Pondah looked up from the desk he was facing with a small smile on his face to see two new ponies had entered the area. "Well that's good timing," Pondah told the pair. "A few moments ago there was enough dust in here to give you pneumoconiosis! But anyway, I am indeed Pondah. Feel free to tell me your names if you want to."

 

Pondah pointed towards the mound of chairs and desks. "I'm not going to be that talkative as I've still got those desks and chairs to move."

Ember smiled at Pondah's friendly greeting.  Having a building to get in out of the rain had him feeling much better than before, though he was doing his best to ignore the sound of the rain outside.  "Nice to meet you, I'm Ember Sparx.  Just Ember is more'n enough though."  He steps further into the room, turning to smile at Caramel.  The farther in away from the rain the unicorn went, the more relaxed he felt.

 

While giving Caramel time to introduce herself as well, Ember was busy looking at the chairs and desks Pondah had pointed at.  Hmmm...  While not voicing anything yet - he was still trying to get over his period in the rain - he was trying to figure out what all Pondah was doing.  Looks like he's cleaning up, if'n I had to guess.  Wonder if he'll let me help...  I mean, if I'm gonna be staying here 'til the rain stops, least I could do would be to repay the weather team somehow...

"The name's Caramel sir, Sunny Caramel from Appleloosa," Caramel said proudly, "pleasure to meet ya!" She looked over to the chairs and desks briefly before tapping her hoof on the floor and continuing, "Guess since we're here, we could give ya a hoof or two in handlin those desks and chairs."

Sky, having seen the two get out of the rain, proceeds to close up the holes in the clouds he poked. As he finished up, a large bolt of lightning narrowly missis him, singing the tip of his tail. Closing the final hole, a cloudburst starts with him underneath it. He flys himself to the front door of the office, entering dripping wet.

"Nice to see everypony made it to a dry place, he says with a laugh as he opens his wings, flapping them to shake the water off before putting them back down.

 

He walks over to Pondah and hold out his hoof for a hoof bump. "Nice work Pondha! The floors are so shiny I can see my reflection."

 

Sky looks to the two that have two new ponies in the office. "Well everypony make your self at home. We're going to be here a while." Sky walks over the large team captain desk and puts his hoofs up. "In case I forgot to mention it, I'm Skycoaster, but you can just call me Sky. I'm the.....I guess you would say new weather team captain of Baltimare. I don't believe caught your names though?"

"Welcome to the office, Sunny and Ember," Pondah said with a warm tone. "There's no need for you to worry about the desks and chairs. I've got it under cont..." Pondah broke off during his sentence as his mind caught up with what he was saying.

 

'You're being offered help! How hard is it to just say yes?'

 

Pondah glanced at the ground with mild shame before looking back up at Sunny. "If you really want to help," Pondah said quietly. "Then go for it."

Pondah's smile grew smaller as Sky walked into the room. "Oh... thank you." Pondah said quietly in response to Sky's compliment. It took Pondah a few moments to realise what Sky's outstretched hoof ment. Gingerly, Pondah placed his hoof on Sky's.

"Oh, I'm sorry, you can call me Ember.  Thanks for savin' us from the storm Sky, s'a pleasure to meet you."  Ember was starting to get back to his normal self again now that they were out of the rain.  He had stopped trembling at least, and his breathing was about back to its normal rate.

"I'd be happy to do whatever I could to help out while the storm's going on, in return for letting us stay here.  It's the least I can do for savin' me."  He smiles at Caramel at the last part, knowing that it would likely seem odd to the other two.  Suddenly Ember's eyes go wide again and his ears perk up.  "Ah, but first there's somethin' I need to take care of!  I hope nopony minds?"  

 

Without waiting for an answer Ember trots over to one of the empty desks, levitating his saddlebags up onto it.  He begins to take the contents out of his bags, having no problem levitating multiple bottles and vials at once.  They would appear to mostly be colored dust and rocks to the standard observer, while Ember was muttering under his breath as he closely inspected each one.  "Please don't be wet, please don't be wet, please don't be wet."

Sunny's light blush grew redder as Candy started pecking her below her mouth and trailed down. Yes, she had most definitely been deluding herself. 
Candy's plan to scare Sunny, while unbeknownst to Sunny herself, definitely worked. She sighed and relaxed when she realized her marefriend was just trying to give her a scare.
"You are too, but if you keep scaring me like that, I'll be a stuttering wreck again in no time," she teased, cuddling the mare back.

Candy giggled mischievously, and shot a joking glance at Sunny. "Oh, come now, you know you liked it. Cutie." She teased. Candy felt a sudden feeling of guilt, and sat up, then sat down properly on the floor, next to Sunny. She felt a deep need to explain herself.

 

"I'm sorry I get that way though...I was bullied for liking mares, when I was a filly...and honestly, I was pretty...deprived...of physical attention. I mean, I couldn't even get hugs from the ponies I called freinds. My parents treated me differently. It was all kinda weird. That's why...being with you," She frowned, but then sort of smiled, "I get to feel love...and I get to feel love." Her small smile grew much larger.

I'm still here, just letting everyone do their stuff - that's why I'm not posting so much. Bubble shall return to bother folks as usual soon enough.

 

 

Meanwhile, Bubble was sat in the center of her room. Building the machine was hopeless: she knew that she didn't have remotely close to enough skill to even start - let alone finish the contraption that her sister hadn't managed to perfect after years of work.

 

The goggles, on the other hoof...

 

Removing the lenses by prying the brass frames apart, she set them to one side and assessed the damage before setting to work. They meant a lot to her: not because they were particularly useful but because of the sentimental value: her sisters first 'invention' - long since replaced but left with her.

 

And she had ruined them.

 

Never one to let little problems like 'total and completely lack of knowledge' stand in her way, she reached for some of the materials she had brought to her room and started working on fixing up the lenses as best she could.

Sunny blushed at Candy's comment. 
She sat up as she saw Candy getting ready to tell her something. She listened to her story and her ears flattened. When Candy was done talking, she pulled her into a hug.
"That's horrible, sweetie. Nopony deserves to get treated like that. I hate hearing about things like that happening to ponies I don't even know. It kills me to know you got treated in such a way." she said, wishing she could go back in time and make Candy's life easier. 
"Still... you have bravery. I didn't realize I liked mares until a few years ago, And I haven't figured out how to tell anypony. You just figured out I like mares when we started dating." she chuckled lightly.

"Well, I'm glad I have such an understanding marefriend." She smiled, and kissed Sunny on the nose. She stood them up, and moved them to the kitchen, "I'm still sort of hungry...but then again, that could be from the boredom of being locked up in here." She chuckled, glancing at Sunny. "More cuddles?" She grinned.

The mare was gleeful to know that there were kind ponies all throughout Baltimare...not counting the flamboyant singing on the streets ordeal. She had always been impressed by the weather teams throughout Equestria, even when her Pa didn't exactly say the kindest words when Appleloosa went through that drought a while back. While glancing at Ember occasionally, Caramel smiled brightly to Sky as he trotted in, "Thank ya again for lettin us outta the storm...Sky. The name's Sunny Caramel and that stallion over there is Ember. A pleasure to meet ya a little more properly." She held out her hoof for a hoof shake respectfully as she winked at Pondah, "Doncha fret, just tell me where ya want 'em and I'll get 'em movin' for ya directly."

Sunny chuckled and checked the time.
"Actually, i'm hungry too, and I think I know why. It's early afternoon; we missed lunch." she giggled and nuzzled the mare, before walking to the kitchen counter as she had when she was going to make breakfast.
"How about we eat something, and then we can cuddle again," she said.

 Candy didn't object to any other ideas that Sunny had presented. She started hovering over and watching Sunny cook, so as to learn a bit more about it herself.

 

In a short time, they were at the table with more pancakes in front of them. Candy immediately dug in, and finished in a matter of minutes. She left her plate in the kitchen, and on the way out, tripped over her own hooves and hit the floor. A muffled groan could be heard from the carpet.

Sunny giggled at seeing how excited Candy was to eat her pancakes again. She had just finished and was about to take her own dishes to the sink when she heard a thump and a muffled groan. Turning around t see Candy laying face-first in the carpet just outside the kitchen, she got up and trotted over to her, snickering a bit. Candy looked rather comical like that.
"Are you okay? How did you fall?" she asked standing beside the mare and holding out a hoof to help her up.

Candy took the mare's hoof, stood up, and rubbed her face, "Me...I tripped on me..."

 

She soon drug her hoof down her face, in a self-annoyed manner. The great taste of the pancakes from moments ago now replaced with the pain of accidentally biting her tongue when she fell. She finally chuckled at herself, "Kiss it better?" She joked.

"Don't worry, I do that all the time," she said, leading Candy back to the table and sitting beside her.
She caught the joking tone in Candy's voice and giggled, but leaned over and kissed the mare's cheek all the same. She beamed when she pulled away, chuckling again.
"All better?" she asked jokingly.

Pondah turned back towards Sunny and placed his hoof on hers. He looked towards the mound of furniture and counted up what needed to be arranged. "We've got four regular desks, four chairs and one large desk," Pondah announced. "I reckon that we put the large desk opposite the entrance, two of the regular desks on the left and right facing each other and then put one in the corner."

 

Moving towards the furniture, Pondah tried visualizing what his arrangement would look like. The "U" shape idea he'd come up with would allow for a large open space in the centre and mean that everyone could see each other and communicate easily.

Candy blushed in a way that would show happiness, more than anything else. "Yes, so much!" She giggled. "You just always know what to say...maybe I can learn..." She scratched her chin for a moment. "I still really wanna help you discover your cutie mark..." She smiled, "Maybe we could try some stuff?"

Sunny chuckled at Candy's reaction. When the mare suggested to try stuff to discover her cutie mark, she tilted her head and scratched her chin in though, much like Candy had done a moment earlier.
"Well, like what? Is there something you have in mind?" She asked, smiling at Candy.

Sky looked over to Pondah from the large desk, nodding at him in approval for accepting help. "Well, That sounds like a plan to be, but I'm beat for clearing the old cloulds and starting that storm. Don't mind me if I take a nap behind the desk here." as he yawned. "Pondah, when the storm is all done, I need to ask you a question in private. It's nothing bad though so don't worry."

Ember let out a loud sigh of relief - it seemed as though the seals on his reagents held up against the rain, and his supplies hadn't been damaged by the water.  Packing up his things and putting his saddlebags in the corner where they would be out of the way, he trots back over to Caramel and Pondah.

"I can help out too!  It's the least I can do for lettin' us in out of the rain."  With a smile he gestures towards his stump of a horn.  "I may not be a strong pony, but I can still help move stuff thanks to this."

"Thanks. We can use all the help we can get." as Sky let out another yawn. "I'm going to treat you guys to lunch, what do you say. Anypony know a place nearby? I'll just go grab it and we can eat in the break room."

 

Sky got up and went to the door and looked out the window. "Yep, about another 5 hours of rain left in them." he said as he waited for everypoiny to make up their mind on what they wanted to eat.

"Ah'll have me just about anythin. Doesn't really matter to my appetite," Caramel laughed before placing her hoof firmly on the ground. "Alright then, I guess we'd best hop to it then Emb!" Happy she could work her muscles after all the time she had been in Baltimare, Caramel trotted over to the first regular desk and crawled under it before heaving it up with her back. She winked at Ember before walking slowly to the opposite side of the room.

When Sky said he'd need to ask Pondah a question, he stopped dead in his tracks. His pupils narrowed to pin-points and he gulped loudly.

 

'Oh no... not good! This is not good. He says "it's not bad"; what if it is just to keep me calm so he can fire me? Technically zero days working and I'm already at risk of losing my job!'

 

Pondah tugged a regular table to the corner spot he'd pointed out earlier at a high speed, determined to prove that he could work at a high intensity. He pointed to a different spot on the left of the room  with a hoof.

 

"Ember," Pondah said quickly and with a croaky voice. "Please move a desk there."
