FINALLY GOT A POST IN.

 

Jeez. Reading through about 4 pages or so of text is looooooong. But that's punishment for me being away for a bit. I wanna say it was worth it, due to how my weekend ended up.

 

I also apologize if my post is a bit rushed and/or lacking. There's just too much for me to comment on and I'd have to spend a good deal of time trying to cover all the bases. So I could only penny pinch and speedrun through so much to catch myself up. Though since I've caught up to speed, I believe I can get back to having quality posts.

Me and Arylett are going to be controlling the snappers movements. At the moment we had planned that it had gone back underground to do some annoying snappy nonsense elsewhere. At the moment though I don't have a clue what it's going to be doing next, as Arylett is going to be doing something with it in her next post. I didn't even know she was gonna have it attempt to give Klopp a thrashing like that.

 

Don't worry, though. We'll make sure everyone get's their share of near-death experiences with the little big-ass bastard.

Before it wasn't the flu. Just some other generic cold virus. She's been getting sick lately cause of 2 reasons. First, she works at a pharmacy where lots of sick people come in. And second is because we live in Florida, all the northerners with diseases come down during the winter to avoid the cold and get us all sick.

 

And of course, since I live with her and all, she gives all her sickness to me. So I got the flu now too. D:

I'm back from being sick, but I'll have to say a few things here.

 

First off, I agree with Ampharos about having lost interest in this. Although it would be more accurate to say it was simply never too interesting for me from the start. Klopp has expressed the same reservations. The both of us tire of running this roleplay, particularly myself, as it seems to go along at such a slogging pace. And I don't mean the posting pace, I mean the story pace.

 

Every time something relevant happens, it must be orchestrated by either of us. This may be traditional roleplay, but for me, it is strangulating. I feel bored that only myself and Klopp make all the interesting things happen and the story progress. The rest of the posts here appear to honestly be reaction to whatever it was we made happen or some internal interaction that the characters are having amongst themselves. Don't get me wrong, character interaction and development are important to a story. But this isn't just some slice of life. This is an adventure story. Things must happen beyond that on a grander scale, and people cannot be afraid to try to make those things happen. We're mostly flexible about this. The only thing we enforce is leaving us to consistently control NPCs that we have created (like the Snapper) so that things don't get confusing and out of hand with people having different ideas about what is happening.

 

If things don't shape up, I'm afraid I'll have to stop this roleplay. I know in the first post, I say I'll try to keep it alive at any cost. And I will. But only if it is entertaining to not just those who participate, but also to us GMs.

With that little spiel done, I should hammer out a post in a little bit. Probably several hours from now. There are a few things I must do first though;

It was never clear to me that we were supposed to make stuff happen ourselves. I just went with whatever everyone else was doing. Since you guys are the GM's I was usually even frustrated that I had to wait for things to happen.

 

I am precisely the one to be able to do stuff like this. I am great at applying my own idea's into other peoples settings. However, I almost always miscalculate in how far I can go. Many times if I try to influence the course of the RP, I go all out so badly that I eventually end up either ruining the RP, or carrying it entirely. If you want me to take more intiative in the progression of this RP, I will not hesitate, but I might go to far, and don't get mad at me if I screw up :c

The best way to avoid that sort of situation is with simple communication. If you think something might be going to far, bring your suggestions up here in the OOC thread and we can discuss it. Unless you want something kept a little more secret from the other members for plot twistiness effects, in which case you can send one or both of us a PM about it, and we'll let you know if it's alright to go ahead with it. For the most part, unless you DO take over the RP completely, just about anything will be alright if you ask first. :3

 

Feel free to conspire with fellow RP members in private messages if you want to catch Arylett and I off guard. The both of us enjoy a good surprise on occasion. :3

I'll take this opportunity to let you know that I'm pretty lenient about which direction the story is moved in. Just because I have a plan, doesn't mean it has to be followed down to the letter. The fun of roleplaying is seeing how characters react to things. So feel free to take it as far as you like. provided you don't kill what is supposed to be an all-powerful villain in one shot.

 

 

Of course, that might've been too vague. I apologize for it not being clear enough. But I don't mean that everybody's SUPPOSED to do it. I just mean that things would move along a LOT better (and be more generally interesting) if a few people took more initiative. In my old RPs, there would be those who helped to move the story and those who simply interacted with others. It's fine to have both kinds, but to be almost completely devoid of the first kind makes a story stagnant. I find people are often too mired in traditional tabletop RPGs where the GM is God and only they can do anything at all whilst you're forced to react. It's a common problem I've seen, but it's just even larger for some reason in this roleplay. I define RPs as everybody telling a story together, not a storymaster controlling everything that you react to.

I'm in a similar boat as Scribblegroove, last RP I started making interesting things happen in our GM bailed and I ended up taking over a RP that I had no idea what to do with. It's become one of my favorite RP's that I've lead and I don't regret it but it does take up a ton of my time and I was kind of hoping for an RP where I can be more reactionary.

 

I'd be happy to help lead this one in interesting directions, but we have been stuck in a hospital waiting on a sick pony who is now removed from the RP for inactivity... Also no one in the group has any information on what we are supposed to be doing yet, we don't really have a direction to lead because we just arrived in this world and literally don't know what to do or where to go. We need to learn more about this world you and Klopp have created because it does seem really awesome and this story obviously has a lot of work and backstory to it.

 

I Hope that we can pick it up again and have a lot of fun with it.

Well, I haven't honestly made most of the world. The reason is because I want to leave stuff open for other people to fill in the gaps. Of course, I'll fill in any necessary gaps and contribute myself, answer any questions, make up shit as I go along, (Already doing that) but all I've done here is created a basic framework. It can be taken further than that by anyone's ideas. Everyone who wants to and can is encouraged to contribute, but you don't strictly HAVE to if you don't want to, nor do you have any responsibility as a GM should you decide to. Take it as far as you'd like, or as not far, conversely. I just want people to know that the option is there.

 

I'll make more directions, and I'll push as much as I can. I just don't want Klopp and I to be the only ones pushing. When I get back from school, I'll make a post to attempt to address these issues.

I have actually been trying to push things along since I have joined this RP. That is part of the reason I entered in like a bull in a china shop trying to stir things up. I actually considered making my character go foaming-at-the-mouth crazy at first, just to see what the doctors would do. I finally decided that that was out of character, but I digress. I now realize that I haven't really accomplished any pushing of the story line and have probably exacerbated the issue. I will keep this in mind as I write future posts.

Okay, this I didn't realize. I was trying to work within the confines of the setting already established, and was afraid to push its boundaries. I will definitely now expand on the framework and try to add my own little twists to it (without controlling it). I was also afraid of breaking away from the group but I now realize how much freedom we really have. I will definitely keep this in mind and try to run with it. As always, if I push the limits in any way please let me know and I will fix up my error as soon as possible.

 

I think it also important to keep in mind that we have only just met our first enemy, and we are still trying to figure out what we actually are and what our powers are. I definitely think the pace of the RP needs to be picked up, but from here it will only increase. I don't want any more talk about this RP potentially failing or getting dropped before we have given it more of a chance. After all, we are only at the beginning and I think this storyline has great potential.  

 

One quick question, is it okay to try and make our own encounters? For example would it be all right if I were to post something like 'in the thick of the night, he heard the enraged howls of what sounded like large wolves. They grew louder and sharper at an alarming rate. They were getting closer. Granite Wing prepared himself for what was to come, although he wasn't sure if they were hunting him, or something else.'

I really don't see why not. 

All righty, Klopp and I have discussed it, and we've decided that the Snapper is open to control for anyone. We just ask that you don't overdo it, and that you mainly pay attention to what the person who posted before you did with the Snapper to keep it as consistent as possible. We'll probably still be primarily in control of any major actions it takes, but you can feel free to make it do anything relevant to your character or other things and what not. This is the first step in allowing people more story influence.
