Hey guys, I am a new fan of the show.  I am sure you are all aware of this but if not, I will just go over it again. The internet as a whole likes to make fun of the whole brony fandom by calling us autistic. What I am curious about is whether this criticism holds any real weight or not.

Now I am sure that just like everywhere else, at least some members of this forum are autistic. I have made a poll with 3 options, just pick the one that describes you. The more votes I get on this poll, the better would be my survey and therefore my calculation, so guys please help me and vote.

I do fully realize that calling someone autistic is childish and just offensive and stupid and the people who do it are really immature. I also believe that autism in itself is not a problem, in fact, a cousin of mine is slightly autistic and he is a great guy. I am doing this just because of my curiosity.

Again guys, any vote is appreciated and please be honest about it.

No, I am not autistic. It's just people trolling us, bro. Let it be. They're just trying to piss us off by throwing 3rd grade level insults our way.

It's just the haters begging for attention. Think of it like this, imagine a person feeding a hungry crowd of people and the person is the fandom, the hungry crowd of people are the haters and trolls who just beg for a response. I say ignore the people who make fun of autism and autistic people.

Oh, and I'm not autistic.

Well, to be fair, a lot of the hardcore Bronies featured in mockumentaries, usually the ones at the cons, could easily me misconstrued as having some mental deficiency. Matter of fact, in my AP Psychology course, we watched the MLP documentary and had to observe, identify, and suggest possible sources for the various psychological and personality disorders we observed in the people from the documentary. To be fair, this fandom does have a far higher proportion of mental health issues than the general populace, because the fandom appeals to outcasts.

To answer, however, no, I have no mental shortcomings/diseases/disorders, and am 100% healthy and typical.

I'm autistic, but I'm pretty sure people say that kind of thing to troll and stuff because it's used as a general insult by some, they think they're being clever but they ain't.

I'd wager some of them probably don't even know what autism is.

I haven't been name called "autistic" since probably public school, that is a looong looooong time ago. Only once in high school was I called a "cool retard", but even that I took as an insult, my prideful nature does not cut any slack in such matters.

Yes, I  am autistic in fact.

Oddly enough, I don't think I've ever been called as such by someone else for being a Brony...

Regardless, this label/stereotype greatly annoys me and those who use them are not worth the time or effort to be argued with because that's exactly what they want to get under our skin.

Hey, thanks for the comments and votes guys.

The people you usually see in the youtube videos are kinda weird. I think that is the whole origin of this slang. And yes guys, I know they are haters but this whole thing is interesting.

Keep the votes coming guys!

I myself am not autistic, nor have I ever been called autistic (Usually it's CREATIVE things like "Gay" and "Fag") But all those things are childish. People are mean to ideas they are afraid of and do not understand. Us bronies are growing and more and more people are joining us. Pretty soon a haters' opinion will mean less than approximately dick.

Strive on, my friends. We are far from done and our numbers continue to flourish.

It just goes to show how powerless hate is.

Hmm... just sounds like another insult when people start calling us retarded or autistic, its cruel. But no I'm NOT autistic, I am ADD sometimes lol, but someone please...

name me ONE person who is perfect, other then a deity, or normal. You won't, because there's no such thing, we all have our little quirks, its what makes us interesting!

I'm just a silly little alicorn, trying to get by in the fandom ^^

I'm not autistic. I don't know why people feel the need to insult bronies all the time. Also, so what if a brony is autistic? Who cares? We're all here for the ponies, autistic or not. Anybody who calls others autistic as an insult is just sad. Its like saying "that's gay/retarded". Why can't people just be nice?

Autistic fellow here. Technically, I have Asperger's Syndrome, which, from what I can tell, is a more mild form, but it's essentially the same.

And yes, hatred towards me and people like me is infuriating and stupid.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

It's honestly beyond my belief that people are just that much of an asshole to think of autism as an insult. It's not like it's something we can throw out the window and bury in the ground. As someone with Aspergers, I find it really upsetting how we have to fall victim to something like this, whether it even has any effect on you or not.

I'm not autistic.

But I have witnessed haters call others autistic, I think it's stupid how haters insult people over something they never chose to happen.

I've never been called autistic. Especially not for being a brony. Maybe because I'm in my 20's, and at that age, nobody gives a shit?

I've occasionally wondered about myself, but I'm not autistic.

@, First, I wouldn't put too much stock into that image. It seems like broad generalizations. Second, there are some things that overlap with other certain traits. Someone with an insensitivity to pain may have CIPA. Someone with an insistence on sameness may have OCD (legitimately.) Or it doesn't even have to be an actual disorder. Shy people may struggle making eye contact or interacting with others. I noticed that I fall under a lot of the things represented in that image, but I think most, if not all of them are related to the fact that I'm an introvert. Third, even if this image does have any merit, 3/16 isn't a very high number. I had 6/16 definitely, with a possibility of 4 more that I'm uncertain about (possible total up to 10/16.) Even with that high a number, though, I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic. I think there are probably better ways to assess whether or not you're autistic than judging based on an image like that.

I'm not autistic, but I'm sure there are a few in the fandom who are. So what if somebody has autism? My cousin has autism and she is pretty smart. By saying we have autism, they are saying we aren't good at communicating with others. By saying we all have disorders, it makes them look like trashy piles of crap. Maybe THEY are the ones the disorders! CMS! Close-Minded Syndrome!

I'm not autistic. I don't know why some people think it's right to use the term 'autistic' loosely. I see it all the time in MLP video comments.
