Do you think we'll ever see the CMC grow up?

Enope. I mean unless there is a big time jump by the time season 5 comes around, there isn't any reason for it...if MLP goes on for a bajillion seasons, it may be possible we get the "South Park" effect, and never see them grow up, which would be lame.

I sincerely doubt we'll ever see them grow up. Ages almost never change in shows like these. I would love to see them get their cutie marks though. If it doesn't happen in the Equestria Games, I'd love to see each of them have an episode next season where they acquire it.

It wouldn't have to spell the end of their development either. Maybe we could have them becoming jealous over each other's talents, or really being insecure or confused about theirs. Maybe they just feel confused now that they have their cutie marks, and don't have anything to work towards. We could get Babs back, and have her feeling depressed about still being a blank flank when the rest of the Cutie Mark Crusaders have found their cutie marks. That could lead on to the Crusaders keeping their name and deciding they will crusade for every pony else's cutie marks. And just other, general growing-up things that kids all go through.

It'd really help further their characters. They don't need to 'grow up', but they shouldn't be kept static.

I sadly doubt it, although it would be mega awesome, the Cutie-Mark-Crusaders would become the We-Have-Nothing-Left-To-Do-Crusaders, and the writers would struggle

Not until the series finale or some kind of age spell, because their age right now is part of their characterization as well as a large part of their charm-it would also close a fair few possible storylines if they were no longer children and they wouldn't really be 'Cutie Mark Crusaders' anymore since earning them is a large part of growing up in Pony society-essentially ending their character arcs.

Plus, that would force the rest of the cast to age significantly as well.

Be careful when comparing MLP to stuff like The Simpsons and South Park. The only thing these shows have in common is that they are US-based animation productions. That's where it ends. In terms of live-action shows, they are as different as Sesame Street and Two and a Half Men.

While most cartoons stagnate their characters, MLP has shown that it's not afraid to take them further and grow them. Look at Twilicorn, for example. Name me another Western animation that would have evolved one of its central characters like that. I think you'd be able to count them all on one hand.

With that said, the Crusaders have a lot of personality, depth, and interests to be explored, even without their cutie marks. I can relate. I'm currently undecided in college and some people say that's the best major, and I turn it into a good thing, since I'm just starting out, I can try a little of everything, the kind of things I was not allowed to do in public school.

However, the main concern is for this to turn into a "Just Eat Gilligan" (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JustEatGilligan) type of plot where there is one simple solution that could end the whole thing, which is ignored to keep the show going on. I had originally thought this would be great for the end of the show a while back, and I had hopes for some kind of grand series finale where Rainbow Dash becomes a Wonderbolt, Twilight ascends (but that happened a bit early), and Rarity moves to Canterlot. However, back then, I was only expecting the show to last between 5-7 seasons.

I would love for this to have happened at the end of the show, but since we're looking at another 5 possible seasons, I have serious doubts about it, unless it turns out to be done right. How long is too long?

They'll stay young and eventually will get their cutie marks. Only time we might see them grown up into teens or adults is if there's a epilogue that flashes forward into the future that has grown CMC and middle-aged Mane Six.

For the next five years, we'll probably see them as teens or at least still in filly stage, but already earned their cutie-marks. Though, I have a sense that after FiM ends, there'll be another series with the CMC's in adulthood along with three other ponies filling in as the Mane 6, and the other Mane 6 that we're all familiar with ruling Equestria, with Celestia, Luna and Cadence's fate unknown. (Hope they're not killed off at that time. D:)

It's a double edged sword. While I don't want to see them crusading for the rest of the series--even the writers seem tired of it and are doing less and less with the crusade--the thing is, once they have their CMs, just what can the writers DO with them???

I don't want what happened the X Files, The Mentalist and Lost (among others) to happen to FiM where they drag a storyline out so long almost everyone stops caring and they "resolve" it in the worst way possible, but the situation with the CMC needs to be handled delicately...

Actually, FiM is a Canadian production. Edited by Jangobadass

Careful about that thinking. We have had, If I can remember correctly, 3 birthdays among the mane 6 already and an alligators. The characters do seem to age. Whether they actually age just to make things simpler is another question. I'm sure eventually we will see older versions of our characters in a "Twilight goes to the future" episode.

Not like, a shitton. Maybe some here and there (like Sweetie Belle's voice becoming notably more mature this season), but not into teenagers or anything of the sort; that's a recipe for disaster.

Actually, FiM is a Canadian production.

Commissioned in the US, written by American writers, directed, soundtracked, and animated after scripting by Canadian and Filipino production teams. I use American in this sense to describe MLP as the writers are LA-based, look at their resumes and they all worked on LA-based productions. If we were talking about the animation, the music, the voice acting, or the directing, then I would describe it as Canadian.

That truly depends on how much of a time frame the entire series will take place in. At the current rate time seems to be progressing in the show, I'd say the they'd be lucky to hit "pony puberty" (whatever THAT entails) at best. Aside from that, I don't see them being portrayed as adult mares in anything other than a "what if" episode, where they imagine what the future will be like...

You know, kinda like "Lisa's Wedding". BOOM, everyone who brought up The Simpsons. Didn't think I'd remember that one, didya? ;)

I like them as fillies, but if the show runs long enough, can they really stay that way indefinitely?

If they must grow up and get their cutie marks though, why not use that as an opportunity to tell stories about how one always has to continue developing their talents? Rainbow, Twilight, and Rarity do the most of this in the Mane 6, but .. maybe the CMC could have a unique take on it? I'd have to think about it. Or maybe you guys can think about it for me.
