movies/tv CSI Shows: Don't they just annoy you?

I began watching a series called CSI: NY and there are a few things that annoy me about the show:

  • How the characters display some unknown "power" over people just because they are CSI: I know the actors are just acting, but the characters act like control freaks. For example, in episode 6 of the first season, there is a Hispanic car mechanic who they begin picking on him. CSI: "Would you mind us looking at your car?", Car Mechanic: "Why?", CSI: "Would you rather us get a warrant?". That was just an unnecessary threat. Clearly he was just concerned about his own rights as a citizen. Citizens have a right to know why their property is being investigated. It is like the show is saying "Either let them do their job without even knowing what they are actually doing or get your flank kicked". That just annoys me.
  • Feminism: In the show, a father's daughter gets hurt and when he is talking to the female CSI, he talks about how his daughter is more vulnerable to these kind of things. I would understand this statement because yes women are more prone to being attacked, especially in NY, because of the rise of rape cases. Then, the CSI woman goes all about how women are able to protect themselves and so forth and how she fought hard against the criminal(which wasn't even relevant to what he brought up).
  • Arrogance: The CSI act like they are perfect. For example, in episode about leg amputees and how doctors performed surgeries for the removal of limbs. What happens is the guy illegally ampitaded some guys leg because the guy asked him to and the guy was mentally unstable and the guy felt bad for him and did it because of how he felt not doing it and his friend committing suicide. The CSI begin investigating him and when they figure out he did it they go all crazy on him because he actually had feelings for his friend, like they haven't felt bad for people or for other CSI and had done something not bad the book.

These are just a few things about these types of shows. What does everyone think?

I feel like sometimes the shows presume to much. They also do ridiculous things like this:

Which is soooooo un-realistic! Thats the main issues I have, apparently the background story lines between the characters are good to watch. I prefer other similar shows to CSI, but all of them feel very far fetched tbh!

Meh, this is basically all cop shows in a nutshell nowadays, they're so overdone and unrealistic, you just want to throw a rock into your TV.

Honestly, I used to watch them all the time, and I'm glad I realized how shitty they are, and these are the only TV shows channels can make nowadays, next to reality TV shows.

That is the other thing that drives me insane. THEY ARE ALL CLICHE.

And I think this drives something negative into the realistic world. Do some investigators act like jerks? Yes. All of them? No. My relative used to work in the police force and respected all people. He would obey the rights of the citizens(unlike some who would actually go into shops and get free food because they are the police, which some how grants them rights to free stuff).

These shows also drive the public down the road of fear because they feel that the same thing can be done with them. Brainwashing maybe?

*shuffles*

I, um, really like CSI. :3

I know, I know, it's a horrible show with outlandish story lines and cliched characters, but I'm a sucker for formula shows. And I especially like Grissom.

I agree that the possible future of investigtion could be like this, where you are able to see the crime in 3 dimensional outlook just by taking a 3D image. I guess I am more for the reality aspect.

That was so hilarious.. I watched that video 2 times for the full effect.

Too many cop shows and detective shows and what-not are way too copy-paste these days.

You just described nearly every show like this. The only real one I have watched extensively is NCIS, only because my brother's girlfriend is obsessed with it. All that you mentioned here, is present in that show.

Seriously, the arrogance of the characters is overwhelming. They have the characters upstaging and being all cocky with military generals as if they are better than them. They also put these people way above others in different fields, like paramedics or just police officers. The way that these shows are done, the way they handle the dramatic parts and the humor, it feels really predictable, the humor especially, since all of the characters are made with their own blatant stereotypes.

I can see where it is charming at first, but once the arrogance of the characters kicks in, ehhhh, in my opinion it gets old quick.

Haha, yeah I had not even picked up on the fact or mentioned that a lot of the CSI's are very similar / are very similar to other shows like them.

I'm surprised at how many different ways they ahve thought of for killing and murdering people considering how long they have been running!!!

Yes, oh Celestia yes. Enough already, these shows have run their course. Real law and forensics are not like these shows at all. Instead of being honest with us and presenting their work as a regular job, they make these characters all-powerful beings who act as inspectors, detectives, scientists and criminal investigators all in one. Can you imagine if these nimrods were running around in real life? xD

A little bit.

You know what REALLY irritates me though?  The un-history channel... -.-

Every time you flip to the "un-history channel," it's always either ancient aliens or Pawn Stars...  It's complete bullshit!
