planning Which RP is good for beginners? (any can answer)

Hi, everypony! 

 

I read the general guide to RPing, but I see so many I can sign up for and such, it's a bit overwhelming.

 

If some kind ponies could suggest ones that have some sort of guidelines and aren't too advanced for a beginner roleplayer, I'd greatly appreciate it!

 

I've always wanted to Roleplay, but never have.

I'd be more than happy to help you find one...we'll need to single it down a bit though.

 

Just as a heads up Alicorn OC's aren't welcomed into RP's very often. So I'm not sure if Twila Starsong is already in the database but I thought I'd give you a friendly headsup.

Yeah, I made her a Unicorn in the character profile, even though my avatar is an Alicorn.  

 

Hmm...well, I must admit I don't know what slice of life or grimdark is...

 

Romance wouldn't be bad, nor would adventure. Not sure if I'd want straight up horror.

 

My profile gives my pony's personality--she's basically caring and friendly, but can hold her own if need be.

Well, I'd say that this is a good starter OC. Adendum though, OC's should not have past relationships with canon characters. For a beginner, I suggest a casual or SOL (Slice of life) RP. Grimdark can get complicated, and it's best to get experience first. Add me if you ever need advise.

It's like an RP based around a possible real life situation, usually ending by teaching a lesson about what the scenario had been. PS, Grimdark is a darker non-canon RP in which there is usually fights, and possibly death, it is a favored genre. Edited November 18, 2013 by Blake Diamante

Oh, I see. Well, I think I'd be good for a well-rounded RP with a general purpose--i.e. loose plot--rather than just a paragraph of someone saying something and then that's it (I saw a few when I was looking at some pages)

Slice of life is kind of like the show. They can be more mature and possibly even darker but it would be like having your OC live life in Ponyville.

 

Grimdark is like...well it has a wide definition. Sadly many Grimdark RP's aren't very good and they sometimes attract the wrong kind of player. (I hope no one takes that personally. Just different priorities in RPing.)

 

Now here are two RP's that I'm in that are good fun so far. 

 

The first is an adventure RP that is always accepting new players. One group of player are trying to stop an pony named Orion from "destroying the world" The other team are helping him.

Now, I know they had OCC threads, which meant Out of Character--so does that mean if I'm RPing in a thread I can't just use (( )) to say something after writing a passage, I have to go to the OCC thread? Or no? Such a noob...

So, you're thinking of joining the world of RPing, huh? Well, I think I'd suggest a one on one RP.. depending on what type of RP you're aiming for, of course.

Haha, grimdark can range from horror, to a bloody/violent RP, to many things but usually they have much violence.

Those are generally allowed in a RP post just as a heads up. Although if you're unsure its probably better to just post in the OOC thread.

 No it's fine. Um really there are no hard set rules for saying something OOC in a RP thread. It really depends on whoever is running the RP. How about you just post in the OOC and mention anyone you want to see it? It's honestly what you are supposed to do. Although always post in the OOC first if you want to join a RP. It's considered polite to get permission first.

They allow small quips or notes in the (( )), but for larger questions or explanations, it's suggested to use OOC. Sometimes, as you'll see, OOC's will get off topic and discuss other things.

It's been a whole since I rped, but I believe a beginner should choose something casual. Like Casual, slice of life, and humor. Anything else I believe might look too intimidating to a beginner. But! It really depends on how good you are or how interested you are. Each genre could vary in difficulty for a person. Perhaps your good in portraying morbid emotions or good in writing humor and cracking up puns.

Well, you just probably have to ask somepony to do it in a PM or something. That's what I do for one on one anyway! And my first RP was a one on one so I'd recommend it.
