I'm Lightning Bliss, graphic designer, 2D animator, character designer, background editor, storyboard designer and story teller, who is more then happy to give tips or provide character designs for those folk who are looking to have their own pony character.

 

Why ask for my help?

 

Unlike the Pony Creator tool (which I would recommend to give you an idea on designing) I tend to look for the client's specific requests when it comes to creating a character for them. Pony characters have alot of specific quirks, colors, cutie marks, body and facial design that can tend to be one sided with the Pony Creator tool, and therego you could lose touch of how you want your pony character to represent your own personality or ultra ego. For instance, when I created my pony character, I took several things into account:

 

Tips

• Representation of personality (I'm cheerful, shy, confident, can doubt at times, have a passion in many hobbies)
• Colors that represent the personality (Even though you must LOVE the colors of your character, you should also take to consideration how those colors represent your character, and can always be used as an obvious suggestion or abstract)
• Flying, unicorn or land pony, can be determined as something as simple as whether you like the idea of being a flyer, magic user, or you prefer the ground. (Since I love being free spirited and follow wherever my passions take me, being a pegasus pony was my best choice)
• Hair style/color of hair and tail (some would say less is more, I say choose what best to represent your character in personality. Since my character is mostly based on how I behave as a person, my hair style actually is close how my hair style is in real life, color on the other hand is not so much due to that the color represents my inner charm)
• Cutie Marks (it's easy to get carried away or even be confused with designing your own cutie mark. I went through several MLP FIM personality CM quizzes of what mine could be before I realized designing something that best represented me was the best choice. I have a personality that can be a bit all over the place when it comes to my hobbies, but in that fact I have so many hobbies, and loves in those hobbies, a heart design was my best option, combined with the colors of the rainbow to show that my loves is constantly changing. Not to mention the lightning bolt going down the middle representing my enthusiasm)

 

With all these tips and more taken into account, along with the specifics the client asks for is how I determine your character design. I take all requirements seriously and will only offer suggestions if asked for.

 

I have practiced ability in the MLP FIM design and can create signatures and avatars to backgrounds or wallpapers of the character by request, but I tend to vary on prices.

I never thought of using a universal object or thing for a cutie mark to represent multiple hobbies. That's a good idea. Cheers

These are all good insights.  Could you send me links to some of the CM quizzes so that I can get a better idea on how I can inprove mine?

Sure thing, it was realitivly all the same forms of quizzes, some more elaborate then others, but at the end of the day those quizzes never really gave what I feel was a good cutie mark description or image for that matter that best described me. For instance in one quiz that was pretty elaborate, it asking how I'd react in certain pony situations or what were my likes and dislikes in hobbies or events, and it came up with that I was a shy but kind soul that had a passion for reading and writing and that my cutie mark was a notebook and pencil. Another one came up with a similar option only the cutie mark was a telescope that represented my love of science fiction and bookwormism.

 

Thing is though, those are like a fraction of things I love to do, and my love in hobbies is constantly darting back and forth or changing, and I wanted a cutie mark to represent that. When I came to that conclusion I started researching on how can cutie marks represent ourselves, and two ways they actually can: abstractly or to the point. Being my personality is multy tasking in my hobbies and loves the abstract cutie marks were the best way to go for me. The rainbow represents my many loves in life and the lightning bolt represents its sponatanious energy that I have. Color also takes into account when designing though, and since color is not one of my strongest passions, rainbow, white and black where my first choices. White represents purity innocece, sometimes cute to which my fiance says I tend to be all 3, black can be used in neutral or negative, I tend to think in my case its mysterious and elegant hehe. In the last link that one was what placed me in the right direction in regards to what kind of pony I was and what colors my cutie mark would have, though it wouldn't actually give me an image of that mark, but it pointed me in the right direction. My results from that quiz were as follows:

You're a pegasus with multiple personalities. At some point you're interested in one thing and at another point you're interested in something else. It's hard to pinpoint your special talent as it's changing so often!
