Of Alicorns and Other Forms

So, I am really curious after the end of Season 3. If an Earth Pony or Pegasus were qualified, would they be able to become an alicorn at all? If so, why? If not, why not? Does that make unicorns, implicitly, a superior race?

Well, I heard that Princess Cadence became an Alicorn when she was initially a pegasus. I haven't read the book, so I don't know all the details.

All pony types are able to become an Alicorn if they reach some higher form of enlightenment in something profound (i.e. love, friendship, muffins).

That's because she truly understood was love meant. It is said that when a pony has a fond understanding of something deep (such as love, courage, one of the elements of harmony etc.), they get elevated to alicorn state. So although Applejack is an earth pony, if she truly understood what honesty meant in a level beyond the surface, she could become an alicorn.

Oh, see, that's what I always wondered. To me it seemed peculiar if only a pony who could actively cast magic was able to become royalty.

I think it would be possible for them to achieve Alicorn status, but it would be difficult, especially for earth ponies, as they would have to do something amazing. I suppose something like the sonic rainboom would qualify one, but I can't think of anything that an earth pony could do.

I think sonic rainboo, isn't enought,because it needs to be something sociable example: love ,friendship.and other stuff aswell like sun, moon.

Main fact is, you need true authority and respect to be one, hence why there's less than five in existence from what I've seen.

Ah, but how was the sonic rainboom achieved? It happened when Rainbow Dash realized that Rarity's life was in danger! If that isn't friendship and loyalty, I don't know what is.

It was an instinctive thing, and saving a life is something that any decent person should at least be able to attempt, if not do, when the time comes. I think an alicorn is the paragon of their chosen element, in that they understand their element so completely they could give anyone else lessons on how it works, and they always strive to be the authority of that element, sort of like it's real life representative.

It is definitely possible. But, it usually takes a lot of knowledge and a way to improve on your Element to be able to ascend. Usually, you would have to have wings or a horn to ascend.

I think any concept, even those that aren't explicitly elements of harmony, could possibly be developed to the point where you become an alicorn. It may even be less specific than that. After all, Celestia and Luna both represented multiple elements, so it's possibly just a transformation that occurs when you become especially potent as an individual.

She's related to royalty (somehow) and she was clearly a very compassionate and caring mare when she was young. She probably had a great many ponies looking up to her even when she was really little, so she ascended off that. At least, that's what I'd guess.

True. So then, you would consider the element of something like respect? Very well, but I could think of a lot of other ponies that are more devoted to their "Element" than some of the princesses.

Well we rarely see the Princesses anyways, and I think the thing about them is that they're generally just wiser and more representative of the majority of their elements than those who aren't alicorns. The fact that they can lead their own nations implies that they have a lot of the attributes our smaller ponies individually represent. And Twilight became an alicorn because she achieved that status as well, being the center of her group of friends.

Ok that makes sense. But isnt for celestia i think. And twilight is celestias student and rainbow dash isnt that makes diference not everypony can be actualy celestia's stundent, Needs to have magic strenght
