Hasbro's errors!

I don't know if any of you have seen this yet.

It's this 8-inch Nightmare Moon toy. I saw it at Toys-R-Us recently and kind of oohed, amazed that it was show-accurate (sort of). I pressed the button multiple times, and one of the sayings was something like "My star barrettes are fabulous!" And her voice wasn't even that of Nightmare Moon. As you can imagine, I was disappointed that Hasbro had done that. There were a couple reviews on Amazon that mentioned "the silly sayings"; the rest of the reviews said that the little girls they gave the toy to loved it.

Now, I can see how a little girl would love this toy, and wouldn't care about or mind the "silly sayings", but what about the rest of us? Hasbro seems to be mostly overlooking the majority of the MLP fandom. The best items are Funko's vinyl figures and the fan-created yet licensed stuff on welovefine.com - stuff that Hasbro itself doesn't even make.

Also, some of the things Hasbro makes are downright disturbing...

And Hasbro isn't the only one to make odd things...

Is there anything thou'rt disappointed about when it comes to Hasbro's inaccurate merch?

According to polling, the majority of their merchandise sales do go to little girls, those reviews should have been a clue to that. I don't see how they are overlooking the majority, but yeah, I would so buy that NMM doll if it wasn't for those sayings. Maybe once I get a proper display case for my figures, I still will. Not like it would get played with.........

If it plays some voice samples, it probably can be hacked to play the samples recorded from the show. Techy Bronies with skills in electronics: 1, 2, 3, go!  ;)

If I were a kid, I'd prefer a toy which doesn't have any pre-recorded voice samples. I'd rather lend them my own voice which is then limited only by my imagination (limits of which I haven't found yet).

But yeah, this is really stupid business strategy from Hasbro's side. If they made a show which only goal was to advertise their toys, these toys should be AT THE VERY LEAST show-accurate :P Is it too much to expect? -,-

It reminds me those Mango TV commercials where you see some cool gadget in your TV and buy it for too high a price, and then you get some cheap junk which doesn't even look like the one from TV :P

They accuse fans of infringing their trademarks, but the truth is they're ruining their own franchise themselves.

Stealing money from fan works they didn't even made themselves and making money on their creativity is another thing that pisses me off royally :[

Meh, I still bought that NMM even knowing what the sayings were. I listened to them all once, then took the batteries out like every other electronic toy I have displayed. She looked too cool to pass up. The only thing that bothers me is the moon placement/color. Mine is also horribly painted. Bright blue on the legs and the display side eye is smudged. I also love that the purple of her cutie mark is on both sides, but not the moon. If I had a local Toys R Us I would have exchanged it.

Meh, I could make a better Nightmare Moon from modeling clay for sure ;P so I really cannot understand why Hasbro had so much trouble with coming out with 100% show-accurate one. I could even make her horn flash with a blue LED diode & a bit of electronics. And most importantly, mine wouldn't speak bullcrap ;-J So I cannot imagine why should I want to buy something like this. Hasbro should do some better if they want my money.

BTW good that this one doesn't have rolling wheels sticking out her hooves, as that Princess Twilight one.

 (Twilicar? :D)

I just picked her up yesterday with the white talking Princess Celestia. They were on clearance for $15 each so I couldn't resist. I'm super picky about the paint on my ponies so I agonized over which of the three was worthy to come home with me, but I'm pretty pleased with her. I took her batteries out as well so I can flap her wings without hearing about how much she loves her barrettes or wants me to style her hair.  :P My only gripe is the big button in the middle of her cutie mark. Takes away from her awesomeness.  :(

They can do WAY better than this. No wonder why the fandom sells more quality pony merch more than Hasbro itself. It's like Hasbro's doing quantity over quality.

I'm sort of disappointed. Like why can't they use the real voices from the show for the toys, not like some random voice that sounds like Pinkie all the time. Quality is alright, sometimes they can be quite show accurate, but not the plushies.

I think the rest is all terrible but on the nightmare moon one, since there ARE younger fans of the show (like even toddlers like the show because its that epic!)they probably wouldn't want to scare then and get in trouble.

Maybe because the toy is actually there not like a episode where kids mostly know there in a tv ,but when they have the toy, they feel like it's real.

I've just imagined that this toy has a hidden pre-recorded voice of the actual Nightmare Moon saying "I'll kill you in your sleep, and the night will last FOREVER! MUAHAHAHAH!" which turns on every 1000 playbacks  ;) This would scare the shit out of those kids :D

Yea, Hasbro's offerings aren't all that great.....

I" mstaring at my brushables i have sitting under my computer monitor...and their manes are just a mess....Especially Rainbow Dash, she...she seemed to of gotten the short end of the stick in the mane and tail department...none of the colours are right.

The only quality Hasbo toy I have is my glow in the dark Zecora brushable (in the box) and my TY Dashie....but that's not directly put out by Hasbro, it's TY.

You would think they would at least try to make them show-accurate, considering their main intent is making money. But no, there's always something off about them. The most show accurate toys I've seen from Hasbro we're those tiny figurines, and even then, they gave Flutters Rainbow's mane. But maybe I'm just being overly critical and expecting too much from Hasbro.

Flutters has her own mould now for her blindbag self.and I want one. I don't have a single Blindbag of her yet, because all previous version were just a repainted Rainbow Dash.

It's nice to know she's got her own mold now. I might have to go grab one

G4, the quality just out of the package is probably the worst out of all the lines G1-G4 - I can buy new G4 ponies in package that the body and head are already discolored and don't match. I've seen really bad hair issues, mediocre playsets.

Just sayin, as far as the toy line goes, it's probably the worst and cheapest line in the MLP brand as a whole IMO.

  • 1 year later...

You gotta see this.  I just now searched Amazon to see if any new giant brushables were out.

The f*ck is this?  The f*ck am lookin' at right now?  I guess Rainbow and Twilight did some sort of Goku/Vegeta fusion.  But seriously, how does sh*t like this even happen?  Even if the people making the toys have never seen the show once, just google image search the friggin pony and you can get it 100% right.
