The Old President of Nintendo Died

Just saw this on my Facebook feed, I didn;t know much about him but I'm sure he had a place in many of are childhood just by virtue of helping create Nintendo as a gaming company. It's really kinda sad to hear about.

This man is responsible for everything i know and love about Video gaming, Just to think without him Miyamoto would have never been hired by Nintendo, they would have never started a deal with Sony which broke off and lead to the Playstation. Microsoft probably would have never made the Xbox at the time they did to compete with Sony and Nintendo. We would be in a world without Mario and Luigi, Link and Zelda, and Samus.

Mr.Yamauchi was one of the most important people in Video Game History, it is truly a sad loss.

Thanks for Everything and like always Leave Luck to Heaven.

It's kinda sad, but just think about all of the great games he has had a hand in creating (and consoles to for that matter)!

It's crazy to think how many lives this guy effected with his decisions!

Nintendo hasn't been the same without a Yamauchi in charge. Without Nintendo, I wouldn't be a gamer today (even if I've almost entirely moved onto the PC today.) Without him, the North American video game market would have ceased to exist.

ugh, so many losses of big names in the industry this year...

I actually wouldn't mind this lol

But then again the only two Nintendo franchises I like are Stairfax and Feezo, so I guess without him they wouldn't exist either :(

Oh well, Godspeed Mr. Old Nintendo President. I hope you can join the other CEO's of big companies and throw a big ass heaven party or somethin'.

It's doubtful if we would've had gaming as we know it at all right now without him. After the game crash interest in gaming had all but died until the NES came along and revived the market.

The current president of Nintendo had this to say on the topic:

"We will continue to treasure the values Yamauchi taught us - that what makes you unique lies at the core of entertainment. And we at Nintendo will continue to change the company flexibly to adapt to the times, as Yamauchi did, to carry on his spirit." - Satoru Iwata

Words can't even begin to express how sad this is for me. As others already mentioned, he was possibly the most influential person in video gaming history who affected the childhood of many, and will continue to do so with his legacy. You will forever be missed, Yamauchi-sama. RIP.

If you are not aware that he is dead, he have sadly passed away and if you do not know who he is then i'll explean it to you: He was the on who made Mario and Zelda (more here)

for me it really got me thinking that no matter what you do and who loves you, you will die some day..

Post what you feel about it and if you knew that he was dead or how you found out that he died

I beieve you're confusing him with Shigeru Miyamoto, who is still alive. Still sad though, because Yamauchi was the one who hired Miyamoto back in 1971.

In a way he was behind it, he was the one that pushed for Nintendo to get into the gaming console business and the NES revived a dying market.

That I can agree with. Yamauchi had a great sense of how to market a game or game console, even if he claimed to not understand them. Without his knowledge of how to market a game, let alone revive a dying market, we wouldn't be here, mourning his death.

Sorry to nitpick a simple typo, but I think you mean 1977. Anyways, even though I grew up more with Sony than Nintendo, this is some sad news. Rest in peace to him.
