A bit of funny business involving McDonalds

The manager of that McDonald's must've been a *chan tard

Yeah, that's pretty whack... That guy should really try complaining, I'm sure they'll give him some sort of recompense for it in some way

Sounds similar to when someone I knew who was vegetarian got a meat patty after she asked for it to not have meat and they refused to refund her saying she needed protein.

But god...That is just uncalled for. Sue 'em for all they got!

I smell a lawsuit

I mean, seriously, just calm down if you can't handle us, as for society, you deserve a kick in the shin, one that breaks your shin.

This.

The manager could've just politely refused the sale, but instead he did that. Behavior like that can get anyone into serious trouble, even get himself fired.

He could have also just as easily said "Oh look, a way to make more money. Even though I disprove of adults enjoying ponies, at least I can satisfy me greedy needs because of it."

But unfortunately, greedy assholes would much rather be assholes than be greedy.

Well... Business policies constantly change in... wherever really. Remember when there was "Hands off" policy? I guess, to some extent, that still applies, to smaller things that is. I don't think it was morally correct for the manager to do that, but I don't think he can be jailed or sued for what he did unfortunately.

Great adventuring for great treasures!....Except when I'm hurt...

I think I would have looked up the number and called corporate HQ right there in the restaurant. I would have been like, "Hey, the manager here is refusing me service. Want to speak to him? He's right here." and handed him the phone.

As much as I'd like to think differently, the world is full of jerks and you just encountered one. Verbal abuse is one thing, but refusing to sell you something you want is another matter. Sure they say they reserve the right to refuse service, but that's ridiculous.

Talk about kicking a dog while he's down. However, the world can be one gigantic hate machine, so forget him. Vow to never go to that McDonalds again. If they don't want your money, they don't have to take it. Take your business elsewhere, there's literally hundreds of thousands of McDonalds everywhere.

So I heard from someone who lives across the country from me that he saw a guy go into McDonalds to get the toys and when he said they were for him the General Manager was called and the guy started ranting about how he had heard of these "Sick fucks" who got these toys and liked this show and the store had a no tolerance policy for them and refused to sell to this guy. He then walked out shame-faced and on his way out got called a faggot.

My question is...are they allowed to do that? I don't think they are allowed to refuse a sale to someone as long as they are not disrupting anything. Hell, I know they can call the cops if he had refused to move until they gave him the sale but it's honestly very disturbing to know there are people out there who will literally refuse a sale because of some rumor they heard from their boss who likely made it sound worse than it is.

Shame on the manager for treating the customer that way and shame on the guy who walked out without saying a single word. Sickens me to see such behavior from adults.

A friend of my boss's cousin's neighbor knows a guy who heard a woman say her husband met a dude that has a buddy who actually heard his sister say she met someone who's father works for a man that lives down the street from a girl who once dated boy that can confirm if this actually happened.

In other words, this rumor would have actually ended up on the news if it really happened. The "Shame faced" guy would have a serious lawsuit if such a thing actually happened. Forget about buying a toy. If the manager publicly called him such a thing, the manager would no longer have a job. I suspect "Someone across the country" is trolling you.

[Hypothetically] this is probably why the manager hadn't moved past employment in a fast food chain. Honestly it does seem a bit unbelievable that someone with that low of a moral code would be employed period.

Awesomeness = at least 20% Cooler.

A possibility but the person I know this from isn't the type of person who gives false information, even if he is a major asshole when delivering it. (He was literally saying his life was complete because he saw such a thing)

I trust the source, though I know nothing more than what I was told.

It still sounds highly doubtful to me. Why would an employee get a manager in the first place because someone had cash in his hand and wanted to buy something so benign and harmless? Why then would the manager throw a fit and go all ape-shit crazy over a little plastic toy? It is actually a crime to make ungrounded public accusations against people. If the alleged purchaser had called the police, the manager would be charged.

A major asshole saying this made his life complete makes me doubt the tall story even more. Sorry.

This is coming from a story in Louisiana. The guy lives in a part of the country that, according to him, doesn't tolerate stuff that they view as gay or girly in men and such. Oldschool country, I guess you could say. That's partially the reason I still believe his story because I know that in the area he lives there are many like him who believe that things like buying MLP toys and enjoying the show openly are things that society should quench. He even said that he would have done the same as the manager because he believes society shouldn't let such behavior flourish and such things need to be nipped in the bud whenever they surface.

Knowing him like I do, I know that he doesn't lie about stuff like that. You may not believe it but unless he says otherwise I wouldn't doubt that this actually went down.

Though now that you bring up the question of it actually happening I do see how others would see it that way but I know this person well enough to not doubt his words. I do know, however, that if this happened anywhere else that manager would have lost his job.

It's fully legal to refuse service to anyone for any reason in most places.

What isn't legal, was the hateful remarks and the poor treatment of the customer. I'm pretty sure that counts as harrassment, and if "faggot" was used by an employee, a hate crime. What happened there was completely unacceptable, and if not lawsuit worthy then definately worthy of filing complaints.

I noticed a lot of people mentioned sueing McDonald's. I'd say the worst part about this is that someone could go as far as to sue them, but what would that solve. That person would get their money and their toys, but then EVERYBODY would be aware of and make a big deal about what will probably be called something along the lines of a "pony epidemic" or something stupid like that. Every stupid teenager would be on Facebook and twitter making a bigger deal about it that this Kony crap or whatever it is they're whining about now and bronies everywhere would become the target of teen angst.

On top of that, we would probably get much more negative media attention then we need an not only would we be a target of teenage bandwagon stupidity, but adult criticism and that could escalate into a much bigger bitch fest than anybody needs. Things like this could even possibly lead to a cancellation. I know that none of you would ever allow that to happen, but just look at what happened with Derpy! A couple of whiny idiots complained and that almost led to the removal of a beloved character!

When you think about not only the possible, but the likely outcomes of this, and compare them to some of the other stupid things that people have caused today, you might notice that it's probably not even worth it it get worked up about.

This got a lot longer than t was supposed to, and maybe I'm just being paranoid, but still, looking at some of the stuff people will get all bitchy about can get me worried sometimes and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Simple - if you're in charge, it's your opinion that matters. It's quite possible that the employee didn't care, but the manager specifically said "let me know if any bronies come in looking for toys", then they employee has two options - tell the manager when a brony comes in, or get fired for insubordination.

As long as the manager's instructions do not involve committing a crime (and the act of notifying the manager alone is not a crime), and the request is within the employee's employment agreement/job description (which usually include rather broad terms such as "perform additional tasks as instructed by your supervisor"), then the employee can receive disciplinary action for failing to follow a superior's directions.

As for lawsuits, the customer could probably get a lawsuit out of this, but is it really worth the effort? Lawsuits are expensive, take a lot of time, and are very difficult. Lawsuits are not meant to be a first course of action, but instead a final action available when all other means of remedy have been exhausted. Why would the customer want to spend tens of thousands of dollars and several months fighting a lawsuit when this entire issue could easily be resolved by spending ten minutes on the phone speaking to the district manager or corporate office.

(Again, not a lawyer, and laws vary based on location and terms of employment and all that other good stuff.)

I never said refusing to sell something was a crime. My original stance was that I doubt if the story actually happened. Now I'm not quite sure if it did or not. . Who knows? The guy trying to buy ponies may have been drunk and acting all weird. Maybe it was a non-bronie trolling McDonald's.

While it would've been nice to here the story first-hand from the person who went though this, I was more or less saying that I find the story to be believable as presented.

I was basing my opinion on those Youtube videos people make on how to be thrown out of Walmart. I actually witnessed one being recorded in a Walmart I was shopping in one night. These two guys age about 18 each had taken two of the electric scooters to help disabled shoppers. They were crashing into things and knocking them over, while a third guy followed them while recording on his cellphone. I was thinking that this might be something along those lines.

I do wish we had the full story too. I admit now that I'm starting to believe it after reading several first person accounts of similar things happening in other McDonald's around the country. My faith in human decency is rapidly fading away.

I'm still collecting my ponies. While I'm doing it, I'm keeping my eyes peeled. My cellphone will be in my hand, and if I see any McDonald employee giving a male Brony a hard time, I will record and post it everywhere I can think of! I will also make myself available as a witness and give the recording to the police! I will then make myself a pony shopper by proxy, and make sure the rejected Brony gets his toy!!!

How in the name of God can buying a small plastic pony be considered wrong or deviant?

I will NOT love and tolerate any closed minded bigoted hamburger slingers!

You don't need to sue them. There's a better way to resolve the situation, and you won't get called out for being a brony if you take this approach.

Call the Regional Office. Complain to them. Tell them you were buying it for a younger sister or niece or something. They have no way to tell if you really have a younger sister or niece, and they won't bother to look. And finding their numbers is easy. Seriously, five minutes online, and you'll find them all.

I had a similar situation years back when I was buying a Pokemon Happy Meal from McDonalds. I called their office, and the Regional Director (RD... heh) basically told me that the employee had no business saying something like that to any customer. Long story short, I ended up getting vouchers for free meals as a result.

It's usually against company policies for employees to badmouth customers, especially in family establishments like McDonalds, where children could be present, hearing it. They have no choice but to compensate you for your trouble, because this kind of situation makes them (the RDs) look bad too.
