can do with a real program!

You seriously just blew my mind right there, that's insane.

Oh, you flatter me... wub.png

I think I should mention that I use a program of sorts on my PSP to sample stuff. And I use this for editing. wink.png

Also, I wanted to ask, what genre do you specialize in, if you had to choose one? derpy_emoticon2.png

what genre do you specialize in

What Genre do I specialize?  That's hard to say.  When I DJ, I prefer to do more of an Electro, Electro house, fidget type of sound, but I'm a mobile DJ, I have to be able to do whatever other people want.  So I guess the proper answer to that is anything Electro/Electro House really, if I had my choice.

When it comes to production however, it's a bit complicated.  I would like to get myself to the point where I can make music for other peoples projects, like animations, movies, etc etc. So far, people have told me that I have a more video-game-ish sound though, so I've been capitalising on that for a little while.

Okay, this is pretty much freaking amazing if you didn't even have a fully functional DAW at your disposal. The mix sounds really lush and full, which is more than I can say for anything I've ever made with an operational DAW. It would make really good lounge music pretty much as it is right now, I'm positive. Definitely following your future work!

So is the brunt of the song sampled material?

Thank you. :)

...Pretty much, yeah.

You know, listening to this now makes me feel like there's something lacking in every song.

I should definitely redo this in the future.

Well there was only so much you could do considering the technical limitations. Once you've got a proper DAW you should be able to do much more. The EP was really good to start off with, I would say don't redo it unless you really really want to. I'm not the type who likes redoing old work, personally.

Definitely stay away from old work.  The only real way to improve is take the lessons you've learned from the old work and apply it to new projects.  I could sit here remastering and and adding choruses to my old material, but I wouldn't get anywhere!

Not that I could do anything at the moment because of this slump I'm in, but I totally agree with @@@Katella Avenue

I want to see you start something new and awesome!

Little side story, I see a guy in the New York Subway all the time, who plays music with a sample pad and a Gameboy Color for an Interface.  If you're able to integrate a PSP in your setup, that's totally rad!

Coming from a complete plebeian who doesn't understand any of the fancy computer music talk, I'm going to say that it sounds pretty damn good. Although I have no idea what it's supposed to be. Sounds a lot like those Daft Punk fellows to me, but again, I have no idea what I'm talking about here. Great. Keep it up.

Well Daft Punk's Random Access Memories was made primarily with live orchestration and vintage electronic equipment, so I figure if anything that Aesu's work would sound closest to it. No soft synths in RAM as far as I'm aware.

Yeah, it's got all of those features and production characteristics that some folks love. Like I said, I don't know anything about this computer music, but this sounds like Daft Punk, who I hear on occasion. And I always thought that they sounded really good. What do they call this type of music exactly?

House! If you wanna get specific, it's French House, which it's common to sample old disco songs. wink.png

Although, I think my stuff is more Disco House since i'm not French.... huh.png
