Pavisa

 

Pavisa grins as she gets up, tossing the empty coffee cup back to Blast while addressing Rakon.  "Looks like that coffee was my breakfast."  She goes about making sure she has all of her supplies, which doesn't take her long.  Tugging her saddlebags securely on over her armor, she sits back to wait patiently until everypony is ready to head out.  It didn't look like that would be far off.

Tactic Wind

 

"I suppose I will have to see."   Unfortunate, but likely for the best.  It would give him a chance to evaluate the party without a biased opinion on his mind.  The camp was close, judging by the sounds of ponies coming from up ahead.  As they came into sight, Tactic slowed down just a little so as to let Redwave enter the camp first.  This gave him an opportunity to quickly look over the visible ponies before they would notice him.  Curious.  I wonder if there may be a rook or bishop hidden amongst these pawns after all.

Silver Heart opened her eyes and turned her head to look at the rest of the camp. Everyone was tearing down their camp and getting ready to continue to the falls. Luckily she had never gotten a chance to set up her tent. The medic looked at her bandages and sighed, it seemed like she couldn't keep putting this off.

 

Silver Heart rolled into her stomach avoiding the shoulder that had been injured. Not wanting to risk injuring her shoulder any further she used some cloth from her bags to fears a name shift sling. After preparing the rest of her equipment she hobbled over to join the others.

"I hope the coffee is enough breakfast for you." Rakon said.  he looks around at the activity around them.  "Looks like folks are getting ready to leave camp.  Do you need to do much to get ready to leave?  I should go and ask Sand if she has much to do to get ready.  Do you know her?" He asked as he looked over to where Sand was.  He should go to see if she needed any help in getting ready to head out.

As Sand was heading back to join the group, she noticed a plant she might need. "I've seen this before... But where?" She wondered out loud. She grabbed it and quickly put it in her bag. "Don't need anypony seeing that, they're going to question it and I won't be able to answer yet." She added. She needed more time to figure out what it was before she could either use it to her advantage or just explain it to the others.

Blast laughed a little as he finished his coffee.

"I don't expect there to be booze at the falls, Crimson. Unless there's a part of the falls that's a complete whiskey waterfall." He joked. He then packed up his tent and sleeping bag, ready to continue with his adventure.

Emerging into the clearing to see the group in the process of packing: Redwave hopped up onto a fallen log and cleared his throat loudly.

 

"Everypony listen up!" He called out in good humor. "I have two things of note: firstly, the falls are visible ahead from the crest of this hill. We will be leaving this accursed forest shortly. Past there we will have rough terrain to compete with but at least will have a greater field of vision to watch for attack."

 

He motioned behind him.

 

"Secondly, another has joined us on our journey. Tactic here will be assessing and advising on our... well, what do you suspect he will assist with, named as he is?"

Saronyx gave a small bow to the siblings, "It is my pleasure to meet the both of you, Willow, Orion Starsinger."

 

He stands back to his full height, taking in every detail about the two siblings that he could. The ethereal wings coming from Orion.... They led Saronyx to believe that this was the stallion who sought the Litany. He would have to choose his words very carefully.

 

Before his gaze lingered to long, Saronyx spoke up, "If you are not opposed to it sir, miss, may I is quite what it is the two of you are doing out here? You do not need to feel obligated to answer, if you do not wish to. I am merely curious."

Your group keeps coming after Orion, though.." Willow said pitifully for her brother. "Orion's been tired lately from an.. incident that happened a few weeks ago so he's having headaches. He's been trying his hardest to take care of me though.." Willow said, smiling at her brother.

"Go ahead, I'm already packed" she said towards Rakon as Redwave came back into the camp.  She directed her attention towards the captain, trying to stifle a yawn.  She was ready for the coffee to kick in.  A new member of the group?  Where?  She glanced around the area behind Redwave, but it wasn't until the pegasus spoke up that she actually registered he was there.  He was so...  So bland, that she had glanced right over him!

"I suppose that is my cue."  Tactic stepped forwards into the campsite as Redwave introduced him, glancing at the gathered ponies (and dragon) with an expression that was somewhere between analytical and completely bored.  "I...  Look forward to getting to know all of you.  Hopefully very well."  He cleared his throat and raised his voice - not with any kind of emotion, but simply so as to be heard better.  "I would ask a chance to speak with as many of you as possible between here and the falls.  It is easier to plan a strategy when the player knows how the pieces move."  Like that, he stepped backwards a step, his introduction finished.

Blast rolled his eyes. 
"I guess he'll be helping with our tactics?" Blast said with a small laugh. "No, but seriously, it's nice to meet you, Tactic. I'm sure you'll be a good edition to our little team." He said, raising his hoof up and giving a sort of 'thumbs-up' motion.

He then put his saddlebags on and looked towards the falls. Confidence and determination immediately filled his eyes. He could only imagine the perils he might encounter in the falls.

The Visionary nodded, "It is an admirable trait for him to wish to protect you. I would do the same for my own sisters, had I any."

 

Still speaking in his amiable tone, Saronyx tilts his head in a random direction, "I apologize for the actions of my companions. Some of them seem to be of the rather... 'Gung ho', mindset. I am sure they are frightened by the power you have received, Orion Starsinger. Many fear the power of such an item. I can only ask that you are careful in your dealings," he turns his gaze from the stallion to Willow, "And that you do not let your search cloud you judgement for your family. I know all to well what happens when one you look up to, becomes to hungry for power."

 

Saronyx may have spoken out of his normal way, but there was something specific about this stallion that made him feel it was necessary to speak in such a way. May the Empress damn him if he was to let another fall prey to hunger for power. He holds out one hoof, "I promise that I will do all within my power to keep my compatriots from attempting to harm you, or by chance your sister. I just hope that you understand why it is that they do this." - "And that I will gaze upon your past to learn exactly why you are after the Litany.." He added mentally.

"As long as you are sure." Rakon said.  "I wonder if Sand is a bit shy." He said before he looked over to where Sand was then back to the pony he was speaking to.  "I do hope we can speak more in the future." He said before he turned to where Sand was and headed over to where she was.  He paused as he saw and heard the new pony speaking before continuing the short distance to where Sand was.

"You doing ok?  I saw you were sleeping still so thought you needed the rest so didn't wake you up.  Do you need any help getting ready to head out?" he asked her.  "you should try talking to some of the other ponies.  The one I talked to," he said looking over to the one he had been talking to, "Seems very nice." he said.  "New pony, wonder what he's like."

"I'm fine, I've already got everything ready." Sand answered. She didn't comment on the part about the other pony, seeing as she wasn't really going to talk to anypony yet. They were going to have to prove that it was safe for her to talk to them if she was actually going to try.

Orion looked uneasily at the strange pony: he still wasn't certain what to make of him but...

 

Glancing back at his sister and thinking about how miserable she had seemed, he managed to force himself to act against his better judgment: still on edge and poised to attack - this was still the pony traveling with the other barbarians, and rationalizing their violence as Orion's fault at that - he tentatively extended a hoof. 

 

Anything that spared Willow from further violence, at least until he could be certain that he wouldn't accidentally unleash a stray spell in her direction.

 

"Go back - tell them to leave. The Litany - it's mine, I can use it to... to fix everything!"

 

He couldn't remember exactly what 'everything' was... but that wasn't a concern: he had been having trouble remembering things for a little while now: it was probably because of the stress. Yes, the stress, and the pain. both of those could make a pony forgetful, couldn't they?

Redwave. and Kingfisher.

"Okay everypony, I do hope that you each have your affairs in order because it is time to move onward! Just ahead is a most delightful trail of razor sharp rocks and hidden pitfalls - and I intend to be at the falls by sundown!"

 

Even for Redwave, this was being optimistic: especially considering the wounded. Still, so long as his good spirits lasted, he figured that he might as well utilize them for moral.

"Splinterhoof Hills, Cap'n." Corrected Kingfisher. "Was lookin' over the maps las' night. Names a bit misleadin' - t'is a fairly flat trail by all accounts."

 

Turning to head back up the trail again, Red stopped. Turning back with a grimace.

 

"Brandy, Kingfisher! How could I start the day without? By the Sisters, tell me we have another bottle?" He called out. Kingfisher rolled her eyes and dropped the pack to the ground.

 

"Aye Cap'n." She said dutifully. "Never mind the hurry... Wont be a minute, it's right at the bottom..."

Pavisa & Tactic Wind

 

Alright, finally time to get going.  Pavisa started to walk towards the road, muttering to no one in particular "I'll take point again."  As she walked past the newest addition to the group, she nods at the tactician.  "If you want to talk with all of us, come on, I want to get my interview done before we get going too far."  

 

Tactic nodded at the pony in the guards uniform, moving to trot along next to her.  "Very well.  This should not take long.  I simply wish to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each member of the group."  Together the two of them made their way to the road, to try and get this interview done as quickly as possible.

 

((Not going to type out an entire long, drawn out conversation between the two characters that I'm controlling, just seems a little weird for a roleplay to me.  So...  Consider Pavisa's talk with Tactic done already by this post, lol))

"Great, looks like we're going to be going very soon." Rakon said looking at Sand, "maybe we'll get a chance to talk to some other ponies later when we make camp, or while we're traveling." Sand didn't believe that any of the ponies were nice. Maybe there was one, but other than that she couldn't think of anypony. It could've just been because of the first pony she talked to, who thought she was better than everypony else, but she still didn't trust anypony anymore.

Despite Orion's demands, Saronyx stood his ground, even going so far as to take a slight step forward, "But what is 'everything'? What needs to be fixed, that you believe you may ever possess the power to do so?" He sighs slightly, "I have seen firsthand just what can become of one who seeks great power. I imagine part of your drive is from a desire to protect your sister? While the Litany may grant you the power to protect her for a time, what is to say that you will not end up being a threat to her, yourself?

 

"I am afraid to say, that I doubt much of what I have to say will sway the decisions of my companions, on whether to stay, or not. I've stated it before. They fear the Litany, and the powers it holds, and with good reason! No good will ever come from that book being read! So tell me, Orion. Are you willing to allow yourself to become the villain of the piece, to protect your sister? Or your ideals? Exactly, how far are you willing to go, for your gain?"

Blast packed up the last of his stuff and began walking to the falls with the others. This new stallion seemed like a good enough fellow. He decided to talk to him first before any other member could take the chance.

"So, you're good with planning out tactics, right?" He assumed. "Well, I guess we'll get me out of the way first. I'm fast, I'm a skilled fighter, and I can get myself out of tight situations quickly." He said, trying to give him some food for thought.

He said.  He looked around a bit.  "I do hope everyone gets along better than they have before.  Or it'll be hard to keep the group together otherwise." Rakon said to Sand.  "have you tried talking to any of the ponies here?  Maybe you can at the next camp."

Pavisa sighed as she made her way to the front of the party, making her way out in front to the point guard position.  The route seemed fairly straightforward, and she assumed Kingfisher would come to correct her if a turn came up.  She was a little distracted by her conversation with the newest member of the group.  Something about the pegasus gave her the creeps...  Must just be the way he talks.  No emotion to him...

 

Tactic Wind

"Hmm.  Fast and strong, you say?"  Tactic was looking at Blast the way you may expect someone to inspect a new piece on a game board, rather than one pony looking at another.  The pegasus flew a short ways ahead of Blast in order to look at him while flying backwards, so he wouldn't have to worry about tripping by walking that way.  "This party seems to possess much in the ways of brawn and little in the way of intellect.  How well do you follow orders?  How well do you react under pressure?"  He was interested in learning as much of relevance as possible from these ponies he was to be working with, to better plan around each individual's abilities.

 

"I am interested as much in the weaknesses of each pony as their strengths."  He stated this very matter-of-factly.  He wasn't interested in offending anypony - everyone has weaknesses.  The gears in the pegasus' head were turning with each little intake of new information.

 

"A hypothetical situation," he began for a third topic of conversation.  "You have to make a choice between taking the Litany for yourself or saving the rest of your party members.  How do you react?"  Rather blunt for somepony he just met, but this wasn't a conversation about making friends.  This was data collection for the strategist, pure and simple.

Willow Starsinger

 

Orion was right--all the ponies from this group were onto the same thing: Orion may be too overpowered and would probably hurt her. She knew Orion would never hurt her; he's trying to do the opposite of that and he clearly never gets a break. Maybe they could find a cave or something so Orion could rest. Maybe she wouldn't wander off again.. 

 

She remained silent, though. She was afraid that she might anger this new pony.

Aphrodite

 

 Inspecting the new pony from a distance, Aphrodite kept quiet. She had nothing to say to or about him: she didn't know that him that well yet, but she intended to. He seemed to be smart though. She'll have to greet him later.. but for now, she just followed him and the rest of the group towards the falls. Maybe they'll actually find something there.

"Well, I would save my teammates, of course." Blast said in a happy tone. He wouldn't risk his group over some treasure. The safety of everypony always came first to him. "The Litany is pure evil, though. I wouldn't take it for myself. I'd probably give it to one of my friends, or somepony I can count on so it won't be used for evil purposes. If that fails, I'll take it with me and destroy it. I would still put my friends above treasure any day... especially a certain mare." He said, not really trying to change the subject. "Her brother is after this Litany, too. He wants to use it to protect his sister, but he's obviously too unstable to use it properly. Every time I try to reason with him, he just sees me as the enemy and tries to kill me. I'm worried he'll do the same to his sister eventually."

The words hit home: though the effect they had might well have not been what was intended. Orion clutched at hit head for a moment as he thought before responding. 
 
"Am I willing..." He started to say slowly - mind turning over the questions.
 
'What does he mean, a villain? What's villainous about wanting to stop wars, protect ponies?' He thought. No sooner had the thoughts formed than more words forced their way into his mind.
 
'The weak see power as evil... They always have and always will...'
  
Stunned at having answered himself - and so well - he flinched as if he had been physically struck - or at least as if he had been before his rise to power. Looking back at Willow slowly, he felt the thoughts invade his head once again: it was less violent this time - it felt unnatural , but less so.
 
'We can save her... Save them all from themselves... We just need the Litany and we can make this world safe...'
 
...
 
"I will do anything I have to, to make this world safe." He said blankly - eyes, wing and horn starting to glow more strongly. "I've already given up enough for it to give me the power I need. Don't get in my way."

Of course some of their group was going to go missing: that was a given. The Crystal pony though - he had seemed so eager not so long ago, where was he supposed to be?

 

Flicking the compass up in his hoof, Red muttered under his breath to it and watched the needle spin into position.

 

"One moment, if you please. Be ready to move on when I return!" He declared before following the directions from the object in his hoof.

"No way I'm going to cooperate with the likes of them." Sand said. "From what I've seen, they can barely get along with anypony, so I'm not going to try to talk to them. Simple." She continued. She really didn't want to talk to the other ponies, even if she had only seen the way a few of them acted.
