They're a prime example of everything that's wrong with public perception, why should it be seen as creepy when an adult male likes something bright and colourful that happens to have a target demographic of young kids? Moreover; how the hell did they suddenly start asking about sexual deviancies? Why did they make that association in the first place?

 

Also fuck them for cutting him off at the end there, they're more than happy to keep their own traps flapping and spouting nonsense but he can't have a chance to speak up for himself and us?? Fuck them...

This is just f*cking sad. They barely give him a chance to answer questions, and they immediately assume that his interest has sexual undertones. This is the same thing that happens to furries, and it's going to happen to bronies too. Every time they're given a media soapbox to stand on and voice their views in a serious way, they'll be shot down and socially persecuted. Mainstream media and niche interests like MLP: FiM will never mix.

Personally, I think the media picks the more extreme fans to show to the world because they will get a bigger reaction from the mainstream public. For all we know, that person isn't a real brony, because all the information you can quickly find the information he says....plus....everything said...seemed...."off"

I always cringe whenever a brony (or anyone with an otherwise harmless interest) ever appears on TV because generally they're shown in the most negative light imaginable. Shows like this don't care about showcasing people's odd interests, all they care about is poking fun at the "freaks" and getting a few cheap laughs because weirdness equals ratings.

It's reality television. They have no interest in being fair and having a fair representation, they're in the business of peddling freak shows. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this guy came across as totally normal and had some magic cutting done. They've done this to the furry fandom for years to the point no furries respond to TV casting calls because they know what will happen.

Did you watch the clip? It's more of a talk show than a reality show so their was no editing.So basically this guy came across as totally normal but with lots of assholes jumping in and making assumptions about him and randomly going sexual. 

 

I did. It was a bunch of talking heads spouting off about things that either don't happen, rarely happen, or are their completely uninformed opinions and not letting the man talk at all. You can see the guy's frustration in his face.

 

I don't see how this detracts from my point that it's made to pander to the freak show voyeurs. If anything the fact they just went off on how it's creepy and porny and wouldn't let the actual guest say anything proves it. If they were interested in a fair brony viewpoint they would've given him more than 20 words for the whole segment.

I'm so tired of these things... the only time any shows will give any screen time to bronies is to insult them.  I don't think I've ever seen any national media outlets do a story on bronies that didn't try and make us out to be some giant group of strange sexual deviants that meet up to dress in horse costumes and have pony-orgies.  And then you have a situation like this one where the brony they found is actually fairly eloquent at explaining the brony fandom, but they cut him off continually and don't let him explain anything.  I just wish one talk show would give some quality screen time to bronies to actually explain what the fandom is about.

Let's be honest, most people do think it's strange to be into this show.  And this is a TV show that wants to garner attention.  So I can see why he was on there.   

 

As far as bronies on TV goes, this is probably as good as it'll get.  Except for that one show on TV Land that poked fun at us in a hilarious manner.

When talk shows and the like have guests that are seen as weird in society, I always expect them to not get to speak much. Why? Because it happens so often. I remember seeing something a while back where some talk show hosted an asexual on the show to "learn about them." Only one of them was open to the fact that not all people want sex, the rest of them were just cutting him off stating that it was impossibly weird and he's just a celibate/hasn't found the right one yet. The same goes for this and other minorities. Anything that society views as weird is just shut down without say. Until people become more accepting, that's just a fact in life that we'll just have to deal with. A sad fact, but nonetheless a fact.

That's why I don't watch these type of shows; they never give the person they're insulting a chance to defend themselves.  On top of that, it's quite frankly just odd to find pleasure in other's little quirks.  Hell, we all have them.  I know I have tons of things that I like that would be frowned upon on that show. I'm just saying that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.  I feel as if it could be much, much, worse, ala Howard Stern and Jerry Springer.

Hello everyone. If you haven't guessed by my name...I am the Brony in the video. I'd like to address a couple of things in your comments.

 

1.) I am a real brony. The photos are of me, my Halloween costume and my stash of collectibles. I look forward to seeing some of you at BronyCon this  year.

 

2.) My outfit: The producers actually wanted me to wear my Rainbow Dash costume for the interview but I chose not to. I knew that if I wasn't wearing something a little "extreme" they would cancel the story, so my Spike hoodie was a compromise. Maybe it was a strong choice. Maybe it wasn't..but it was the choice that I made and I think it was smarter than wearing the costume.

 

3.) Homophobic microagressions like "masculine" and "normal" are exactly the kind of bullying tactics that lead an 11 year old Brony in North Carolina to attempt suicide. It saddens my heart to see that kind of dialogue within our own community.

 

And lastly, it's very easy for all of you to decree judgements about how I handled myself from the comfort of your laptops. I don't know that any of you would have done any different being thrown to the wolves on live national television. I was absolutely set up to fail and I think I came out of the situation with grace and civility representing us as positvely as I could given the circumstances.

Hello everyone. If you haven't guessed by my name...I am the Brony in the video. I'd like to address a couple of things in your comments.

Out of curiosity, did you actually read the conversation before commenting?  Nobody said anything about your clothes except one person saying they liked your hoodie.  And I have no clue who your third comment was targeted at...

 

For the most part, everybody was saying that you did a good job, but that the hosts of the show should have given you more of a chance to answer questions and explain bronies.  If you are actually the person in the video, you might want to join in the actual discussion going on instead of addressing criticisms of yourself that weren't made.
