Noire Panzer 3,526 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 I'm thinking about telling my mom about my "obsession" soon. She will probably be ok with it knowing her. I remember I told my family and they are like well seeing as random as you can be whatever then. Hope you can have success when you tell her /)^3^(\ Sig by @Boo "We stick together the pony way!" InspiredBrony 31 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 Well, at first I was way to scared to admit it, but then a friend (of, my bad, a USED TO BE friend) came over and I accidentally let him know I was a brony. My next mistake was to believe he would keep his mouth shut. Oh, I was the LAUGHING STOCK of the whole school. Then it reached my mom and, guess what, SHE'S against it, too! After that, I knew it couldn't get worse, so I just ignored everyone and started to be proud. Now everyone knows and I don't care what they think. I must thank him though, everyone knowing let me get the girlfriend I have now, as she was a brony, too.
Scootalove 10,689 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 I'm not really that proud, though the show and the community really does help me discover more about the show that I love. Although, I'm not ashamed at all. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
StarSwirlTheBearded 356 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 Oddly enough, I have no clue what peoples' reaction to me coming out as a brony would be. Most of my friends wouldn't be happy, but they wouldn't care as long as I didn't bring it up that often. My family's reaction is extremely hard to predict. A few of my friends and society as a whole will think I'm gay. All will accuse me of hypocrisy (I was anti-brony). Nonetheless, if I didn't get much hate from revealing, I'd probably be proud of it. Away 2,077 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 (edited) Idk how I can be proud of what I just happen to be. I think pride can only be associated with something you choose to do. Edited March 20, 2014 by LatinoChurro
Discordian 6,015 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 Just being a brony isn't really much to be proud of. If you're an artist you have your art to be proud of. If you make MLP fangames, you've got that to be proud of. The title of brony? There isn't anything to be proud of with that. It's just there. It signifies you are part of the fandom.

Discordian 6,015 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 Actually, I should rephrase. Being a brony in itself is nothing to be proud of. Breaking societal norms and gender roles? That's something to do with pride. Too much discrimination and illogical assumptions over really stupid crap like ponies and the color pink. The target audience is often used against bronies as if it mattered even one bit or changed the show at all. Conversely, even if you aren't in it for all that there's no reason to be ashamed of being a brony either. Just as much as there's not necessarily anything to be proud of there's nothing to be ashamed of either. It's a show, it sparks creativity in others, it brings together people who would normally be at odds. It has a much more positive effect than negative.

ReverseFaller 2,483 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 Yeah, I guess you could say I'm proud of being a brony. It's a very creative, talented fandom that usually gives off a warm, friendly vibe. I can be happy to be a part of that. I also am happy that I gave the show a chance. 2 years ago, I would have never guessed MLP would be something I'd obsess over in the future. 1 Credit for the signature goes to Kyoshi

Adorkable 2,737 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 I'm a very proud Brony. But there are some people I just won't tell, simply because they will refuse to understand. I've said on a previous post before (in a different topic) that I live in a family/community that have their minds set on a certain stereotype of what a man should be like. If I'm not watching Nascar, covered in dirt/mud/oil, or rubbing dirt in open wounds, I'm not a man. So, with that being said, there are some people I just don't tell simply because they'll refuse to understand. I guess I can see it though, around where I live, it's not just everyday you hear a man likes ponies, I dunno. But I do tell people who I believe will understand. ^^
aoEAF2FBvC0MIo2Q 3,673 March 20, 2014 Share March 20, 2014 (edited) Eh, I'm not really sure if there's any sense in being proud of being a brony...Well, I can see two components to this; one is that personal preference which is when we're referring to liking the show and the other component being affiliated with the fanbase. So I guess the first thing you might want to consider doing is making clear what you are talking about; liking the show or affiliating with the brony fandom or both. Most people would just assume you'd only be talking about liking the show. Being proud of watching the show, a personal preference essentially, can come off as pretty obnoxious. It's like being proud of your sense of fashion or choice in video game consoles. Saying that you're proud to affiliate on the other hand... Not totally sure how that goes, to be honest. Generally speaking, however, I think it's silly to say that you are proud of being a brony be it because of the common interest or the affiliation. This isn't something that gets said out loud but when someone says "I am proud of this and that," people have the tendency to think: "Are you implying that I should be ashamed for not having done or being this and that?" That's why it can come off as obnoxious. Instead I would recommend replacing the phrase "proud to" with "happy to" or "content with" because you're not pushing your ego with that. People tend to give more respect to humility anyway. Edited March 20, 2014 by SunBurn
