Loose the Topsails! is an age-of-sail roleplaying game with a french revolution / 18th century theme, and ponies!

 

I'm currently accepting sign ups, and once we have a few people we will start.

Midshipman Jaeger - Officer

Corporal Agent Cell - Marine second-in-command

Lume Greenpark - Ship's Surgeon

Midshipman Calypso Dia - Officer

Rules

*Be active! If you go inactive and you don't report in within a month, we'll have to find someone to take over. If you're going to be away from your character for a while, simply messaging saying you'd like to take a LOA and how long it will be, approximately.

*There are only three species allowed on this roleplay: Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies.

*Be respectful. To all of your fellow members. If you have an issues with a fellow participant, contact me so I can help solve things peacefully.

* This is a PG-13 roleplay. Romance and Violence are allowed, but if it wouldn't be in an Indiana Jones movie it shouldn't be in this roleplay.

*If need be I may take action against a player if I feel he/she's misconducting themselves. I'd rather avoid that however, and most such indiscretions under that category can be prevented using common sense!

 

Information

The TMS (Their Majesties Ship) Resilient is a 44 Gun Heavy Frigate. It has 40 x 30 Pounder cannons on each broadside and 4 x 20 Pounder chaser guns on the front and rear (one on each). The crew has 360 Sailors and 30 Officers and Midshipman. It has a Marines detachment of 55 marines and 6 NCOs. Adding them all up, that's a complement of 445 crewmembers.

 

Once we reach 12 roleplayers we'll divide in half and roleplay as a squadron. This gives everyone opportunity to take command without having to make the veteran commanders having to give up their positions after they've put so much work in. So please, tell all of your friends about the roleplay!

 

Nautical Speak

Knowing basic nautical speak will help you roleplay a bit. Here are some very basic terms you should know.

 

-Larboard (left side of the ship)

-Starboard (right side of the ship)

-Aft (back of the ship)

-Bow (front of the ship)

-Chaser guns (the guns on the front and back of the ship -aft chasers, bow chasers-)

-Broadsides (the guns on the sides of the ship)

-Clear for action! (to roll the guns out of their gunports and ready for battle)

I'd like to fill up the crew of the Resilient first until I have a commanding officer for the Hornet, so gladly excepted! Be sure to tell your friends about the RP, I'm waiting to get 5 people before we start!

I'd allow you to have multiple characters, as long as they're on different ships. You could have one OC on the Resilient and the other on the Hornet.

Alright, sorry I took so long. I'll be applying with Gladius. His backstory was made with a specific roleplay in mind, but I think it should work fairly well with any military role. Obviously he would be using weapons more appropriate to the setting than his namesake roman short sword, but he'll still probably use a blade rather than guns most of the time. Of course, I have a thing for early firearms, so I can't guarantee that I'll stay true to my word on that.

 

Oh, and there's a pretty good chance I'll end up submitting a second character. I just haven't found one that really seems like a good fit yet.

 

Oh right, I suppose if he can't be some sort of officer, Gladius would just be a marine. So either captain of the other ship, or marine commanding officer, ideally.

Being the CO of the Hornet is a big job. Are you sure you ready, willing and able to commit to that?

Marine CO is a pretty big job. I'd rather you only be marine CO on one of the ships. You can still have a second character though, perhaps a regular marine.

Excellent. Gladius' character works best when there's someone above him giving orders. It's kind of hard to demonstrate his loyalty otherwise.

I really don't want this to die, so I'm mostly just posting in the hopes that this will get some more attention. Given my past experience with similarly themed RPs, I'm surprised this hasn't attracted more people. I'll see if I can't bug some friends about joining.

Yes, yes. Very good. Thank you. I was worried about it dying myself. I haven't heard anything from Al Capony or Sir Gamington yet. If not, I'll just start off with the Resilient and we can fill the Hornet up later on.

I'd love to be either an officer of some sort, preferably a Commanding or First if any are still open. Are two OC's permitted? If not, I will only use on in a commanding position, but if so, then I can fill another position.

The two OC's I am considering are Cosmos and Burning Leaves. I feel that they would both suit a commanding role and I need to flesh them out a bit anyways. Ember is brand new, so don't expect too much detail on her backstory yet - I just wanted to do something in her design, LOL. Just me mucking about a bit. XD

Angsty isn't a quality one wants in an officer, but it would definitely make for some good roleplaying. I think Leaves is a good choice though.
