I was going to make all these jokes about how having so many people vouching for you makes me feel like I can't accept you and stuff, but I don't need to do that. 

I mean I can just reject you anyway, right - I mean just look at your character's backstory, she charred her wind while rescuing pony folk? That's an unforgivable mistake! 

 

You know I think I might have actually role played with you before, if not only read some of your works; i'd be more than happy to have you along for the ride provided you're able to make your own introductory post as a part of the rebellion. 

Basically you're in the Crystal Empire and you're restricted to being in there, but aside from that there's really no other limit (within reason, of course).

 

Also can I just say, I love the artistic work on your OC, did you draw her yourself?

So, been working on my first post and I've got a quick question:

 

Symphony is a thief with ties to others like her: thieves, smugglers and so on... so natually she makes sense joining the rebellion.

 

Question though: am I good having her start without any direct ties to it? As in, she's just out to look out for for herself at the minute. Most likely she'll meet others as a third party (mutual 'friends') or just by accident.

Well you could always start with your two Shadows, if they're part of some group she might have met beforehand. 

The rebellion itself doesn't exist - so far your faction is just a bunch of ponies deciding that enough is enough in various ways.

Also because this is something I know first hand, as a left handed swordsman you will win so many fights just because everyone is right handed. And since everyone is right handed you get a tone of experience fighting right handed people. Heck some grappling/disarming techniques don't even work on left handed people. I was practicing with the local ARMA (Association of Renaissance Martial Arts)group and they were going over this move that you can do when you're in a bind, (as in your swords are touching, not a troublesome moment) where you put your arm in between theirs and twist, therefore moving their sword out of the way so you can hit their head with the pommel of your sword. It didn't work on me, because I'm left handed. However I could do the move on them. Just a little fun fact and something to think about.

Just to confirm for everyone, any minor events prior to the role play - like the medical area being filled with wounded - they're not elaborated on for a reason. 

You're all more than welcome to come up with whatever explanations you would like for events that wont effect the overarching plot of the RP, so long as you don't blow it too far out of proportion. (So, just try not to develop any major events like a full blown war out of thin-air, raids on the small towns and even local city conflicts are all fine, you all know where to take things. Normally I find that I put so many rules in place with the role play it becomes more of a book than anything, so i'm giving people some decent freedom to really get a feel for the events - the ones they can make up, and we'll all chip in little pieces of the story as it goes)

So... my Shadows - if acceptable - will take on the form of twins who Symphony grew up on the streets with (I decided that I wanted to draw more crystal ponies):

 

 

 

Swindle.

The thinker of the twins, Swindle knows 'just the pony' for whatever it is that you might need. He's always in the right place at the right time to take advantage of a situation. He deals with the various underworld types and is owned numerous favors by a large number of contacts - both across the city and beyond.

 

With enough time and money, Swindle has the contacts that can acquire an array of items and knowledge on the black market - even going so far as to reach contacts outside the city.

 

Despite any and all suspicions, he has never been caught. No matter the suspicion, Swindle always takes care to cover his tracks and ensure there is no hard evidence to implicate him with his deeds.

Glacier.

The brawn of the twins. Glacier maintains a reputation as a pony who solves problems by breaking things... and if that doesn't work, by breaking more things. Far more kindhearted than his career (if it could be called as much) or physical build would suggest, it troubles him to see ponies who aren't able to protect themselves being repressed and mistreated by the upper classes.

 

Glacier is loyal, strong and abnormally durable as far as ponies go. Alone, he is foolish, hardheaded and good for little more than brute labor.

 

Glacier might not be terribly intelligent, but directed accordingly by his brothers intelligence and intuition, he makes a destructive weapon of distraction and interference for the twins, before vanishing with the assistance of the poor, the homeless and the downtrodden.

Ideally, I'll have a post up tomorrow. I have a two hour car ride, so that should hopefully give me ample time to work something out (granted my car mates don't decide to drag me into the conversation)

 

I'm going to try and keep a two day limit between my posts at max (try being key word). I will also try to make a notice here if that two day gap will grow into something larger. Hopefully nothing that will stall progress or get me left behind like last time - though the latter should be avoidable, granted I don't go on a month long hiatus again.

I like Swindle, i'm not so sure about Glacier. 

Swindle fits the description of the Shadows I gave in the original post, quick thinking, calculated and avoiding fights at all costs. Glacier seems to be somewhat of the polar opposite of that - like a less thinking Stoic - as a thieving and espionage oriented "group" he would be really out of place when he starts smashing things up. I'd prefer if you could think of a pony with a more fitting personality - however...

If you can't think of one (or just don't want to) i'll allow him on the condition that his fighting be kept as an extreme last resort measure - we don't want him drawing the attention of any passing guards after all.

I'm not going to lie, that stalls the role play more than I would like - whoever will be interacting with you will have a days wait before they can continue their story, it's possible that their character will get "left behind" progress-wise even if they themselves are keeping up with the role play. 

Thanks for letting us know, but I would like to see you try and post at least once per day to keep things moving along.

I'm a little concerned by your more recent posts, nio, I would like to do a little research on your fellow role player's characters before you begin interacting with them. Saying things like him/her often in the role play will not only break the immersion the participants fall into, but will also cause confusion when interacting with more than one character. 

 

Also, the drop off location for the cart is out in the woods aside the empire?

Well, the idea behind Glacier was just that: he's a last resort. Swindle would be the one to actually get things done while Glacier would be a last resort in the event that fighting was the only option: aside from that he just deals with causing distractions and so on: generally not being as good as his brother.

 

I can roll up a new guy if he's a concern though, no worries!

Nah, i'm alright with it so long as he doesn't cause a disturbance (meaning that, so long as the rest of the rebellion doesn't decide to bring a brawler of their own) remember though, the shadows are for plot-forwarding ONLY. (And companionship, but hey)

You've put some work into him and it doesn't look like you plan on abusing him, besides, it might be fun for Stoic to potentially have some competition for sheer strength coming from inside the empire. 

Whereas Glacier is compassionate and caring, though a little simple, Stoic is more uncaring and brutal, preferring rage over thinking. Could be fun.

Would Doctor Mercy come from Borderlands Doc Mercy?

 

By "Ponifying" I meant that he used terms like "left-handed" and "arm" and a bunch of other human terms. It actually confused me for a few moments as I wasn't sure if his character was a pony or not. Or if the RP was "Humanized".

 

I was planning on writing it in one of the later posts but it may be more natural if you write a character in. Especially since I'm not entirely sure how the Empire ponies would treat Silver. As she's not exactly the most willing of servants.

That's what i'm saying about freedom - the general attitude in the empire is that Cadence has lost her damn mind, and while some of the ponies are fanatically loyal to her, the others are only serving because there's no other option for them. 

You're completely free to choose how they might act towards her - be it that they treat her with disdain for her differences, or that they are grateful she does actually assist with the medical side of things. Some of the other nurses there are of course in the same situation as Silver, they're not happy about helping but they don't have another option, whereas some of them are more concerned with the wellbeing of the guards and care less for the civilians, some of them are the opposite - doing their best to look like they're helping the guard while in reality they couldn't care less.

 

I've already mentioned that they'll be "sending somepony" and that's as far as it goes - you're free to choose the rest but of course I could always choose for you, if you prefer. I don't mind making a post to grab Silver's attention, just let me know what you'd prefer to do.
