I completely agree, I loved Sonic 4 despite its many "flaws" according to die-hard classic fans.

I haven't seen that much of her myself so far, but she does look like an interesting character!

Of course, I believe everyone thought Marine was getting a complete reboot herself.

Did you see the voice acting for Sticks? She sounds pretty crazy but in a good way.

I think you could still consider Sticks a rewritten Marine though. Marine was from a different world so maybe Sticks is this world's version of her.

I'm kinda glad that the Archie Sonic series acknowledges that Marine is annoying, and she gets joked on a lot. :)

I personally hate Sonic 4 Episode 1, due to it's lack of any originality, mediocre level design, and awful physics. Yes, those ARE important to a Sonic game, because that's what made Sonic stand apart from other platformers.

I also thought Sticks was going to be Marine. I wouldn't have minded a rewrite of her to be honest.

I think expecting every game to be original is a lost cause. The key is to take an existing method and make it work. That alone makes a game good.

See, now these are some of the things I really don't care too much about. If it has Sonic in it, I'm going to enjoy it one way or another, I don't usually have bad things to say about a Sonic game unless they really bother me, but for every other part, I enjoy every Sonic game. I honestly rarely complain about them, and are often supporting them, even one of his worst games like Sonic '06.

That's exactly how I feel about it. If it's Sonic, I'm gonna love it. People have tried to tell me that this is bad reasoning but it's exactly how I feel about it. Everything else is just added stuff and I find ways to see what they were trying to accomplish rather than what they actually did and I appreciate it for that. What it was trying to be often matters more than what it is to me. This applies to all video games, not just Sonic.

I was actually a Mario fan, but I have played several Sonic games. Those being Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders 1 and 2...and a little bit of Sonic Adventure 1.... oh, and Sonic and Mario in the Olympic Games 2008, though it's not entirely a Sonic game. My favorite character has been Tails due to his ingenuity and his flight element (he has 2 tails to fly with!! How cool is that :P?).

Sonic X was also a cool show, though I only watched so many episodes (perhaps up to the 20th).

I don't mind using level tropes multiple times, in fact some Zones like Lost Labyrinth benefited from having new stage gimmicks, like the torch. It's just that 4 Episode 1 feels TOO familiar to Sonic 1 and 2, even though it has the name "Sonic 4," meaning it should try to be it's own thing, if you get what I mean.

I like racing games, and hence I liked to play Sonic Riders when it came out. I was usually Jet the Hawk or Tails. The storyline wasn't bad. Although the idea of a player completing the storymode by just racing others doesn't seem very appealing to me.

Sonic Heroes wasn't bad either.

I know what you're saying, Blue Blood, but more of something we know is good can only be a good thing, ya know?

Also, I've never really believed Mario and Sonic had to be opposites. I know Sonic was created to be competition to Mario but you don't have to hate Mario to like Sonic or vice versa.

Personally, I'm just not a fan of 2D platforming in general. Most games can't do it very well and even those that do feel really limited by the screen size.

Now see, I agree with this. Another Sonic game that receives a lot of negative feedback, but I actually enjoy it.

Well, not the damned special stages, but the rest of it is good! Playing the same levels with different teams over and over again can get a little old, but as I said, I still enjoy it.

Guessing you haven't heard of the infamous SEGA and Nintendo console war in the 90's?

Not only has their been a book written on it, but they're also making a movie on it.

When you say special stages, do you mean the levels that require you to chase after the Chaos Emeralds? I have to say that acquiring those was annoying since I think you had to complete a certain level with each team :okiedokielokie:.

Heh, the ending with Team Chaotix was...a plot twist!!

Yes, usually stages that involve obtaining a Chaos Emerald through a challenge is called a Special Stage.

I, and many other fans have always recommend acquiring them through Team Rose, since their levels are the shortest and easiest.

I wasn't surprised, there were plenty of hints through their story that gave it away pretty easily. ^^;

Yeah I remember how easy Team Rose was xD. You finish a level as fast as you say. Team Shadow I believe was the much more rigorous one and Team Chaotix recquired you to complete several objectives aside from reaching the end of the game..

Oh I know about it but I never took part in it. I never had a Genesis or SNES and only ever owned Super Mario Bros for NES. I didn't get into either series until after the PS1/N64 era.

I know that's where a lot of the duality comes from but I just don't feel that it was ever necessary. Console wars are dumb anyway.

The special stages didn't go well with the physics of the game and people tried to play them like the Sonic 2 special stages because it looked like them. The key to them is to always stay at the bottom of the tube, or as close as possible. Then you just had to wait until you had a full, or almost full, boost meter and go all out for the emerald and only twitching you rway through any obstacles. If all else failed you could just wait until the end of the stage where there's a gigantic line of the red star orbs which gave you basically infinite boost. Sometimes that's the best way to nab the emerald.

As for how you unlocked them: You had to have a key from the second stage of each level (such as Mystic Mansion or Final Fortress, rather than Hang Castle or Air Fleet respectively). There's an emerald for each level but it doesn't matter what teams you get them with. Team Rose has the easiest time getting the keys due to the simplicity and short length of their levels but they were the slowest team also so doing the actual special stages was usually better with the other teams. Though if you're pro enough it doesn't matter what teams get which keys. You'll have them pretty easily.

I've heard the PS2/Xbox versions of the game were considerably worse than the Gamecube version though so anyone who played those might have had a worse time.

And they were near impossible to get unless you could tap that boost button like there's no tomorrow.

Tap what now? You could just hold it and it would go as long as you had boost left. You didn't need to tap.

My favorite Sonic game is the Taxman remake of Sonic CD. Before I discovered how bad the original CD was, I loved it for the time travel gimmick, multiple soundtracks, (I love both, BTW), and the fact that it had more exploration and platforming. The Taxman remake added more speed, the addition of Tails, the switching of the two soundtracks, and the Special Stages aren't broken anymore.
I love the CD remake, and it's actually one of my all time favorite games. :)

You could do either, I'm pretty sure tapping it made you go faster.

While not a fan of the classics, I loved the cutscene at the beginning. ^^

I don't remember it really making you much faster no matter which method you use. I just hold down the button a lot. To be sure, this is Heroes we're talking about, right?

There was an initial burst of speed, yeah, but after you slow down you eventually start speeding up as long as you run into no obstacles. *Has played Heroes more times than I can count*

Ah, so we ARE talking about Heroes!

I've played the game as Team Sonic a lot, but I don't go back to Heroes that much, even though I think it's better than Adventure 2. *Awaits for gunshots*

Not for the story. Know what I mean? ^^

I think the stories in each are easily ranked about the same, it's more of a preference. The gameplay though? Adventure 1 has Adventure 2 beat. I'm glad they brought back the open world and sidequests in 06.

Say, do all of you, who have watched the show, remember the Diamond Dogs episode? Re-watch it on a bigger screen (preferably a PC) and look inside the carts. You'll find a Chaos Emerald, a Sol Emerald, and a Super Emerald.

There's more detail in my post in the Rarity Fan Club, but seriously, go watch the episode again and you'll find two pink Chaos Emeralds and a Sol Emerald!

I disagree with the stories being the same, I've always thought Adventure 2's story was much more drastic in terms of action and such. Not saying that Adventure 1 had a bad story, just saying I thought Adventure 2 had a better one. But, that's just me.

I do agree on the gameplay, Adventure 1 felt a lot better than 2, although Sonic was about the same in both, excluding the power ups. However, the treasure hunting stages and shooter stages I felt were terrible. So really, I'm only enjoying about 1/3 of the game, which is Sonic and Shadow's parts.

Sonic is really awesome! I still can't believe I haven't beaten Sonic Heroes up until now...

I wouldn't blame you, it's not so hard as beating the game with the teams, but collecting the Chaos Emeralds can be a real pain in that game, as previously mentioned.
