MLP vs Dragon Ball Z - which one is the best?

There is absolutely no biased here. MlP and dragon ball z are not comparable imo. I like both shows a lot but MLP means more to me right now so I like it more. Dragon ball z has had a bigger impact on anime in japan than MLP has on cartoons in a america though, just look at naruto, bleach, one piece and 90% of shounen.  .

i actually never saw a full episode of dragon ball z, so i dunno if it's any good.

I want to say MLP but that's only because I can't stand DBZ's animation style. The style makes me groan to the point where I can't watch it.

My friend loves it, so I'm trying to get into it. But...the animation is just so bad and definitely not something I would enjoy. I would rather have nice-looking animation. So...I gave up on that show.

How can you compare the two? One's an anime focused around action and the other's a show about talking magical ponies going on magical adventures. It's like comparing a taco to Obama. You just can't.

I've always been a DBZ fan from the start of my first episode many years ago and my feelings toward it are almost identical to when I saw my first episode of MLP : FiM, so I believe both shows are very well done with very different but with equally powerful emotional pull! I think the reason some ponies feel one way or another is because the Dragon Ball Epic had been running since the 80's. for those skeptics out there, just give MLP a little more time to get some more ground covered, I guarantee it will be just as Big an Epic!

I believe that both shows are good, they both have their share of criticism so I wouldn't be surprised if someone hated Dragon Ball Z and My Little Pony. But, they are both two different shows with two different styles. Can't really compare the two.

I think comparing the two is kinda strange, and sorta pointless.

 

It's an apples to banana comparison, they don't share much in common besides being animated.

 

Ones based on action, one on pastel magical talking ponies.

 

However, I like personally mlp more, I only watched the first like idk 30-40 Dbz episodes so idk.

 

I just haven't got near the love and appreciation for it as Dbz.

 

But I have nothing against it, I know plenty of people who love it.

The two aren't really comparable...  (Other than the fact that they both use 2-dimensional animation I guess.)  I prefer MLP because I feel that it satisfies its goals better than DBZ.  MLP is a show about six friends that learn to become better friends with a bunch of adorableness thrown in, and it does this very well.  DBZ (from what I remember and what I watched) is a lot about fighting, but every fight turns out the same way. (Villain is very strong; Gohan/Goku/someone else goes super saiyan level x+1 (where x is the level required to beat the last villain); They beat villain. To be fair, you could probably pull out a similar formula for how an MLP episode turns out, but, to me, it doesn't feel as grating and repetitive as the DBZ formula.)  It doesn't even excel in the drama department, because despite the number of and importance of the characters that they kill off constantly, it's really no problem for them to collect the seven dragon balls and resurrect them.

 

EDIT: I will however say that I love the DBZ Abridged series.  It's probably my favorite Abridged series out there.

IMO pointless poll.....

 

I can't really compare two shows. One of which is where people fight and kill other people while the other one s about ponies and friendship.

 

I really love DBZ though because it's my childhood (Which is something is has going for it) so excuse me if I rage against someone that insults it. Both shows are perfect at what they do so all I can say is. No match because you can't compare them.

This is the strangest serious comparison I've seen in a while. The two shows go in completely different directions when it comes to their approach to entertainment. You'd have a better time trying to compare Lucky Star and MLP:FiM (and even that might prove a little tough) or something along those lines, but that's besides the point...

 

Anyway, if you asked me right now which I would rather watch at this very moment, I would pick MLP. To be honest, DBZ is one of those shows that are better remembered than rewatched. It just hasn't aged very well for me; I'm not as entertained by straight up action shows that are filled with characters that are way too powerful for their own good (I know this seems ironic coming from someone that is a big fan of Disgaea, but Disgaea doesn't take itself nearly as serious as DBZ).

To be honest the whole power level thing was meant to be un-reliable when they were introduced. When Goku starts fighting against essentially planet destroyers then it's fine because he's essentially a planet destroyer himself =)

Yes, but then making that planet destroy increase his power by going SS1, SS2, SS3, SS4 then Gogeta SS4 and people STILL standing after getting hit with a Full-Power Big Bang Kamehameha is just a touch overkill

My own bias personal opinion is that I like MLP a lot more. DBZ is not something that I like watching, and I'll just keep it at that.

People are right to conclude their different shows, and shouldn't be really compared. Considering they have a different audience/genre.

Well think of it as Superman vs some other Superhero who is equally as strong. They won't one hit kill people who are just as strong as they are.

This is a very bizarre topic to see pop up here.  Honestly, I'm a massive Dragon Ball fan and if I had to give up one of the franchises, I'd probably begrudgingly give up ponies.  But then I think that there's next to nowhere left to go in my Dragon Ball fandom-ness, meanwhile there's plenty of unexplored territory in Brony-ing it up...so I might rethink that.

The good news is, I'll never have to make such a decision.

I don't like One Piece, mostly because of the animation style

 

I haven't tried Naruto yet, though.

 

I mean, if someone likes that style, then cool, but it's not a style I would personally enjoy.

Personally, I prefer MLP. But DBZ is also a great show. their video games are awesome. My favorite DBZ video game is totally Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2. Good day.
