I like how I can now do this:

 

 

 

Status updates, forum navigation, profile access and PMs without scrolling back to the top. I for one accustomed to that "stalking toolbar" quite fast and I like it now.

 

YES YES. I hated keep on going up to the top of the page to get to the toolbar.

I think that it is great, aside from the toolbar at the top of the screen that scrolls with you. I prefer that to stay at the top of the page when I scroll down. Perhaps the developers could implement a feature that allows you to choose whether or not the toolbar stays at the top of the screen when you scroll.

Looking at the new elements in the new theme, it seems very much like it's going nearer to a look akin to the interface formerly known as Metro. That may or may not be a good thing, I dunno what is going to happen in next iterations.

 

Secondly, the new theme has not improved page load times or truly made large scale changes other than the top banner. I don't see it as much different.

The new forum theme is miles better than the old one.

1. It sticks to the Poniverse brand far better. Check Pony.fm and Poniverse, and you'll see the same Josefin Sans typeface. The navigation uses the same beautiful, clean typeface, connecting the Forums with the rest of Poniverse.
   
   One small critique: The kerning in some of the letters is a little finicky, for the lack of a better word. You have big gaps between some characters, while most are extremely closed.
2. The navigation no longer intrudes with the banner. If I ever want to create a banner, I have to create it with severe restrictions in space and composition in mind. The new forum layout gives the banner a lot more real estate for me to work with.
3. It's much more user-friendly. When I used the old theme, I would have to scroll up or hit Command+Up just to click on a button, activate the pull-down menu, or use the status updates. Now wherever I go, I always have the navigation following me at all times and don't have to scroll up anymore.

Oh cool, there IS a way to disable the stalking toolbar.    I think for now I'll turn it off and if in the future I change my mind, I can. 

 

It's also nice that banners won't have to be customized as heavily to accommodate the toolbar. 

 

EDIT: 

 

One thing I make a lot of use of is the bar that goes:  MLP Forums >Beyond Equestria>Everfree Forest at the bottom of the screen.  Now I only see it at the top and I have to scroll back up for it.  Please put the bottom one back too.  Thanks!

I was just about to come in here and announce that.

 

I don't subscribe to change for the sake of change. This layout is bugging me a bit, it does not feel as functional. I will be happy to provide more technical feedback once I have had time to play with it a bit more.

 

Considering the only major change is the navigation and header I don't really understand how it could become less functional

As an example, it is one more click to the search bar. One more click here, one more click there ads up. As you stated, not much changed, and you are right, it is change for the sake of change. However, that is my 2 cents, and I would rather see active developers than lazy ones.

 

It's not change for the sake of change, the aim is to always improve and the skin hasn't really changed much since the forums opening 2 years ago so it did need an update

 

I also understand the point of the clicks adding up but I don't consider those buttons to be primary buttons on the navigation and I had to place them somewhere so they ended up there.

Alright I like the new design, it's simple and looks pretty good, I'm actually not sure if I like that the thing is following or not, I both like it and dislike it, but whatever.

 

Anyways I have a couple of things I would like to bring up..

 

1. The buttons are bugged for me, whenever I hover over them the list comes on the sides

 

 

2. The search function is harder to reach.

 

3. The search function is  bugged, I get an error when I search.

 

4. You can no longer search for other things than the page you're on by clicking on the search topic as you could before. For example, if I press the search button it will say "forums". Before you could press that and change it to "members" for example, directly. Now you must go into advanced settings which is really annoying.

 

5. What's up with my profile background?

 

6. The logo is impossible to see on some user's profile pages now when the background is transparent.

I've encountered this before but it seems to fix itself on page reload...

Was already an issue isn't caused by the theme.

Whoa, gotta say I am liking the new look MLP Forums!

 

The fact the navigation bar follows you, for me personally, is more handy and convenient.

 

It looks sleeker as well.

Did you disable anything in the browser options when you originally installed it? Try using a different browser like Chrome to see if it works in an alternative browser. If in an alternative browser it still does the same thing make sure you have Windows or Mac OS X up to date.

Criticism is all well and good, and it's nice to see a balance of both enjoyment as well as skepticism thus far. For those few people who appear to be a tad bent out of shape, let's try not to make a big deal out of things to the point where irritation needs to come into play. The mindset that 'change is inherently bad', or that 'the moment you see something new, means it will not be given any additional changes to improve it', are rather silly mindsets, if you ask me, and the first of which being more or less what causes the asinine amounts of drama in this fanbase as a whole :3

 

Swoop and I being out of a job for changing the banner for the old theme is not going to happen as far as I'm aware, and as Lavo has already demonstrated in here by gracing us with his sun-deprived presence, feedback on potential improvements to this new theme are all taken seriously

 

Edit: As far as changing the Daring banner goes, we're waiting on someone to make some edits to one of the ones they submitted.

 

Hint: No, Kyoshi, those submissions weren't pointless

My apologies for my negativity. I was having a very bad moment at the time and I always blame myself which leads to stuff like that. :

 

Still, on a more positive note. I have been using the new layout more today and it is starting to grow on me. I do feel an Equestria Daily vibe to it and I am unsure if that was the intent, but I love how tablet friendly it is. With the old one it always felt like a hassle to use on any device that was not a PC or PC related. Plus there is the convenience of the sticky bar, which I give you props for allowing us to disable that. I actually might find it rather useful but that option is fantastic for those who do not see it the same way.

 

I still need to check it out more, but it is starting to really appeal to me. My bad moment was blocking me from even considering it, that is how stupid my depression can make me. So. Again, I apologize for that. Really, with this bigger format, I look forward to trying out new banners in the future. At first I was really confused on what was needed but now I think I have gotten it down.

the new layout looks a lot more formal than it did before Even though some people seem to be butt-hurt that it's changed, I really don't care, I've only been here for a few weeks, so It doesn't affect me. But GG to the rest of you, I'm sure you'll survive, besides, it looks way cooler now anyway...maybe around...20% :3

I much prefer this layout compared to the other one, it makes it a lot easier for me to navigate all the pages. The only problem I seem to have is when I am on my other device, I have to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to get back to the home page, instead of using the "mlp forums" button link that used to be at the bottom.

i've been here for a few months now, and in all honesty i think the older one was better.

but i'm sure that if you let me get used to this and check back with me in maybe a couple of weeks my opinion would be way diffrent.

I've only been a member for a couple of months but I much prefer this layout to the old. I like the way the toolbar follows you down and how nicely designed it looks. I don't know, it just looks a lot sleeker and nicer.

Yeah I like the layout but it's a lil hard to get used to on mobile, sometimes accudentaly clicking on the toolbar cause it gets in the way and a few times i had to reload cause it wouldnt dock back up top and I couldnt get to my notification, but all in all I like it

thats actually the one thing I don't like about the new layout but maybe it's because i'm not used to it. overall the banner now looks nice. the dull boring MLP Forum one wasn't very eye catching.
