Hello,

I am 15 years old and i am getting my L plates within 2 months (So in February i can get them) And yes, it seems i am thinking about this too early but cars really do interest me! I am thinking about getting a nissian 180sx for my first car (They roughly range in 5-10k in price) because that car seems really cool and somewhat good for me.

What do you guys think?

ALSO I AM AUSTRALIAN!!! AND I WILL BE LEARNING IN MY MUM'S KIA RIO UNTIL I GET MY P PLATES

if you live in Europe like me an used Opel Corsa model c of 2006... reliable, easy to fix, lots of used parts, good looking, German, 1.3 multijet (easily tunable if you are in those things like me)... btw the best city car is always the Yaris... btw as a first car i would take the Opel adam...

First automobile? Ah yes. I much enjoy the vehicular devices as well.

I have had many vehicles in my short time and I could probably write out a mile long list of vehicles you should consider for that price range...

Anyways, depending on what you can locate near your place of residence, many options may be upon you. Such as the might Chevy Chevette.

But here's a vague list for you:

-1976-1987 Chevy Chevette

-Any freaking Chevy Pickup

-1972 Ford Pinto

-Chevrolet Caviler

-Ford Escort

-Ferd F-Teenthousand

-Chrysler Conquest

-Chevy Cobalt (Preferably a SS Turbocharged)

-Chevy S10 pickup

-Ford Ranger

-Dodge Omni

-Ford Focus

-AMC Gremlin

-AMC Pacer

-Subaru Legacy

-Subaru WRX

-Chevy Malibu, Impala, Monte Carlo

-Pontiac Fiero

-Pontiac Aztek

-If you like Hondas, then basically any Honda.

-Buick Grand National

-Ford Maverick

-Any station wagon

-Chevy Citation

-Nissan Sentra

Or go sporty and get a Holden HSV 427, a Holden HSV GTS, or any Holden VF Series. You could go big and grab a nice Holden HSV Maloo as well... Possibilities are indeed endless.

Depends what you are into. I'm more biased to American vehicles, but I kinda like a little bit of everything. My first vehicles were a 2008 Cadillac CTS Sedan, 2010 Chevrolet Silverado LS 4X4, 2006 Pontiac GTO 6.0, 1982 Chevrolet Silverado, & 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbo. I still have 3 of them, I can't get rid of em' I have issues.

Whatever it is man, get a manual transmission.

Don't let them fool ya into thinking that you should be looking for something with great gas mileage. As far as first cars go, all you need is something reliable.

Chevy S-10..... Good, reliable, semi-decent gas mileage.... and pretty darn sleek lookin.

I can attest to that. Mine's got 150k miles on it and it's still running strong. I've got the 4.3L V6 in mine, which is damn near indestructible. Only gets ~18 mpg, but it'll get you where you need to go every time.

This is, of course, entirely dependent on if you can actually find an S-10 wherever it is you live...

Bmw is my favourite car brand. My dream car is the BMW M3 E92

You would be so right mine as well only that the 328i is much cheaper and I am on a budget :P. I plan on getting that car later on I just like it a lot. Maybe in pearl white or sliver not sure yet.

I'm gonna sound like an old fart (which i am >.>) but the first car should always be something you can gain experience on, there is no point in buying a Ferrari if you don't even know how to drive one.

My rules for the first car can be as follow:

1. Popularity. (If its to popular a car its more likely to be stolen.)

2. For what you need a car. (I know sounds stupid but, this can make it or break it for you, do you need a car for only driving to point a to point b? or do you need it for other purposes, such as travel, or depending were you lived it may be better to buy a high profile vehicle rather than a lower one to prevent damages etc etc)

3. Long Term Investment. ( 1 of the reason's i tend to prefer older model vehicles its cause there are cheap to fix, parts are cheaper mechanics don't whine to much about it henceforth charge you less, and since this will be you're car more likely than none you'll need to fix it down the road sooner or later and if you don't have a good income a regular repair work can go anywhere from $300 to $5000 in some cases.)

I dunno about Australian Traffic laws, but if there anything similar to the USA then you need to think in the expenses after you buy the car, such as Insurance, Gas, Paperwork, monthly bills (Car Payments if bought from a dealership) saving money for possible fix and uppers, regular maintenance and so fort.

My first car was a 1980 Volare, a very, very ugly car but it was the car i had the most fun, i was 16 when i bought it of my own money, i believe it cost me around $500 and while i had fun driving it i had fun doing custom stuff to it as well, which in the long run teach me to appreciate the value of a car and not always go for what's cool but rather what i need, right now i own a 1989 chevy silverado, had it for 10 years now, while i have had some other cooler cars, such as a mustang gt500 and honda civic (tuner) i stick whit my pick up for the most part.

hope i not sound to naggy xD anyways gl on whatever car you buy ^^

Find a 1988-1993 Ford Festiva with a 5speed, or a Mazda 121 (Same Car as the Festiva).

These tiny cars get amazing gas mileage (40MPG easy) Don't know what that would be in litres. Too lazy to do the math.

They may not be the best looking car, but they are extremely easy to work on, and are extremely reliable, and extremely cheap. It is not unheard of for these cars engines to go over 300k miles, or hell I have heard of some going 400k, and when the engine does blow up they are cheap as hell to replace. (Seriously, I could buy a fully working engine for this car for $100)

If you don't want one, all I can say is this. "NEVER BUY SOMEONE ELSE'S TOY CAR!!!" They will have ragged that engine to hell. So stay away from popular sports cars if you can, unless you feel like learning how to repair the hard way.

I drive a Honda Prelude and I LOVE my car :)

She's got 180,000 miles on her. I think that's about 290,000 km.

They look amazing. Preludes handle well, too. If you need to make a sudden stop, they're good at that also. Four wheel drive? Well, from personal experience, they don't do well on muddy roads

You can get one in decent shape in America for around $4,000. I don't know how much that converts to in Australian dollars. Anyway, this is what a Prelude looks like

I wish my Prelude looked this good :D

"stay shift, fuck the automatic"

168465498949% agree with this right here! My God, automatic SUCKS!!! I grew up on stick shift. For me, I feel more attached to the car. Like I'm a part of it. There's no driving experience better than rowing through the gears of a manual gearbox. None.

Not only that, but manual gets better mileage. The config is less complicated and lighter. Better takeoffs (like you said) and better fuel economy.

Also, since there are so many people here in America who don't know how to drive stick, it makes your car a whole lot less likely to be stolen. People can't steal a car they don't know how to drive.

There's less of a demand for stick shift as well. Generally, the manual model will cost you less when you go buy a car since there's a much smaller group of people who want to drive manual.

Yeah, there's no comparison. Stick shift is better :)
