Personally I'm not satisfied with the current gender options MLPForums have. But rather than make a site suggestion immediately I want to find out if other people would like to see more gender options on the site? Personally I think it should just be a field that you can type a set number of characters into in order to specify gender rather than rely on pre-set options that won't meet everyone's needs.

Hey , even if you're not suggesting anything yourself yet, I've moved your thread over to the Feedback and Suggestions section. It fits more naturally here, and gathering opinions about what people think of the site is one of the section's purposes after all :)

Personally I'm not satisfied with the just the 'male', 'female' and 'unspecified' gender options MLPForums have.

Not completely sure what you mean here, though. After somebody made another Feedback thread several months back, the list was expanded to this

Which seems to be more inclusive. I'm not against just letting people have the area to type into, though.

Edited my OP to be more up to date with the site currently. My point was to have the an editable text area. If you look at how people define themselves on other profiles there is too many options to cover with a dropdown.

No. I disagree. I think that most modern gender terms are largely created on tumblr for seeking attention and some of them have to do with sexuality.

There should be max 5 terms for this. The rest is flashy attention seeking that has no official serious and acknowledged medical backup to it.

Seriously though if Mlp forums ever adds "genderopressed" terms here i am going to nod sarcastically and mock it.

In any case free character space or whatever shouldn't be allowed because people are going to get fancy internet namings for them that none understands.

Cisgendered should definately not be added. And i dont even consider transgendered as a gender. It would become more of a "How do you feel about you and your gender" box.

I don't consider it good in any way. Because after that sexuality will follow and i'm pretty sure the forums will start feeling a lot more like facebook.

That said i am litterally unaffected by the gender of anyone. Unless they hit on me that is.

So? If your amused and everyone gets to pick the gender label they want that's a win win for everyone. No reason for MLPForums not to do it.

Then why aren't we adding Hermaphrodites to this?

The gender box for me is something that tells me you are xy or xx or what you have in your crotch area... Not something that tells me what you feel about it.

Its perfectly respectable to be anything you like but terms like transgendered or cisgendered don't have actually anything to do with how you feel about being a boy or a girl.

The matter of how you face the fact that you have a penis doesn't change the fact that you can have either that or the other or both in some rare cases.

On that note we should delete transgendered and add futas and neutered people. Does being without a gender organ count as anything? I mean there are people who neutered themselves.

In any case gender isn't something that you should be able to use a questionable term about. Especially when sometimes people confuse gender with sexuality and romance.

You've already said it doesn't affect you and the text area allows you to type anything you want Hermaphrodites included. So there is no argument here.

There is. Free text shouldnt be there to something so serious. Add choices yes but not total freedom someone can skew easily.

Gender identification is a pretty wide range. I support a text box added to the Other field if it doesn't exist already. Out of all the suggestions we've had, this seems like the simplest implementation with the least amount of impact to other members.

Good idea.

Ikr I'm suprised it's not a feature that's already available.

Ikr I'm suprised it's not a feature that's already available.

The IPB software basically evolved based on client suggestions and user modifications and hooks. Likely (as sad as this may sound) it wasn't a highly sought after feature so it wasn't added by default.

I will say that there are bigger fish to fry right now with the board though, like lag and images. I've always been the type if techie that supports fixing bugs before enhancements.

But this IS one I fully support.

I won't mind it, I just don't see a point to it. I'll support it, but I will just shrug when I see it. Not mocking it, I just think that something like that is personal and I'd find that out from talking to you long enough anyways.

That is probably the best explanation of why additional granularity is viable in an individual users profile.

Also, as some of the mods here know, I get member gender wrong all the damn time anyway. :D

Sexuality is the key word i want to underline here. Sexuality is not gender. Two tottaly different things.

I thought that the request was to address the limited gender options NOT sexuality.

EDIT: Actually strike that. Sexuality encompasses biological genetic expression, gender identity, and orientation or attraction. They are all components of sexuality.

Which supports and validates the request in when considering the OP suggestion for addition control on that profile question.

I'm probably gonna get called closed-minded for this (which, maybe I am) but the majority of genders other than Male and Female were created by attention whores on tumblr; but if someone just REALLY doesn't want to go under either of them, fine.

And to prevent this thread from becoming an proxy of an already existing Debate Pit and General Discussion thread, let me explain why this is a good idea without touching on the actual 'hot button' nature that we seem to be poised to go through here.

The entire point of the Profile Page on MLP Forums, agree or not, is to allow members to detail more about themselves to others who may be interested. The community is built around people coming together as acquaintances and friends, and the Member Profile is one of the ways like minded people can connect. The Profile Page and About Me page are closed channels of communication. As long as it adheres to the Global Rules (no NSFW, piracy, etc). The OP request fits within that spirit and purpose of the page, so by extension it is a valid suggestion.

The point is however that the majority of tittles available for gender dont describe the gender in itself but rather how they feel about it.

Rather than look it up people would rather just say it's wrong, that whole attitude I think we need this added in the first place.

People who don't want to be labeled as a gender at all.

So... Pangendered is a label for people who don't want to be labeled in the matter of gender?

Seriously-1.gif

Doesn't blank space fill that part too?

So why not create a new box altogether for it and have IT be free character space or whatever?

A text box if Other is selected should suffice. It would allow those who identify as bigender to apply that there. (As just one example of the implementation)
