That's a lock of hair, not a sideburn. I'm so used to seeing it that it isn't a problem for me, but I can see how some would see it as weird.

I don't think its a sideburn actually, just a curl or thing of hair, but technically it would have to be attached to her face to be a side burn, and well... being a pony she technically has hair, or fur, all over her face.

 

So i guess if you wanted to say she had sideburns you could... along with everythingelseburns ;p.

 

It does look a bit strange though looking at it, but it doesn't count as a sideburn, its just a bit of her mane.
