So what was a princess doing babysitting like a teen needing spending money?

Someone brought this up in another topic I made, and it's a good point. From what we've seen of princesses, they usually have a lot of duties. Celestia/Luna look after the day and night, along with protecting Canterlot and Celestia deals with all the paperwork and dealing with the Canterlot Elite. After getting married Cadence rules over the Crystal Empire with Shining Armor.

 

So given that she was a princess, why was Cadence a casual babysitter? Keep in mind that this is before Twilight has her cutie mark, and thus before she became Celestia's student, so the fact that Twilight was the one she was babysitting for and that Twilight WAS going to be important in the future was just coincidence. Doesn't a princess have anything better or more important to do?

I've always questioned this too. It is strange, but maybe it's more of a hobby, I mean Cadence does spread love right, so she must love little fillies and colts, so she spends her time babysitting or something. I don't know, just a thought.

Well, since at the time the Crystal Empire is still inhabitable, Cadence had to stay elsewhere, and during that time she got really, really bored and she saw Shining Armor trotting around with Twilight Sparkle. And then she quickly offered herself as a babysitter so she can get to know the stud better.

 

We have no idea how Cadence lived before the royal wedding, there is a chance that for a few years she had to support herself

That plot would be comedy gold in an anime.

A royal princess is baby sitting the protagonist baby sister so she can stalk him.
I would watch that anime.  Hell it might even exist already.

In the comic books Cadence becomes a Foal Sitter in the pony equivalent of Highschool. Shining Armor is actually the one stalking Cadence though in the comic book, and by coincidence Cadence takes the job of being Twilight Sparkles foal sitter.

I think she babysat and went on dates wasn't because she needed money or for looks or anything like that.

 

She probably wanted to see what it was like to be a normal teenage girl before having to deal with the tedious and soul-crushing aspects of her royal duties once she grew up.

 

After all, it can't be much fun dealing with people's problems all day and having to settle her subjects often trivial disputes.

Well we have no evidence of anything so any theory could be true or false. One YouTube analyst has a theory that Clover the Clever is actually Twilight Sparkle and she went back in time to help found Equestria. :-) I wouldn't put anything past Celestia.

The way it looks, Twilight is moving into some private room in the castle or something. Besides it would make sense to watch Twilight, while Celestia is having a buzzy day.

 

Still we don't know if Cadences is doing it for money? Maybe she was to young at that point to being helping out with big princess stuff, so she decide to help watch the youth of Canterlot and learn to be a kind care giver.

Cadence probably was babysitting to feel what it's like to take care of a filly, so I guess she wanted to do it to spread as much love as she could for Twilight. That's my theory anyway.

That is something I imagine Celestia would've had her handle when she was more grown up. I realize there have been very young royals in human history, but when you consider them, it's mostly been their subjects and officials who handles the hardships of running the country as opposed to the royal him/herself. Nvm that the Crystal Empire was still sealed and virtually nonexistent.

You know i normally don't mind animation errors.  It happens.  But that would be the gold standard of buck ups.  I can understand if a unicorn horn goes missing for no reason, okay it's a goof.

 

But i mean the easy fix would to give them another flash back and slap the cutie mark on.

My theory: Cadence as foal sitter to Twilight.

 

Celestia knew that the time of NM's escape was fast approaching.

And so She needed to prepare for the Elements to be found again.

 

Her first Hope was Sunset shimmer...and that didn't go well.

She sensed that there was something about Twilight Sparkle, and took measures to ensure that Twilight was saturated with love and kindness.(Cadence was a perfect fit)

 

Hoping that Twilight could do, what Sunset Shimmer could not.

 

When RD's sonic rainboom triggered the mane 6's cutiemarks to be revealed, Celestia MUST have felt the surge of magic..

At that point Celestia was certain that she made the right choice.

Well if you look into it Cadence's age really comes into question, and there is a topic about that already. Her cutie mark is the crystal heart, the treasure of the crystal empire. Also, she is called the crystal princess by them. This makes it appear that Cadence is a lot older than she looks, and was around when king sombra sealed away the crystal empire, leaving her without a kingdom to run.
