Yes, I'm shamelessly bumping my own ask thread.

What of it?

 

FIGHT ME

 

Not fighting anyone armed with pencils. Ever been poked in the eye with a pencil? I hear it hurts.

 

Ok, here are two serious questions.

 

1. Do you believe that focusing on commission work stifles artistic integrity?

 

2. Is charcoal/pencil and paper dead? (noticed on your DA profile your pic regarding drawing on a tablet)

 

And here is a non serious question

 

1. Does it drive you crazy that I renumbered this question '1' instead of '3'?

Ok, here are two serious questions.

1. Maybe. You'd certainly be drawing mostly what other people want.

When that happens, you lose what it means to be an artist, IMO. Deep sh*t like that.

 

On the topic of integrity and commissions:

I've seen many people who were staunch in their defense of things they wouldn't do, but as soon as money was on the table, they were quick to forget.

I have a few things I won't draw. But if I were offered money to draw them? I just might.

 

Because, lol, money.

 

2. Not yet, but it's definitely a dying breed, especially when you're trying to make actual, serious art with effort, not just random sketches and doodle. Nothing beats the satisfaction of making something awesome from pencil and paper.

There's no redo button. Erasers are unreliable. Coloring is a pain. Inking is intense.

But that makes it all better when you look at the finished product and say "yea. I drew this."

 

When making something digitally....I don't know...it comes out looking better, and more accurate to what It looks like in your head (not the mention its a sh*tload easier), but...where's the love? Where's the feeling of pride? Is it hiding behind the layers and line auto-correct?

 

Regardless, I'm find myself less motivated to draw on paper during my quest for digital art mastery.

I'm getting there. I'm just becoming another, boring, schtickless digital artist for the digital art pile.

 

Is that worth it?

3. What's your favorite brand of vehicle?

 

(I'll answer my own so you know how I feel: 1. Yes, 2001 Ford F-150... 2. Yes, I'm a gearhead... 3. Ford, but Chevy is ok.  Definitely not Dodges though, lol).

2. I've never understood the fascination with cars. But guns...I like guns

They may have slight differences, but are fundamentally the same.
