I've been playing the game for a couple of days now, I can safely say that it was definitely worth the w8. This game just goes to show the sheer dedication that is present within the brony fandom. So to everyone on the team behind the tribute edition I applaud you for all of your hard work. You all deserve a brohoof of epic proportions  B)!

That's not to say that the game is perfect though. Pulling off combos and specials are a bit confusing with the way the controls are set-up, but it could just be me since I'm forced to play with my keyboard. If I had a 360 or PS3 controller, then it would probably make my life sooooo much easier.

But other than there being a few hiccups here and there, as well as there being no difficulty setting for the story mode, MLP FIM Tribute Edition is a fun and enjoyable experience. I'm sure that the original Mane 6 Dev Team are all proud of you guys, so keep up the gr8 work.

BTW, can't w8 to finally play as Gilda, Trixie, Octavia, & Derpie when they finally get released!!!!!!!!!

You cant open the game from the WinRAR file. You have to make a new file on your desktop label it: MLP Fighting is Magic

Then take the files from the winrar file and move it to the new file on your desktop and go to the tribute edition program and go to compatibility and make sure the 'Run as administrator' is checked then click ok.

I wanted to play the game with my PS2 controller via USB controller device, but it doesn't seem like my controls aren't registering or inputting at all. Is there any remedy to my problem? my xbox360 USB controller doesn't work properly if you guys are asking me.

Try getting a program called XPadder, and then map keyboard strokes to your gamepad using the program.

Unless that's what you are doing, in which case idk

So... how does the game work? I downloaded it earlier today and probably played around 100 times the first story fight and I couldn't even bring Twilight down to 50% health once. Won't even go on how I couldn't land a single hit on anyone through telepone  :(

Maybe it's because I'm used to more smash brothers style fighting but I find this extremely hard. On story mode, I can never get passed Applejack and the controls are extremely confusing (do you really need that many buttons to do one move) then again I prefer the smash brothers style fighting game so maybe that's way it's hard.

Are you using the Option>Joystick menu at the very top of the window to setup the controller buttons?

The controls are very old school, so if all you have to compare them to is SSB, Injustice, MK, or many other recent 3D style fighting games then it could be confusing I imagine. These controls are like how MK used to be, or like the old KI, Street Fighter, Primal Rage, and all those old 2D style games. The difficulty is fairly difficult though since there aren't any settings for that right now. I'm pretty sure it's just set to "hard".

That's defiantly a problem for me since I didn't grow up playing those games and grew up play smash brothers melee.

Let me tell you, Twilight is the most OP AI opponent to play against. I beat her after like what, over a hundred tries? It was hard winning 2 rounds against her. Geez. The thing about her is that she's so erratic and hard to predict, with the teleportation moves and on-the-ground high attack... Oh, I beat her with Pinkie Pie because she's the easiest to play as for me AND she's my best pony. And of course her level three super combo is just fantastic albeit needs polishing.

Although the game may seem impossibly hard, its a great challenge and the satisfaction of beating just one character, or even one round is undoubtably worth it. I love this game!

Finally beat the game with PP! I feel like battling Twi helped me learn valuable skills and make me develop actual strategies. The game got an error once so I had to restart from the beginning, but I beat Twi only on the second try that time... Flutters was another tricky one, but i got her after a while.

Time to play as Dash.

OK maybe I'm asking about something obvious, but I didn't use Windows for years...

I extracted the game directiory and I try to run the game (Tribute_Edition.exe) on my Windows 7 64bit, and it says:

"The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Well, I have MS Visual Studio C++ Redistributable, actually in several different versions, including the latest from 2013, but none of them fix that problem :-/ Anticipating obvious advices: yeah, I restarted this damned machine several times already.

And the irony is that I can run it on Linux through Wine without problem o_O  Damn, how much I hate Microsoft.. ;-/

Any ideas why it doesn't start and how to fix it?

I've ran into missing dll issues in the past and the only way I could solve the problem was to download just that missing file and install it. Just be very careful doing so, watch what site you get it from and that the file is legit (dll-files is a good place). You could as a first step reinstall MSVSCR 2010 though and see if it works for you. I never had much luck that way, YMMV.

I luckily had no issues and was able to play...

Suffice to say, I played Rainbow Dash in story mode and got my flank kicked to high heaven by AI Rainbow Dash. It's mostly because it took me forever to figure out which buttons actually controlled her, but it definitely also was because the AI actually knew what it was doing.

So I decided to just go versus mode and start kicking a pony that was just standing there's butt. Hopefully I can get a controller, it's way too hard to play on a computer keyboard. All I know is that I really like all the ponies in this version, Rainbow Dash was of course awesome as heck with her tornado attack, storm clouds, and Rainnuke finisher, and Fluttershy has some pretty killer moves herself what with all the animal control.

Can't wait to get a controller and play again!

In case you want to play on keyboard again... actually, this is for playing the game in general.

The game is impossible if you are not blocking constantly (left down). The key to actually playing the game is to wait for the gap in the opponent's attacks and unleash a combo at that precise moment. It's actually easier than it sounds, i think. When you think your combo is finished or you started taking damage, go back to blocking and again wait for the right time to counter. Also, save super attacks till the end for a quick finish.

Needless to say this does take some practice. Not mocking you or anything but Dash probably is the easiest character to play as well as Pinkie. Once you master one character, others seem not too hard...

... with the possible exception of TWILIGHT. As much as I love her she's a bit of a pain. Takes more skill to play as and one heck of an AI. Personally, I'm pushing her off until I beat the game with all the other characters. So yeah, hope this helps. Enjoy the game!

Thanks, @@The Mane-iac, it worked. I found this DLL bundled with several other programs on my computer (but strangely enough, none of them in the system directory :P), so I just copied it into the game directory and it works now :)

The story mode is hard as hell! I got my plot bucked out beyond recognition :P Instant K.O. ;) And having both players look perfectly identical doesn't help the case ;-/

So I started practicing in the multiplayer mode, fighting with myself. The combos seem to be very similar for all characters so far. It is always some sort of rolling through the downward directions. This is good, since it's easier to grasp this way ;) But playing it on keyboard has its drawbacks: Keyboard is scanned in a multiplexed manner, so some key combinations are forbidden and doesn't work together. Thank Celestia it could be customized.

I don't know how to use "magic" with other characters than Twilight, since it grows very slowly, and only when I kick some plots. But then, other character's life shrinks, and I win before I'm able to use the magic :P So what's the point of it?

Oh, and from what I see, this game doesn't seem to be any more "finished" than the previews I've seen on YouTube. There are still only 6 characters (the Mane Six). Other characters cannot be chosen.

BTW I noticed another strange "bug": When I'm on the title screen with that blinking "Press Start", the background music starts to play, but stops after a while, always in the same moment, as if the music file were broken. Is it only me? Or it is that way for you too?

Of course Rainbow Dash is the easiest, she's the best fighter of the group!

*Cheeses*

But seriously, I know how to block and everything, I played the leak with the broken Fluttershy and the Rainbow Dash with the limited animations and no supers.

I just suck at playing fighting games with a keyboard. I can do way better once I get a controller.

Not to say I'm an expert or anything, I'm just a filthy casual.
