Adachi 772 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 After reading some of the replies to my assertive Fluttershy topic, I came to realize why I liked assertive Fluttershy. Equestria doesn't really have any sarcastic characters. Maud doesn't count, because she's actually being serious, she just has a dry humour and talks in a deadpan way, which makes her so funny and adorable. Rainbow Dash has her sarcastic moments, but usually, when she's not busy training to be a Wonderbolt or helping friends, she's either boasting or proving herself to back up those boasts. Basically, we need a character who is like Raven. Sarcastic, but has enough good qualities to make up for being sarcastic. 3 “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain

Ribbonfree 2,383 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 (edited) Each of the ponies have their own little moments of sarcasm and dry humor and I appreciate that sort of humor so it stands out to me. A character with an even sharper tongue could probably fit in fine as the odd man out of the group, but I personally don't feel it's necessary. EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot about Discord. When he appears he essentially is the odd man out of the group anyways. Edited March 29, 2014 by Lil' Strapless
Scootalove 10,689 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 (edited) Sarcastic characters have their own kind of humor, which I love because you think their humor would be mostly funny but it's usually a mix of serious and other humor elements. I think we have characters that act sarcastic and say remarks that include sarcasm. Adachi 772 March 29, 2014 Author Share March 29, 2014 What about Discord? I am certain he is sarcastic. Darn it you beat me to it. Curse you. Yeah, didn't think of him. Although he doesn't get nearly enough love, they need to roll out some more Discord episodes. He makes me laugh out of all the other characters on the show. 1 “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain
Sunny Fox 5,951 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 Twilight, Rarity, RD and Spike are frequently sarcastic. AJ is too honest, Pinkie too random and Fluttershy too kind (unless her switch gets flipped to Flutterbitch) I don't think we need a pony version of Raven. 1 Happy minion of The Fabulous One! Yeah, I think you're right, now that I think about it. I think I've even seen Pinkie Pie roll her eyes at some point. “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain
Wind Chaser 4,768 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 A good concept in theory, but the last thing we need here is a one-note character with a one-note gimmick. Spike is the best candidate seeing as how the writers have all but drained him of characterization so far this season. He's a natural fit, being in some things the opposite of what the ponies are (in species and gender), yet holding so much in common with them (their friendships). Spike could mature but still hold that at times sarcastic, at times supportive role, like the one that won over many in Equestria Girls, but not overtly sarcastic and non-supportive like he was in "Winter Wrap-Up" and "Hurricane Fluttershy". Eloquence 2,076 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 I am 5000% in favor of Spike taking on the sarcastic character role. It's about time the writers gave him something to do, and anything is better than the tired literal humdrum he's been reduced to in this season. We've seen him be sarcastic plenty of times before, and if as he matured his comedic timing and wit improved then that would make perfect sense to me. I'm all in favor of Spike becoming the sarcastic character. As long as he keeps his fascination with moustaches and ice cream. And also get to see more Spike x Rarity fantasies Edited March 29, 2014 by Assertive Fluttershy “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain
Nameless Knight 1,001 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 *Sarcasticly* OOOOH So you are talking about a character that has a disorder that makes them sound sarcastic all the Time!!! Meirno 550 March 29, 2014 Share March 29, 2014 Well, Discord and Dashie both have very sarcastic attitudes. Plus a character that is only sarcastic would be extremely annoying. I don't think we would need that. Plus those village ponies always have something sarcastic or just plain rude to say anyways... I think there is plenty of it to go around.
