K, so mainly this is to do with the games, but there was also a trilogy of books that went with the storyline.

It's a bit of an obscure one, not many people say they've even heard of this one. The first one came out back in the early 90's, it's a point and click mystery/puzzle game series. I'd be so happy to find other people who have shared my obsession with this story.

Anyone play any of the Myst Series? Anyone read the books?

It's my personal favourite series of all time. The concept of it is complex and interesting, as well as amazingly awesome!

I've beaten the first three. I still need to play number 4 though.

I have number 5, End of Ages, but I can barely chip the puzzles in that one.

Also my new computer won't run games like my old one. angry.png

The original Myst captivated me in a way like nothing had before and nothing has since, except for sequels. Shut the door, turn off the lights, and put on some headphones. Getting tunnel vision and becoming completely absorbed in them is easy to do. Masterpieces, truly.

I've read the Book of Atrus and the Book of D'ni. They're still around here somewhere. Never heard of the third book. Now you've gotten me curious. I'll see if I can find a copy.

I remember playing Riven every single day when I was younger. I always loved the pleseosaurus's (pleseosaurusi?) at the begining, the giant fish, and the roller coaster thing. I wish the discs still worked sad.png

I have the reader, it's all three in one. I'm a slow reader myself, but I plowed through it in under a month.

The trilogy is in order of:

The book of Atrus

The book of Ti'Ana

The book of D'ni

The book of Ti'Ana goes into the past of Atrus's Grandmother, and how the city of D'ni fell into ruin. It's amazing.

I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one who knows these games. biggrin.png

I love Myst! Or used to anyway, haven't touched them in awhile. I only ever played the first three, and only ever beat the first one. Think I came close to beating Riven. My brother and I pined away at those puzzles when we were younger, good memories. smile.png Never read the books.

Here to break the combo a bit, I guess. I haven't played any of these games yet, but I've seen them patterned around my childhood for years now. Presto Studios is a name that stands out among the developers that I grew up with. I was introduced to this WONDERFUL company through the Journeyman Project series, namely Turbo/Pegasus Prime, and I've had my eye on Myst for a long time now. Maybe I'll get my hands on it eventually, I don't know yet. From what I hear, the gameplay is...similar, in some ways.

Out of all three of the first games, Riven is the most challenging I'd say. It's pretty complex, and it doesn't give a whole lot away. You really need to take notes when you find something that looks important.

I actually built Myst island in Minecraft creative mode too. Still haven't built all the ages yet though, but that's on my to do list.

I have wanted to play these games for quite a long time. I got the opportunity to when I found the original Myst on DS but it didn't pan out. The game is not made for such a small screen and reading books and stuff was a HUGE pain in the ass. Definitely a PC-centric series (even if the games were also on like PS1 and such)

Oh man, its been something like twenty years since I last played Myst. Saw it on Steam recently and tooled around some in it which led to the insane idea of building the island in Minecraft with some friends.

I did that actually. It took me a long time to finish, something like 5 or 6 days (not full days of course)

But I did everything, right down to the secret book vaults and activation switches where the puzzles would be to open them.

I really need to play Myst again. The first time I played it, I was an impatient kid, and it didn't take long for me to get aggravated and stop. I really need to beat it one day.

Anyone who hasn't read the books is missing out on something very special. I highly, highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys a good fiction. In an infinite universe, there are infinite possibilities. And with linking books, you merely have to press your creative mind to the page, and the worlds which you dream about become reachable.

I so badly wish this were reality, partly because then Equestria would be reachable. wub.png
