   Sensiquill stood at attention before the eyes of the relatively new prince.  "My opinion?"  The pony was taken aback by the question but quickly recovered.  "Sir, I've known the dark guy for even less time than you.  That being said though, I have taken the time to get to know him a little better."  The pony paused a second to allow his following words to gather momentum.  "Honestly sir,  I'd trust Paladin with my life.  He's sworn to the crystal kingdom just as I am, and we couldn't afford to have that sort of brotherhood broken in battle.  He may give me the creeps sometimes, but...  It's not him I'm worried about, Sir..."

Shining Armor

Shining was interested now. "You say he's not the one you're worried about? Why is that? I know he's sworn to the Crystal Empire, but he only is so on Luna's orders. I'm not arguing with you, by the way. I'm playing the devil's advocate."

 

Paladin

Boredom is a common enemy of soldiers. It's especially deadly to beings with free spirits like bat-ponies. Paladin found himself, thus. Very bored. After memorizing the layout of his room and flying around in it as fast as possible without using echolocation or his enhanced eye sight, he hung upside down, wrapping himself up in his wings, and fell asleep.

   "Well, Sir..."  Sensiquill was slightly fearful of what the captain's reactions might be. "It's Princess Cadence I'm worried about.  I've seen her majesty on occasion and she didn't seem like her usual self.  In fact, she almost seemed hateful."  The pony took a sharp breath, "I asked her if something was bothering her and she simply glared at me and said, 'You aren't paid to ask questions.'  I didn't know what to do.  She's usually so... Kind..."

Aaron had walked into the training room once more. The same set of eyes locking onto him. Though this time it was met with a few friendlier faces. Walking over to the main room, Aaron was met by Celestias Captain of the Guard. He approached Aaron, carrying a package on his back.

"Greetings Alien."
"Greetings to you as well."
"The Princess has crafted something for you. I'll say it is to your liking."
He levitated the package of his back to reveal a white bow staff with various runes on the shaft. And he could have sworn that there was a golden glow on it. Aaron reached for it and upon grasping the tool, he felt the energy surge within him.

"This tool is accustomed to your own biology. And Celestia is aware of your stance on death so she has enchanted with a defense enchantments. You'll find out what they are when you enter combat."

Aaron was transfixed on his gift from the princess. No one has ever done something like this for him. He would have to repay her later today.

I want to do my part to help with all the problems Equestria has, but I'm no good at politics... should I try and join the Ponyville guards? I would help defend us, should the split empire decide to take agressive tactics." Said Comet, extremely enthusiastic but scared about his idea.

Aaron began to train the rookies, much to the drill sergeants dismay. After a few minutes, Aaron and the drill sergeant split them in two team. Both would teach half to see who's methods were better. Aaron began to teach his rookies his ways of fighting. The methods of honor and to protect those around them. That they must not raise their weapon in anger. For those who do, have already lost.

 

All the while Celestia was in a meeting with the mayor to discuss the upcoming solar festival in celebration of Celestia's birthday. The troops weren't in high spirits so a festival should do the thing. She was determined to see her troops happy. Yet she was not. This war had taken a toal on her. Both physically and mentally. She needed one day to be happy and for once get away from this infernal war.

The train ride was surprisingly short for the green stallion, his nap being interrupted by the jerk of the train slowing. "Ngh..?" Corporate blinked his eyes open, his sight adjusting. He looked outside the train window and smiled. "The Crystal Empire...." he mused, grabbing his saddlebags and getting off the train.

"I suppose I could stay with you Nuclear, if it's ok with you. Say, I was thinking. "Well... I don't want you to get hurt. But if you're really sure about it. I'll support you all the way." Nuclear grinned at Comet. "Maybe I could join too." She playfully nudged him with a hoof. "You need someone to help protect you."

mirrorwing watched as the human trained the rookies, sighing he flew to where aaron was training and said "you want peace, yet you train soldiers, it will not be long before you are forced to fight unfortunatley, i wish your goal of peace were easily attainable but even i cant convince celestia, i want to talk to you later in private actually, human" as mirrowing flew to his cloud

Ocean Breeze sadly looked around her room, it was void of anything that could truly help her feel happy again. She sighs and packs her saddlebags, getting ready for the day. She leaves her house and locks the door behind her, "not that there's anything worth stealing in there" she thinks to herself and starts to slowly and sadly wander around the town.

Aaron looked to Mirrorwing. What did he want to talk about. He went back to training the guards. He may not have been a soldier, but they sure as hell were. After he finished training, Aaron went to go and meet with Mirrorwing.

"Okay man, whats up? What do you want to talk about.?"

The fog that had been spotted near Ponyville had now morphed itself into a mysterious evil being. He amplified the darkness in the Princesses' hearts. "Go ahead, try to bring them back now!" The foe said with a evil laugh as he headed towards Luna's Quarter.

Graceful Decent and Visionary Heart
Vision smiled as he saw the house. Walking up to the front door he turned to face Graceful, who stopped at the fence around the house.
"Are you alright?" Vision said unsure if she was ok. it has difficult enough to know if she was listening or not, simply do to the fact you could rely on her eyes.
"Yes. I am... I'm just not tired yet" she walked up to Vision and handed him the loaf of bread. "I'm going to walk around for a bit" she knew her brother would argue about, but before he could she lift her hoof to his face.
"I'll be close by" she turned and left. Vision wasn't happy, but he was tired.
"Fine you win" he said as he went inside and closed the door behind him. She wondered through town with nowhere in mind, -Just one last check around town, then I'll call it a night- she thought to herself

The chariot landed in Luna's castle. The guards disperesed as the chariot was put back inside. She sighed. 'You are dismissed. Please alert me of anything comes up.' Luna said tiredly. She flew up to her leek and went into her room. SE lay on her bed, exhausted and stressed.

A guard had reported some activity on the other side of Canterlot and Thunder was sprinting fast. But, he soon crashed in to a pony and fell hard on the ground. He got up and looked at the pony who he had crashed into. "Oh my! I am so sorry." Thunder stated running over to aid the pony.

Ocean was in a bit of a dazed shock, but she accepted the hoof up, "I-it's alright" she says in a very small and timid voice, a hint of sadness in her tone. She gets up and looks at the stallion who had knocked her over and then helped her up, "D..do you know what is happening around here? I sure don't and it's scaring me"

"Well, I hate to break it to ya, but Equestria has been divided. This is all that remains of what Equestria is: Canterlot. Celestia is not in her castle, and Cadence and Twilight are no longer friends; the world has just gone down. I can tell you one thing, Discord has noting to do with it. Celestia was in her courters, sorting through various paperwork on her bed. Suddenly her door flys open.

"This had better be good, Solar Spear. I'm a very busy mare."
"Your highness. There has been reports of a black cloud heading from ponyville to Lunas sector."

"Its probably my sister. Inform the guards. Thell them to inform me the second such a thing comes to our secto."

"Yes, Princess."

Luna was playing some form of trick. Well, little did she know, she had her own trick training her guards as she thought to herself.

The evil foe morphed itself back into it's fog form and aimed it's way towards Princess Luna herself, since she was the most vulnerable. "Now, the Nightmare shall return!" The evil foe said to itself as it went closer and closer to Luna, wanting to turn her back into Nightmare Moon.

 

(Now the hard part begins.)

Aaron left the training ground and was stopped by a courier. He held a package for him on his back. He brought it to Aaron and asked him to sign. It was a gift from Princess Celestia. It read as such.

 

Dear Aaron,

 

I write to you now to give you a sign of my gratitude for your help. Though you may not be a guard of a high rank, I have created a weapon for you to defend my subjects in the future. I have imbued it with powerful defensive magics, taking into your stance on killing. They are strictly defensive enchantments that will defend you and those you wish to protect. I trust you will treat it well.

 

Sincerely, Princess Celestia.

 

Aaron placed the note in his pocket and began to unwrap his gift. He looked at the gift with wide eyes. It was a white bow staff. It felt like bamboo, but so much stronger. Its white form seemed to glow in the sun. It almost looked like it was made of ivory. Placing it on his back he began to walk to return to Celestia. He wished to thank her for her generosity in person. It was the least he could do.

Luna trotted to her room. There, a letter awaited. There was reports of a strange fog on the horizon. The raid was a success. Armor was being updated. Everything was well, but Luna was being moved to a safe house in Baltimare. The transfer would take place the following afternoon.

 

Luna sighed and fell onto her bed, falling asleep soon after.

"Divided? That's terrible! But it does explain why I felt a massive loss of harmony, and a gain of darkness and disharmony, Is there any way possible for me to help? I can fight and defend myself, I have a friend in the guard, in fact he's a Vice Captain, he taught me everything he knows. oh, my name is Ocean Breeze by the way."

"We cannot fight. It will only makes matters worse." Thunder stated. Suddenly, an undercover guard galloped toward Thunder. "Thunder Dash! I believe we have a larger problem than before." The guard said bowing his head. "The princesses...are possessed " He said with his head lowered. "WHAT?!" Thunder exclaimed. "So that explains the division. Now there's an evil foe on the lose possessing our Princesses. That means we can't bring them back together unless there's bloodshed and worse...death." Thunder speculated.

Ocean's jaw drops, "P..possessed? Like Demonized or something?" he didn't quite know what to make of it, but she wanted to help, she wanted Equestria to be back to normal, she wanted to be happy again, "Is there anything I can do to help? anything at all?" She asks, still in shock

"Well, our goal is to keep Canterlot at peace. We must not let any evil in Canterlot, or Canterlot will be divided into smaller regions. We must do our very best in order to bring Equestria back together again. If there are any signs of the evil foe, we must be ready to fight. Guards are stationed at every exit and entrance to Canterlot, so nopony is able to leave or enter Canterlot, except undercover guards." Thunder explained.

"S..so is there anything I can do?" Ocean asks again, "I want to help keep the peace and bring Equestria back together again. I..This darkness is making me very sad, but not just sad, angry. I want to help in any way that I can. Whether it's support or something else, I'm willing to help"

"Well, you can help me by giving orders to guards who need us. All guards in Canterlot and now under my command. I can also grant you their command as well. They are ones that will keep us updated on the news of Equestria's split. Some even go undercover, and are allowed to spy on one of the four quarters." Thunder explained.
