I've never understood the whole hatred for Cloud and Tidus honestly I don't think that cloud broods AS MUCH as everyone says that he does as for tidus besides the infamous laughing scene his character was a arrogant "kid" (I'm not sure canonnicly how old he is) and i felt that was how he was portrayed. Both of these characters are some of my favorite of all RPG's I have played

I really hate Cloud. If you've ever played Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, you would know why. (Highly recommend it!)

You learn the rest of Cloud's backstory from that besides what he tells everyone in FF7.

 

So I guess my hated for him stems from that game. :/

I personaly liked Cloud mich better the Squal as for Tidus he's kinda eh to me even though at the end of X i didnt want him to go, abd i still think Seifer should get a spin off game but just my own opinion

I'm neutral toward Cloud, I guess.  Didn't give too much personality for me to base him off in FF7, but I guess that's the point? I'm indifferent toward him.  As for Tidus, as much as I loved that game (One of my favorites.), I just found him to be sort of annoying and whiny for whatever reason.  Some people however just wants that 'cool, silent, antisocial' sort of 'stereotypical' sort of main, I guess as that's what most seem to have gotten used to while Tidus was one of (?) the first that actually was really talkative and such.  I don't mind a bit of personality of course, in fact, I might even prefer it.  But Tidus didn't just have a personality, he had that sort of 'cry baby' attitude, as most would refer to him as.  In the end, I don't hate and I guess to some extent, he may even be one of the easiest to relate to.  I think in the end, it really just boils down to his voice and lines for a lot of the game.

 

Of course, I'm talking/explaining what seems to be the case from what some people complain about.  Tidus is one of the most complained about FF 'heroes' there is as far as I see.  One of.  Another thing most complain about is his attire/clothing.  As it seemed to be 'thrown together' last minute and while I don't think one should be judged on that alone as it doesn't necessarily build character's personality (Character or not) it also seems to be the case. 

 

I'm very indifferent toward a lot of things though, I guess so I'm personally not disliking of any of them enough to say I hate them.

Cloud I probably liked less than Tidus but I did not dislike him. He is harder to 'get to know' and relate to is all but he's still a good character. Tidus you get to know very well, and get to share in his emotions and story a lot more....

 

But to say everyone HATES both these characters is a rather sweeping statement.

One of the things I liked about Tidus is that he showed emotion. Maybe it wasn't emotion that was 'acceptable' for a male to show, but I think that was the whole point. Why is that men/guys aren't allowed to cry or show that kind of emotion? why is it considered a sign of 'weakness'? Probably the same reason that watching My Little Pony is considered "gay' and sissy for a guy to do.

 

Society puts so many expectations on the male gender to be "tough" and emotionless and macho, they deny a male the right to be soft, warm, fuzzy, sensitive and emotional. Where does this  leave us as men? Bottled up, ready to explode sometimes, and haunted by internal emotions that we aren't allowed to show.

 

Thank God Tidus had the courage to cry in that game.. His father died.. i think he had every reason to cry! As do we all when we feel any kind of pain, regardless of gender.

Yeah, sadly a lot of people who 'disliked' or 'hated' him though made that the point of disliking him apparently. 

 

Like with Cloud, I'm really indifferent toward either but it's one thing that I used to see a LOT on certain sites/forums complaining about him (back when I used to go on FF searching spree and such lol).  I admit that I did get annoyed with him from time to time but not at all for him being emotional.  As mentioned, if anything it makes it easier for people to relate to him... unfortunately I guess some just can't break from what they're used to sometimes.  I'm not upset with them of course as everyone has their own opinions but it is pretty sad that people dislike him for that sort of thing.  That or the clothes. xD I've actually LOVED the game, and while Tidus wasn't exactly my favorite character, his personality didn't kill me.  I actually found him pretty silly/enjoyable in some parts, and he actually was actually a fairly multi-dimensional character if I recall.  I overall liked the game and he didn't ruin it in any way for me! ^w^ 

 

I do agree though that it's sort of sad that he's disliked by some (not all) with that being one of the main reasons from what I've seen often discussed anyway.

I actually found Wakka to be pretty annoying. LOL just all the Yah stuff and the accent along with the far out hair do and his clothes.... sheesh! but i didnt' dislike Wakka either. I liked all the characters on FFX and it's my fav game EVER thus far. I guess cuz I'm a sucker for romance and adventure rolled into one and a real SAP about such things. 

 

We all like something different which makes the world interesting. if we all liked teh same things... 

 

MEH!

 

BORING!

I dont know Cloud all that well, but yes I really dislike Tidus.

Because: He's BUCKIN' annoying! I can't hate however, because hatred is just against the code.

To me Cloud just seemed to get more and more unlikeable as the game went on, and KH/Crisis Core/Advent Children certainly doesn't help

 

As for Tidus, I never really figured why so many people hated him. He was really annoying, but that was my only problem

Cloud I can understand disliking. The character was un-relatable to on every level and the antisocial baddass is so cliche. To top it all off, he also felt very shallow.

 

I really cannot understand the dislike of Tidus as a character though. Annoying? Sure, but who isn't? However, he also grows out of a lot of his shallowness as the game progresses and really does become a hero. His emotion was appropriate I felt. Watch the laughing scene (it only counts as bad acting if you did not understand it. Seriously, people.) then follow up with the events in Home. That is character development at it's absolute finest.

 

Then you have the antagonists they were paired with. Sure, Sephiroth is iconic in the JRPG world, but Sin has the presence of a hurricane that really brought a lot out of the party characters with no words at all. None. Just him showing up made everyone cringe and become introspective, and Tidus the most given his circumstances. Maybe if Cloud had had a better antagonist, (honestly, I liked very little about 7 except Yuffie. She cracked me up.) he would have been a better overall character. A great example of this is 9, without Kuja who was a decent villain, Zidane would have been a slightly above average character, but feeding off each other is what made them both outstanding.

People hate Tidus for being an arrogant, whiny, selfish little brat. Yes, that's his character but it's an annoying character. And yes, he grows a bit...But it's still very much present even at the end. Also his fashion sense is worse than clown vomit on a dumpster fire.

 

People hate Cloud firstly for being broody and frustrating and secondly for being the beginning of that "look at me I sure can mope and brood and sulk and not be very interesting" character tradition in the FF games. Sure, he didn't have as much "..." dialogue as Squall but he laid the blueprint for it. And personally, I just hate Cloud because I prefer Sephiroth. XD
