I think this topic should be banned from the MLP Forums for the simple fact it's been asked a million times.

Anyway, my answer is all the same.

People don't like bronies because a LOT of bronies are not good people. And, unfortunately, it's always the bad people who represent a fandom because they are the loudest/most controversial so they are sought out more.

If you deny that there is darkness and evil within your own fandom, you are ignorant and foolish...

Agreed with everything above (except for the fact that everyone knows AJ is best pony), this topic gets brought up almost as often as "why do people love/hate *name of pony* so much" topics and should be banned for being easily searchable.

A very good and civil debate just took place recently, and I will refer you to that topic rather than repost my thoughts here.

idk why, i havent told any of my friends except one (he just turned into a brony) and hes extremely open about it at school and no1 gives him crap for it. but i feel people would think im the crazy one if i came out and said im a brony. i feel like it has to do with status and im in no way very popular, but my friend is. im a shy person irl. fluttershy <3

it reminds me of michael and ray from roosterteeth, nobody gives them shit for being bronies but god forbid someone who isnt well known or popular is one.

Because people don't understand how a boy can like something meant for girls.

And when people don't understand something, they hate it.

Well everything not in the "social norm" has at least some kind of bad omen to go along with it paired by the general public.

MLP is just REEAALLYYY easy to pick on since it is an extreme oddity. Men and older boys liking a girls show? I would've never believed it until I saw it... and became part of it.

Finally, its really hard to dig deep and understand why people might like the show. Especially around peers, many keep a closed mind and stick to it.

Something else few people consider is how the internet is in fact changing our awareness and culture. Naturally, it's BECAUSE of the internet that most of us have access to information that many people are not accustomed to. Many people I know don't actually know how or use the internet at all. It's almost like a completely foreign land or idea. The net is almost like a second nature to a lot of people let alone much of the fandom. Still, the magic of thousands of bronies gathering on the net and watching an episode together is almost entirely lost on a lot of people. It's like knowing about a band but never going to their concerts and all your direction and information about it is so limited what else can you do except form an uneducation opinion whether is was positive or not. It's also important to mention that many people simply would hear something instead of finding out on their own and closed minded behavior kicks in. We're in a technology kind of world now where things are possible that have never been possible before. Many that have lived in a time period without all of this technology so I also kinda consider it old age thinking and somewhat refusal to accept that the world is going to move forward and change when some isn't.

Well for one thing it's because it's assumed they're all sexual, mean, and think they can shove the show down others throats. Unfortunately it's sometimes true that people act that way but a lot of the time they're wrong. You really just have to stand up for yourself, not the fandom. It's you and the way you act as a brony that makes you your individual self, not what everyone else does.

Also, people harp on us because it veers far from the Modern day and everyone believing a man must be "manly." We're expected to be strong, deep voiced, tall, masculine men. And MLP apparently ruins that. So, stereotypes, basically. Personally this part bugs me the least solely because it's just people saying we're girls and they have no respect for what people like.

Because it spits in the face of the ridiculous arbitrary social scrips which people are forced to follow or else. Men are supposed to cold machines who are only capable of expressing rage, they are not supposed to be sensitive or like cute things. Before I heard of bronies I seriously thought we were although not completely passed this at least a bit further along but I guess we have more work to do than I thought. And because of this people feel threatened by it and lash out by jumping to ridiculous conclusions based on their own insecurities about masculinity, sexuality or both.

We're expected to be strong, deep voiced, tall, masculine men. And MLP apparently ruins that.

Which makes some of the reactions when I wear my Applejack or Twilight shirts hilarious because people don't expect a 6 foot tall 308 pound man to wear a shirt with ponies on it.

It's a hard pill to swallow, but it really is because people hate things they do not understand.

If you mention that you watched the likes of Powerpuff Girls or Sailor Moon as a kid, that is sort of tolerated (at least, in our age groups) because hey, everyone watched cartoon network and toonami after school. So you get brownie points for nostalgia.

But My Little Pony is new. And we are grown now. And people think we should grow up and stop liking children's shows. It doesn't help that the propaganda machine did to us what they did to Furries and made it popular opinion that all Bronies are creepy cloppers, just like everyone assumes Furries are Fursuiters.

What they don't understand is that unless they watch My Little Pony themselves, they can't see that this show is the REAL DEAL. In a world where there is so much hate and intolerance, My Little Pony has SO MANY life lessons about friendship and being yourself that most of us have lost in the shuffle of adulthood.

That's another problem. My Little Pony allows us to express creativity, individuality and regain some of our innocence lost from becoming apart of the soulless corporate machine.

And there are a lot of people that don't appreciate you breaking away from social norms and what's expected of you as a person..

The only way to fight this is to (ironically) be like what a good Christian should be. Or to use a Black History Month example, be like Martin Luther or Jackie Robinson. Do not fight back with anger and resentment. Continue to espouse the virtues of love and kindness that My Little Pony allowed us to rediscover in the first place. Never allow the systematic oppression to bring you down.

Continue being the best you can be. Give free hugs. Volunteer to help your local community. Soften the minds of hate with our hearts of courage, and God Bless you every step of the way.

Lol at people saying ita because its out of norm. Its not because of that. People are assuming ALL anti bronies are the same. But some actually have Reasons to why they hate us.

You're gonna have to be more specific about what reasons there are for people to hate Bronies.

If a Brony has done something to an individual, than they need to have a gripe with the individual, not the group they associate with. Otherwise that's the equivalent of thinking all black people are thugs because you got mugged by one.

some guy hates bronies because he used to be in the fandom and he left because he joked about Luna in a brony video and got a lot of replies from bronies *Scolding* him for that comment. He even told me that he only hates "Rabid" bronies

There are two answers to this question. A short and a long. You my brother/sister in hoof shall get both!

The Short:

MLP has been around a long time, alot longer then the 3 years FIM has run. And in that time it has gained a reputation similar to Barbie in the toy world. Most people only know the name from the Toy world and thus relate the idea of a Brony (ie a male of depending age) playing with a childs toy, especially a girls and eye roll and think them a pervert or otherwise. They are not familar with FIM let alone the other 3 series and films, they only know the toys.

The Long:

:Hoof crack:

It has been mentioned in this thread already, MLPFIM is very high profile. Anything high profile will bring attention, negative or positive. Relate it to another very popular sensation curently, World of warcraft. WoW has a fanbase in the millions and the term "wow" is known all through the gaming world and outside it. It is a house hold name at this point. It has a viral community that has become jaded over the years and are flat out cruel and almost violent to each other, let alone anyone else who trys to enter its community. It has a bad reputation created by its community, not so much by its creators or its content. MLP relates to this oddity on the reverse. MLP has a bad voodoo around it for those unfamilar and those who hear it spoken, such as "yo did you catch the new episode on saturday, freaking Rainbow Dash was sick!" or "omg your a Brony me too!". When these phrases are spoken, (or some form similar) many who are not of the fandom scroll into there minds what my little pony is. They come up with alot of pink, toy horses and a theme song they hear coming from there younger (or older) siblings, children, friends rooms. They then turn to see you and fellow Bronys speaking eagerly and with mutual joy in something they where raised to not enjoy. Boys where raised to play with toy guns and army guys and girls with Barbie and pink things. Mostly you will be on the other end of a Male or sometimes a Female who is a traditionalist and will lash out at you, trying too garner the stolen scene attention for themselves. Hate and anger is more ear catching then laughing and joy, they really have no reason to hate you, or your interest its just that your a part of something they are not. While WoW's community is what causes people to groan or eye roll at its mention, MLPs community is innocent. It is almost 25 years of brightly colored, combing hair, ponies sitting on the shelves int he girls toy asile at the store that have people going on guard when they see two men, teens, or younger males, eagerly talking about or quoting the show. They can only picture something "wrong" with this. Let me set you a picture that is easier to understand. You and a friend play tic-tac-toe. You draw the board and make your mark, having chossen the X. Your friend makes his mark, but instead of the O he makes a big V. You stare at this then blink. Part of your brain says "Meh, thats ok its not an X I get it, but weird its not an O, whatever" the other part of your brain freaks and screams "OMG WTF HE IS DOING IT WRONG!!".

In a world that is run and ruled more now then ever by information, the internet, digital numbers meaning more then spoken words, achievements, "likes" and anything that really has no place outside the personal ego, something that grinds so hard against the norm, or accepted. IE a grown man watching a show for little girls, is like a V in a game of Xs and Os, it strikes us as wrong.

However, there is hope and on your part as a Brony, a great responsibility.

You could ignore the hater, and cower or you could yell something rude back, OR you could turn to them and ask them, "why". You would be shocked at how many do not have an answer past "cause its for kids dude". Allow me to place a personal example. Now many think that the love of MLP makes a Brony a "less of a man" or to some even would use the word "gay". At my work I am great friends with a homosexual man and he and I get along very well. We share an interest in film and often joke about bad movies. However it had slipped my mind that he was not aware of me being a Brony. A Pegasister also works at our office, she and I often spend lunch hours quoteing the show and laughing about fics we read or art we have seen, and currently are planning to go to Bronycon 2014 together along wtih several other of our hoof-kin from the local area. He had wanderd up to us, (we are both grown and in our 30s) and listend in to the conversation. He was agast at finding out we both enjoyed something so silly. However he was quick to calm himself and listen to our explanations when he asked "dude, why?". At the end of the lunch hour he was enthralled by the passion in our voices as we spoke, he suddenly understood why i had a "Rarity" tattoo on my neck alongside her tri-diamon cutie mark on the other side. Up till then he had assumed it a nick name and something to do with gambling. Now the fact our friend was homosexual had no place in this other then to show that even those that are accusing or attacking and comparative to his sexual choice, can be shocked. He flat out said "wow I had no idea I just seen a bunch of online giffs of space marines shooting ponies and stuff like that and thought it was a joke."

Haters go hate, this scooters gonna scoot. Is often my comeback when less open indivuals comment on my Bronydom, they dont get it but meh. Be who you are, and know that in this community you WILL find the magic of friendship. Trust me, it IS real here.

People think it's wrong because MLP is a cartoon originally made for pre teen girls and they don't understand how it is possible for a teenager or adult to like it. The saying that people hate things they don't understand is true in this case. Of course, more than likely, they've never actually seen the show before and assume it's just a stereotypically girly cartoon like Barbie and Strawberry Shortcake.
