So I kinda burned an hour or three doing a digital sketch inspired by the requests section, namely this post here: http://mlpforums.com/topic/90762-i-am-in-need-of-the-art-of-thy-oc/ I don't fully know why, but I just found myself liking Aquaspark (and her ref) enough to give it a shot.

Anyways, it's not far from midnight here, I'm kinda stalling until I hear back from them about the coloration, so...  :muffins:  I kinda felt like sharing what I have so far in the meantime.

Relatedly, I've been meaning to do like, some kind of art dump bit on this forum and/or just tacking on requests/ocs/random crud as I go about them.

But I'm not quite there yet. So yeah. Here's some art of some sort.

*Character is obviously not mine; see above link

Lineart (though sadly I deleted the initial gesture sketch):

After adding bases and easy-to-swap-out color layers...

EDIT:

Shading is done, and honestly, I'm quite proud of how it turned out. Still awaiting color correction instructions.

For kicks, and evidence of why I think I'll keep separate color layers for all my works now:

Layers are my best friend now.

I really like your style~ Your lines are really nice and base coloring is neat and tidy. I hope the finished product is posted! Thanks for sharing this! :D

Thanks so much!  I've kinda been making my peace with line styles, and at the moment I've taken the messy/sketch-like approach.

Either way the final product would be like, shading/color correction.  :yay:  ...The former of which is always experimentation for me.

What extraordinary progress this is so far!

Very well done, it's looking quite nicely. :)

Thank you!  I'm happy to hear that~♪ Now hopefully the next stage just improves upon it, haha.

Thanks for commenting.  :)

I really like it and can't wait to see the finished product :) . I dig the armor and you did a great job making the cape distinct from her mane ( which I would imagine is very tricky ).

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees.
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

Thanks so much!  I appreciate you saying so, haha. Maaaay do the next step later today, but I'll see how things go.  :)

I always love seeing the progession stages of an art piece; it is always a joy to see to me.

I can honestly see why you took a shining to this character; both the design and colors are quite appealing and I am enjoying the your style for the line work. I cannot wait to the finished version, so keep up the lovely work. I hope to see more from you soon!

Same. It's interesting to see what things start as, and wind up being.  I wish I could have rolled the lineart and initial sketch together, but I deleted it before realizing I'd like to show it.

Anyways, thank you so much!  :yay:  Shading tends to be the stage I'm least sure about, but I guess just all the more reason to continue it. I need the practice.  :)

Aaaand. Burned an hour or two, but I got the shading done. Turned out better than I expected.

Also, if anyone wants to add tips/criticism on any subject, especially that involved for shading/stuff regarding the third pic's stage, I'm all for it.  :)

*sob* its so beautiful... *sob sob*

^^ so pretty! Good job :3

Thank you! I just hope the hours spent on it were worth it, haha.  :muffins:

...Now just playing around with colors, because I made the coloration based on single, paint-bucket-friendly layers. Takes me like, 30 seconds to do a complete palette swap, and I'm loving it.

I'm just learning how to use digital art stuff, so half of that made sense ^^ lol but none of mine look like that yet... *stares starry-eyed at your drawing*

Digital art is a tricky thing. I'm still learning a lot of it myself, haha.  :derp:  I've probably gone through 5 different ways to do lines by now, and several different shading strategies. The former I have an idea of, but the latter... Well, I still don't 'know' how to do shading, I just kinda wing it. Every. Time.

I believe in you though!  :muffins: If you set aside some time to practicing, or maybe watching/observing how other people shade, I'm sure you'll see a gradual slope of improvement.  Part of why I did this was, well, for sake of practice.
