Mywas 687 September 11, 2013 Share September 11, 2013 I mean why did they not give Sombra a right hand to do the talking for him? I mean they had Sombra based off Sauron from Lord Of The Rings yet they forget the most important thing about Sauron, He Had Saruman to do the talk and cause some conflict for the main characters, I get not giving him an army of orcs as that would be too dark but what if they gave him a right hand. Have him a crystal pony that is pretending that hes gonna help Twilight but when they find it he reveals that hes working for Sombra all along and fights Twilight and Spike and throws the Crystal Heart to his master but Wife Throwing happens and we all know the rest. It would have ade the episode better, made better respect Sombra better, Gave us a real Minion instead of the nameless Changelings and Snips and Snails who were a failed parody of Pain and Panic, and overall everyone would be happy. Armchair Adventurer 211 September 11, 2013 Share September 11, 2013 (edited) I would have liked Sombra to interact with the mane characters. Having a "right hand man" would have been perfect keep that threatening presence feel they were going for and still let us know more about him. The best thing about Discord was the way he interacted with the mane six. Queen Chrysalis has also had a lot of fun moments both before and after she revealed herself. I liked the idea behind King Sombra but I didn't like the execution. Having somebody speak for him would have helped it a great deal I believe. Have they given him a Right hand who talks about how Sombra is going to make the princesses pay and have him do the dirty work without taking the mystery part away from Sombra nobody would have complaind except for shippers who want an emo villainl. Meghan should have rewatch Lord Of the ring one more time before writing the episode. 1 Credits to Mint Drop for an awesome Sig.

Wait, This gives me an Idea, you know like Lich from Adventure Time had his body destroyed but he possessed That Snail and then went on to possess important secondary characters and used them as new bodies, What if Sombra did the same and possess one of the Princesses, that would make a cool episode. 1 Credits to Mint Drop for an awesome Sig. That could work really well actually ! Sombra could work on getting close to the mane 6 and manipulate them maybe? If I was him I would be really curious who managed to defeat me and playing them as pawns in his game could be a very cool and intricate revenge. Wardaddy 470 September 11, 2013 Share September 11, 2013 (edited) Oh my Celestia, I think I may have a theory linking Nightmare Moon and this thread. What if Sombra somehow convinced Luna to return to being Nightmare Moon? I'm personally sure NMM wouldn't return without good reason, and while Twilight wasn't wholly responsible for bringing down Sombra the first time, perhaps her ascension meant bad news for Sombra, as it meant with four princesses and the Elements of Harmony taking up the defense of Equestria, he'd have no chance if he attempted to strike back. So he devised a plan to eliminate the kingdom from the inside out, starting with the re-awakening of Nightmare Moon to firstly take out Twilight, before taking out Celestia and Cadance as well, in exchange for Luna ruling Equestria alongside Sombra. Or.....perhaps he was aiming directly for Twilight. Somehow he must've gotten wind of the fact that Twilight was becoming what Starswirl failed; the most powerful alicorn in existence, maybe even more so than Celestia. So to eliminate her, he convinced Luna that Twilight would ascend to the throne before she would, and would even do a better job than she ever could. Luna obviously got jealous, confronted Twilight and became NMM. (Don't contradict me! I don't want to face the fact that what we saw in the sneak peek was Twi in a flashback! I want to somehow prove that NMM is actually returning! I'll take any opportunity, no matter how farfetched or ham-fisted it appears!) Well since he can't get into the empire he needs another thing to focus on, I am pretty sure he would hold a grudge againts Twilight since she was the one to unlock his traps, and lets face it those traps could have trapped Almost every single character except for Discord. I am pretty sure he would love to take over Twilights Alicorn body. 1 Credits to Mint Drop for an awesome Sig.

Koelath 445 September 12, 2013 Share September 12, 2013 (edited) I get not giving him an army of orcs as that would be too dark Ugh, what is it with this fanbase and this "too dark" nonsense? Wimps. No wonder cartoons are only ever seen as kid shit. Chrysalis had an army of mind-controlling form-stealing demonic insect-horses. How are orcs suddenly too dark? Not really, Lich from Adventure Time had about as much as Character devolopment as Sombra and he returned, hell they din't even devolop him the second or the third time he appeared and kept him as a looking threat than an actual character each time. The Lich's sole drive is to end life itself. That's his development. He is essentially a form of death incarnate and he needs no further development than that: He came into being, and he wants to kill everything. Sombra is an actual character and thus is held to a higher standard which he failed miserably to reach. There is literally no legitimate comparison between the two. Plus the little fact that the Lich was actually threatening every time he appeared while Sombra spent most of his time growling like an idiot on the outskirts of town. I think thats the writers fault for not having him as a Shadow monster rather than a Unicorn turned into shadows. Then nobody would complain about his not talking or not having character devolopment. Also he did not Growl like an idiot, he was waiting for the shield to come out so he can enter, and once he entered he only got distracted for a minute when he saw a Crystal Pony which seems to been his obsession like how Broly was obsessed with Kakarot. And once he saw Spike with the crystal Heart the only thing that could kill him for good he rushed to him instead of laughing at him like Discord did(to b fair for discord even if the elements worked it wouldn't have killed him.) Not to mention he had placed traps that Twilight barely solved until the last one which you can't teleport or fy out of or even break it(means all three types of ponies are covered) one if you take notice was activated by Sombras horn. Sure he did do as much as Chrysalis but saying he did not do anything at all is stupid. Edited September 12, 2013 by What Credits to Mint Drop for an awesome Sig. Either way, the point stands: When your villain spends most of a TWO-PARTER (and most of his visible life in this case) just growling menacingly while waiting around for a shield to drop, you've successfully written an incredibly non-threatening villain. Castle Bleck 19,448 September 13, 2013 Share September 13, 2013 (edited) @Koelath- You'd have been right, had you not overlooked some things: "Okay, so he waited around growling like an idiot..." Should he have just expositioned his whole plan instead? Chrysalis was that way, and look where it got HER. "...until the very end where he tried and failed to do something." Uh...that "something" was the Crystal Heart, and it was...you know...LIFE-OR-DEATH FOR EVERYPONY!!! Besides, he very nearly succeeded by the skin of his teeth...er...fangs. "...just growling menacingly while waiting around for a shield to drop..." 1. Shield = love magic (not much, just his ONE FRICKING WEAKNESS). 2. He DID de-magic Shining, keeping Cadance from getting a boost for the shield. 3. His OVER 9000 preset traps ALONE nearly beat the good guys, shield or not. "...you've successfully written an incredibly non-threatening villain." Which is scarier: someone openly threatening to stab you, or someone trying to stab you without warning? Thought so. pinkiefan1287 610 September 13, 2013 Share September 13, 2013 It's a pretty neat idea, but I'm not sure if they would have gone with it. To what we are give about Sombra, he is a unicorn who craves powers and seems to work alone. I just don't see how they could work a Saruman into the episode and make it work. Still it might have worked. 1 Made by Gone ϟ Airbourne
Castle Bleck 19,448 September 13, 2013 Share September 13, 2013 @What- If you think about it, Sombra actually had a "Saruman" all along: his traps, which also seemed a lot like sign-language warnings to intruders (remember Twilight's magic-door vision? It ended with her seeing a stained-glass picture of him throwing her into what looked like Hellfire and brimstone; worst of all, he'd have probably really done that to her if he'd won). I think the only reason people underrate His door is because a trap no matter how clever and scary it is, is not as intresting as a real character. On topic I think that his Right hand should have been like Dr Facilier whos weak but relies on his "Friend on the other side". Credits to Mint Drop for an awesome Sig. Limey 524 September 13, 2013 Share September 13, 2013 Personally, I'd rather he had a Mouth of Sauron than a Sauraman. I feel giving him a Sauraman-like character to be his messanger would take some of the attention away from Sombra, as Sauraman is more than just a mere messenger. Winona the Dog 1,984 September 13, 2013 Share September 13, 2013 (edited) I think the traps themselves spoke for Sombra. A door leading to your fear, a endless stairway and am inescapable trap by the Crystal Heart ( One where Twilight's teleporting is ineffective) Basically I think Sombra was a rather interesting villain because of his bloodthirsty nature. Hadn't it been for the shield Sombra would've done some horrible things to the ponies. Edited September 13, 2013 by Ember The Dragoness
Silverhoof 2,844 September 14, 2013 Share September 14, 2013 Why did they not give Sombra a Saruman? Because the episodes are only 22 minutes long. Stories tend to be cut to the quick, and characters like Saruman take up too much time. This just means we need another movie.
