~Scootaloo 440 August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 (edited) Sometimes people post links to websites outside of the forums so why not have a small warning? like have it say warning you're leaving MLP Forums. Example: Why? well some sites aren't safe. Perhaps there could be a safe list of sites (ie YouTube, DeviantArt, and etc) that wouldn't show the message. It'd just serve as a warning, and maybe there could be an option to disable it from the CP. SCS 7,537 August 3, 2013 Share August 3, 2013 I support your suggestion. I'm sure that there are some people here who may not have a lot of experience with the internet, so having a friendly reminder such as that in place would be helpful to them. It should be automatically turned on for all users, but everyone should also have the ability to turn it off in their user control panel, so that those who already knew to be careful could turn it off. To make sure that people are aware that they can turn the redirect warning off, there could be a link on it that says something like "click here to never see this message again," which would automatically change the setting in your user control panel for you.
Zygen 6,066 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 (edited) I'd be cool with this idea, its on alot of other sites, and It would give me a second thought before clicking stuff I might not want to. Plus a toogle is a way to satisfy like everyone if some don't like it that's always there for them . Edited August 4, 2013 by Zygen 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! BrainyBrony 252 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 Yeah, I support this. Even though I'm quite skilled with computers, there's always the odd site that's a bit dodgy. Something like this would definitely be cool, especially if you could type in the URLs of certain websites you're fine with, so that you don't get the notification for it. Derpy Azusa 272 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 I also agree many sites use this feature to warn members. I also think some sites like youtube, deviant art or other sites like those won't show the message. MY SIGNATURE IS ON A ROTATE SO IT WILL CHANGE Azusa Signature By the AMAZING Azura! Batbrony 16,055 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 Come to think of it, that's actually not a bad idea. I mean plenty of sites like Deviant Art do it, and I can't imagine it'd be terribly difficult to implement. Good idea ~Scootaloo, hope the mods seriously consider your proposal and maybe even implement it! 1 "You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Jokuc 8,173 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 Why not? Though if there was a way to do so you wouldn't get this warning from known sites such as youtube, eqd etc, it would be great
Retro*Derpy 3,183 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 Yeah I can see why people would like this, but I find it more of a pop up than a warning. I mean if someone posts a YouTube link it is pretty obvious that you will be redirected to YouTube. If it can be a optional thing, I'd support it.

That's not for sure well yeah, but maybe you could do something so every known website won't get this popup thing? I mean so it's only for less known sites.
Mutemutt 773 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 Honestly, I find it more annoying than helpful. Rarely ever am I surprised when a link leads off site and rarer still do I ever decide to turn back at one of those warnings. At that point it just feels like a pop-up; I just want to hurry up and get rid of it: the opposite of the intended effect. But if I can just turn it off for me personally, then it's not a big deal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ That's not for sure Url preview still shows where you are going anyway, if anyone is actually that worried about renamed links. But, to be fair, I trust you enough that I would have clicked the link without checking the url anyway.
NavelColt 22,880 August 6, 2013 Share August 6, 2013 DeviantART uses this, and has for a long time. I wouldn't be against it, if it's rather straightforward to implement, though you must also take into account how redundant it could be. For sites like DeviantART, lots of their stuff is self-maintained. On a forum? Links to the outside world are as common as corn fields in Vermont. Many, many people will find it a pain in the ass more than helpful, as said above.

Blue Moon 6,341 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 (edited) I wouldn't mind having it as long as it was able to be disabled. Those message are kind of annoying to me, and I'm sure there are other people who disagree with me, so I think it would be a nice thing to have. Golurk 468 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 I would wholeheartedly support this. Unless I'm mistaken, there was recently an issue of someone posting a link that led to a virus that actually caused a widespread problem. Perhaps implementation of such a warning could prevent such issues in the future. Now while it'd ultimately be up to the user to go to the site in question, it would help remind people that not all sites are safe. I think such a thing would be very useful. And I'm fairly sure I'm not just speaking for myself when I say that I'd greatly appreciate this. 2 Indeed.
Harmonic Revelations 8,835 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 I agree with this wholeheartedly, as long as there is an option to disable it listed in the User Control Panel, I really don't see how it could be annoying.
