gaming Discontinuation of the Wii

I was never a fan of the Wii and only originally got it for SSB: Brawl, and Resident Evil: The Umberella Chronicles, the possibility of a brand new Starfox game, (I already had Twilight Princess for the Gamecube).

I HATED the stupid motion control gimmick because they were either oversensitive or non-responsive, which made it a huge pain to navigate the home menu before being able to use a REAL controller from our own Gamecube.

Plus, after a year there was a system update from Nintendo which caused it to stop reading Wii games on the day I wasted money on renting 'Punch-Out' so didn't even get to try it.

And then after a few months it stopped reading discs period-so I couldn't play Gamecube games anymore and was forced to play games I had previously downloaded for it.

So, I'm sorry to say that I don't feel much for a system that has given me so much crap...but, for what it's worth I am sorry for those of you who had good times with console and are taking the news pretty hard.

What's that? A Zelda game made sales increase? Well, I'm shocked.

It's almost as if Nintendo depends entirely too much on beating one or two franchises to death even to the point that they make HD versions of games that don't even need the update (Hi, Wind Waker! Yeah, you didn't age that damn badly.)...But naaah, that'd be crazy. *casual glance aside to endless stream of Super Mario Bros. rehashes and Zelda games*

I didn't know 15 games in a series meant endless.

That's what Nintendo fanboys want. Whenever Nintendo tries to do something new for a change, they're all like, "WHERE'S MY MARIO AND ZELDA?" I think working at Nintendo would be pretty damn stressful, trying to please all these fans that want totally different things.

Also, Wind Waker HD is a great revision. Definitely a console seller in my opinion.

I wouldn't knock Donkey Kong yet. Before DKC:R, the series was pretty dormant save for a few shoddy spin-offs, it wasn't until Retro gave the series some much needed life. And considering Retro has pretty much had a flawless track-record so far, Tropic Freeze looks like it'll do great.

"Random Crossover" - And so was Kingdom Hearts, and look how that turned out. Considering how much of a high regard both Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem, I think this one will turn out just as well

And finally, I've probably said this like 3 times here, how in Christ's name is any sane person tired of Pikmin? Legit question, it's been nearly a decade since the last game came out

He doesn't know much about Nintendo and their fares, obviously.

Anyway, I never gave my condolences.

Goodbye, old friend. I had a handful of good times with you, but it's time to put away the Wii-motes, and step into the future.

What problem with the Wii U? The problem that it takes a while to develop games and get them on the market?

*listlessly glances over at Wii games on shelf*

Eh, it's time had to come eventually. I'll admit the motion controls were absolutely atrocious not the best thing ever since they weren't very precise. And that just made the games that required a bit of precision that much more intolerable. (Lookin' at you Skyward Sword)

But I got my moneys worth for sure. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime... Just Brawl alone would of made it worth it.

Welp, take it away Mario.

I think the people that complain about Skyward Sword's controls are flailing about like morons, completely missing the sensor bar, because the controls worked beautifully for me. Maybe I'm the only patient Zelda player in the world? It'd make sense, because I never had a problem with Water Temple, either.

Hmm... well then maybe my Wii-mote was screwed up or something. Because I swear, I had the most steady hand I could muster with that game. But the precision underwater diving (the part where you need to collect notes or something to proceed with the story) was probably one of the hardest things I had to do in a video game. It very well might of just been the diving system itself was a little wonky, but with nothing else readily available to blame, blame the controller right? derpy_emoticon2.png

Well, to be fair, I had trouble with the underwater sections too. There was honestly no need for swimming to be controlled by motion. It was just wonky, and a bit frustrating. They did the same thing in Mario Galaxy, but even there, it wasn't as wibbly wobbly as in Skyward Sword.

Other than that, the 1-on-1 sword combat was probably the most satisfying way to kill moblins, and other baddies in a Zelda game.

Well see, now I don't feel like a complete idiot. I just kind of think the already aggravating idea of swimming (I've a phobia to water IRL) combined with the wonky underwater controls left a bad taste in my mouth. (Stupid I know)

I think everything up to that point was solid though, including the sword fighting. And I know what you mean by morons flailing the Wii-mote around. My friend was having immense trouble with the precision slashes on blocking baddies because he would literally swing that thing like he was trying to swat a fly.

I'm sorry if I offended you with my blunt terminology x3 I actually completely forgot about the underwater note gathering quest, because it was so frustrating, and unmemorable. Also, I hated how Hyrule was completely flooded in Wind Waker, so that section was tainted even more for me.

The sword fighting was perfect for me. Seriously. Not a single problem other than me just sucking at the beginning. The items that used motion gave me a few problems that resulted in me having to recenter my aim, but it honestly didn't bother me too much. Now, if the option to recenter your aim wasn't implemented, THEN there'd be a problem.

I bought mine so I could play Rhythm Heaven Fever and my House of the Dead Collection copy that I bought at the flea market for a few bucks. I've yet to buy anything else for it because most of the other popular titles I've played at a friend's house and didn't care enough about to buy a personal copy.

Although, I do still have a Wii with a broken disc drive that I have homebrewed, and play emulators on! That's its best feature! yay.png

Yeah, the Wii's motion controls really could have been better, but there was one thing I find absolutely phenomenal about the Wii remote- the pointer. Place your arm on your lap and move it around with your wrist and boom, the best aiming controls ever imo, plus it was used in all kinds of ways, if there was anything on the console that I feel the potential of was fully realized, it's the pointer.

Plus, I really like the Classic Controller Pro. Sure, it may be dongled to the Wii remote and have no rumble, but it feels real good in your hands and has an amazing d-pad. The only thing that could really be better about it are probably the shoulder buttons and of course the dongling thing, but it's a great controller that works well for the games that supported it like Smash Bros. Brawl and Xenoblade, and there were quite a lot more actually.

It's great that the Wii U still supports these accesories, but it seems that the only things on it using the pointer are Pikmin 3 and the CoD games. Kind of a shame if you ask me, if more shooters and the like come to it I hope they decide to try and implement it somehow.

Well the Wii has definitely had a damn good run. I guess it's finally time. Nintendo is awesome. They're pioneers, really. They don't have the greatest graphics or biggest consoles. What they've got going for them is the experience of playing a game. They're innovators. You had the Nintendo Gun, the Super Boy, the many controller expansions on the 64 with that one being the first 4 player console, the GameBoy Player and connecting your GBA as a controller. Then they do the motion remote for the Wii? And Sony and Microsoft saw their success with it and tried to emulate it. They're always coming up with new ways to interact with your games. That's why I'll always be a Nintendo fanboy.

But my feelings on Wii discontinuation? It's only business. If they weren't selling enough new consoles to cover the cost of making them plus a nice profit margin, then I understand. I already have a Wii so it's no big deal to me.

I refuse to let go until you're impressed.

It was the shittiest "console" ever! If you are wondering about the library of "games", take a look at these pics

attachicon.gifimage.jpg

Have I made myself clear?

It was just as big of a problem on the PS2 and GBA, and those consoles turned out fine, disregarding good games on a console because of shovelware is pretty damn ignorant, besides

Super Mario Galaxy 1&2

Legend of Zelda TP/SS

Metroid Prime 3

Sin and Punishment Star Successor(and the first game on the N64 VC)

Madworld

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom

Last Story

Xenoblade

Pandora's Tower

Zach and Wiki

House of the Dead Overkill

Red Steel 2

No More Heroes 1&2

Kirby Epic Yarn/Return to Dreamland

The Trauma Center games

Epic Mickey 1

Sonic Colors

De Blob

Resident Evil The Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles

Goldeneye

Boom Blox

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Super Paper Mario

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

Mario Kart Wii

Muramasa The Demon Blade

Monster Hunter Tri

The Conduit 1&2

Super Smash Bros

Klonoa

Tales of Symphonia: DotNW

and even ports like:

Resident Evil 4

Okami

Bully

House of the Dead 2&3 Return

and even the Wii versions of Call of Duty(usually Treyarch's)

and probably a bunch of other games I'm missing

I'm pretty sure all of these make up for all of the shovelware

Oh god, the stupidity.

Yes, we are aware that the Wii was cursed with dozens upon dozens of shitty shovelware games that no one really wants to play, but so is every console, really. It's not Nintendo's fault that other gaming companies are terrible at programming and making quality games, neither is it Microsoft or Sony's fault

The Wii has tons of great 1st, 2nd, and - believe it or not - 3rd party titles. If you're ever wondering about the library of games, take a look at these pictures.

It had a good run. I've only had the Wii for a couple years now, but it's still epic. Some really great games on there, and I haven't even played that many of them. Hopefully the Wii U will carry on the legacy...

Wii definitely was a bad console, though. Probably not from an economic standpoint, but quality wise, it was shitty. The graphics processor was not far off from Gamecube, shovelware/crapware up the wazoo, terrible controller design, motion sensor gimmick that only lasted for about 3 years before getting really old, crappy online, not much selection with multiplayer games, etc. Nintendo just got too greedy with this one. They put in so much time with an effort to create a "casual", "family friendly" system that they completely forgot to put quality into their gaming library.

Pretty much the only games that are worth buying the Wii for are Donkey Kong Country Returns, Super Mario Galaxy 2, No More Heroes, Mario Kart Wii, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

There are many more amazing games out there for the Wii. Just gotta go through GameStop's shelves with an open mind. If it's a first party Nintendo title, there's a good chance that it's expertly designed, and worth your money.

Other M? Kirby's Epic Yarn/Return to Dreamland? Super Smash Bros. Brawl? New Super Mario Bros. Wii?

Yeah, no. Their library was definitely not extensive enough.

There are MANY more games that are worth buying than that. Like I said, browse Gamestop's shelves with an open mind. You're bound to pick a great game eventually.

Just because it's on the Wii doesn't automatically make it bad.

Notice that MANY critically acclaimed games that have came out in the past generation (BioShock, Red Dead Redemption, Halo, Diablo III, Fallout, Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy XIII, etc.) did not have a port for the Wii. The reason: because Wii had a shitty processing engine and was only three times the power to that of the Gamecube. When a gaming company announces a new system, you bet your ass I want it so that the games can stun me with excitement all over again. Wii didn't. It was only filled with first-party disappointments and casual garbage. Even established franchises like Call of Duty and Soul Calibur couldn't make a solid port because the developers were confused on how to program shit with the motion control gimmick, which quickly came and went.

Again, from an economic standpoint, it was great with the soccer moms/casual crowd, but as for gaming, not a chance. PS3 and 360 definitely beat it.

Hey. I liked it. I had hours upon hours of fun with it, and know a good game or two.

You can go play your shooters on you blocks of hardware. I'm happy with my Nintendo.

See, this is exactly why I hate the Nintendo fanboys. They only assume that all PS3 and 360 is good for is FPS titles because of the extreme marketing campaign Call of Duty (which, by the way, I hate with a passion) and Halo has gotten. Seriously, there are more genres than shooters in their libraries. Persona 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Soul Calibur (the actual fighting ones), Lost Horizons, Gran Turismo, Skullgirls, Skyrim, Diablo III, Darkstalkers, etc., all popular franchises that don't have a Wii port and do not focus on shooting. So before you blindly go on a limb and tell me something completely false without actually playing the consoles themselves, maybe you should, uh, play the consoles.

I have played the consoles. Most of the stuff they have to offer bores me. It's just my view, and it's not going to change anytime soon.

Also, the Wii had plenty of critically acclaimed games as well. Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Skyward Sword, Smash Bros. Braw, Xenoblade, Metroid Prime 3, etc...

Justin Bieber has many accolades by critics. Does that mean his music's good? Absolutely not. Just because he's a cash cow doesn't make him anymore of a good artist than Rebecca Black.
