It is unlikely but possible to pull off, with the fight scene between Twilight and Tirek in the season finale having far fewer parents freaking out than I thought it has created a precedent which may make this a tad more likely but it is still a long shot. Childrens cartoons have dealt with the subject of death before with relatively little controversy but MLP has the additional hurdle of being a "girls show" to contend with. Hey Arnold never outright said that Arnolds parents were dead only that they are missing and it is very likely that they are dead, Rugrats did confirm that Chucky's Mom is dead and there was even an episode that dealt with this quite well. Death is a touchy subject but one that a lot of parents make the mistake of shielding their children from completely, the episode dosen't have to play out like a grimdark fic to make its point and could even have the positive message about not forgetting the past but not letting it define you.
