Rarity is British!

I've always believed that Rarity is or at the least aspires to be British, let me give you a few reasons:

 

•She's appears ashamed of her origins.

No American would be.

•She actively changed her accent to sound middle class. Again, something only a Brit would do.

• Her accent. Some say it's transatlantic, but as someone who has lived in one of the trendiest areas of London, Hampstead, you hear her accent all the time in the coffee shops and boutiques

•and finally...

 

I would really like a Brit to back me up on this!

I've never noticed her being ashamed of her origins. Where have you noticed that? She always seemed fine with them to me. In the Cutie Mark Chronicles she didn't seem particularly fussed about wherever she came from, and I noticed nothing from when her parents stopped by in Sisterhooves Social.

 

Changing your accent to middle class isn't necessarily exclusive to the Brits. It depends on the areas you grow up in from personal experience - live in Kensington or Knightsbridge and you'll most likely end up with that accent as opposed to your average Peckham/Brixton inhabitant. (No offence to anyone who lives in Peckham or Brixton, I'm sure you're quite lovely.)

 

In fact, the only really British thing I've seen Rarity do is enjoy a cup of tea. The rest of her seems France-influenced, mostly the brunt of her fashion enthusiasm. Then again, I've not looked too in-depth into Rarity, so I might be overlooking a few things ^^

Well, the voice actor is has a North-Western Mediterranean accent. So, I guess the white one has the same accent. French/British/whatever.

Pipsqueak comes from Trottingham, which is a play on Nottingham. Now NO one from Nottingham has that kind of accent!

I'd say that her accent is more trans-atlantic 1940s Uptown New york. Her character certainly fits with the Art Deco, fashion obsessed lady of the 1920s-early1940s.

Narp, Lauren Faust said she had a mid-atlantic accent when talking about her creation.

Add to the fact that none of her parents or Sweetie Belle have this accent (they have more of a Minnesotan accent), and this shoots the idea Down.

Going by her choice in fashion, and the "higher arts darrrling", she is modeled after 1920s era high society New York City girls. Her verbiage, and the way she pronounces words are evident of this.

While i don't think she sounds british, i did show my non-brony boyfriend a clip of her recently, and after seeing it he asked why she has a british accent. I think it might sound a bit british, but that atlantic is a much better way to describe it.

 

I can just hear Rarity seeing this post and responding indignantly.

I've said this once, and I'll say it again, that accent is heard all the time in London in places such as Hampstead, Highgate, Dulwich, Chiswick, etc etc. I know this because I've lived in Hampstead and Chiswick!

She speaks with a Trans-Atlantic Dialect, which is a learned accent that is more formal than your standard American accent; it gives her use of the language a bit more twang, but it is far from being british.

 

Also, a picture of Rarity saluting a Union Jack doesn't make her british.

No, she is not British. (It's also been stated that she's been in Ponyville all of her life, I believe, which is pretty far from being in the Equestrian equivalent of the U.K., judging by the other ponies surrounding her )

Her accent is supposed to be a near parody of the 1920s High roller New York lady accent. It goes along with her verbiage, and the way she acts.

This post annoys me. Being a brit myself. I know of NO ONE who is ashamed to be British! I know no brits who speak like rarity.
