Any advice for new fan-fic writers?

I have recently been inspired to create a fan-fic.  I started a topic here http://mlpforums.com/topic/86984-i-need-your-opinion/ asking for advice and ideas for a fan-fic story.  But is there any experienced mlp fan-fic writers or enthusiasts, or writers in general than can give me advice for writing?  Also any ideas I can incorporate into my fan-fic?

Don't worry about the readers too much, write what YOU want, but make sure things are well developed and that you use proper grammar. People will pick your work apart for very minor grammar errors. Have a reason for everything, each behavior that you give each character, and actually give us some backstory. The biggest thing that authors seem to forget is that you should show rather than tell. Don't write "Rainbow Dash walked through the flowers", actually describe it, what the experience is like, what she's smelling, how that makes her feel, etc.

i would say that if your writing dialogue or thoughts for a character write it in your head or just say it out loud pretend that you yourself are having the conversation and type what you said and thought if your focusing on one character if your focusing on two try and do the same but for both and experiment find out what your better at writing and how you write

The only advice I can give you is to not use the words "lavender mare" or "cyan pegasus".

...why? what's wrong with it?

As for advice, try to be descriptive. Instead of "soft clouds", try something like "refreshing, relaxing, rejuvenating clouds". You don't have to use alliteration like I just did. XD

Try to come up with something that will really capture the reader's attention and make them want to come back to read it later. Something that will make them want to visualize the story in their head. I would advise you to read a story called Aurora on FimFiction and maybe get some inspiration from that.
