Join the Pony.fm Alpha!

Twilight Sparkle ✨

I'm looking to build a dedicated quality assurance (QA) team to be Pony.fm's alpha testers and shape the site's direction in its earliest stages.

At this time, I'm looking for people who:

  • create (or have created) MLP:FiM fan music
  • are interested in uploading their fan music to Pony.fm
  • will report bugs they run into
  • will provide feedback on what's good, what isn't, and what's missing
  • enjoy trying new things!

QA staff will have access to a private forum where they can communicate directly with me and their fellow testers to share their experiences, request features, and directly influence the development of Pony.fm.

If you're interested in joining the QA team, let me know in a comment on this blog entry, send me a private message, or email me at feld0@mlpforums.com, and I'll add you to it.

I always am here if it is to help out a fellow programmer.

Glad to have your support, Neikos. At this point in time, I'm looking specifically for feedback from music artists, who are the primary target audience of Pony.fm, so I can't put you on the QA team yet, unfortunately (unless you've written music I don't know about?).

However, there will be plenty of opportunities further down the line for non-artists to help out with QA work. I'll keep your interest in mind and let you know when I'm at that stage!

i have created fan music and i am in the process of making more, i would love to help out

Thanks, Skullbuster! I added you to the team. I highly recommend that you follow the Pony.fm QA forum so you receive notifications of any new topics posted to it.

I have never created any music, and i have no experience with programing.(Well, i do know the basics)

But if you even need someone to give you feedback, i guess i can help you out in some cases. Let me know if you need me.

No programming experience is necessary or expected of any QA testers, Vicke. :) The primary purpose of QA testing is, in fact, to see how "mere mortals" do with the software.

As I said to Neikos, I'm currently looking for feedback from a focus group of artists who will (hopefully) end up uploading their music to Pony.fm. But I appreciate your interest and will let you know when the site is ready for QA work by listeners.

I can do the last three as I have a lack of musical talent.

Simple enough.

Let me start the job early and say that the register link is broken. Goes to a 404 error page about parasprites.

The registration process doesn't exist yet, heh. :P Because it will be closely tied to MLP Forums, it'll be fairly involved to implement, but it's the next thing on my list. But thanks - it's reports like these that will stomp out the issues. :)

At this time, I'm looking to build a focus group consisting of artists, so I can't put you in the team yet. But it's definitely encouraging to have your support and I look forward to working with you in the hopefully not-too-distant future. I'll note you down on my list of "people to notify" when I'm ready to open the site up to non-artists.

I'm interested.

Though, as you know, I don't make my own music. However, I do livesets. This site would be a good place to host my podcast, actually, so I thought it'd be a good idea to see how well the site would handle my podcast ?

The only thing I'm experienced in is making steps for stepmania, and that is not music.

xD

But I can help with the last three, however, I'm not good at programming either.

Well the way you worded the post makes it think that any of the items has to apply instead of all.

I don't make any music so I can't be in the team.

Though I'd like you to inform me when it's possible for me to have a look at the site, try out some features, what I like.. Ideas I have and stuff that could be done better. Give opinions and such.

Yea I can't really make music XD - but let me know when you need general site testers (listeners)

Wow, it's great to see all your interest, everyone! I'll do my best to try and personally notify you when Pony.fm is ready for public testing, but the best way to keep up would be to ensure you're following this blog. Thanks!

I have not actually considered having podcasts in Pony.fm before, but they shouldn't be difficult to include on a technological level. They'd benefit from having a special interface built for them, however. There won't be any podcast support in the initial release of Pony.fm, but I'll note it down as a future feature to consider. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, all of the listed items apply. sad.png I am in need of a very specific focus group right now.

Can I be a tester? Please?

I'd have to test it from a non-artist standpoint, but you know I'll report any problems I see.

When there's something for non-artists to test, sure thing. Right now, I'm looking for artists. :) If you know any, feel free to point them this way.

I wouldn't mind helping out in any way I can.  I am always looking for ways to help others, and help the community.  So if you need any help just let me know.  I am not too big on making music and stuff, but I have been writing a fanfic.  So just let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Glad to have you guys on board! I've added you both to the team. Go check out the QA forum section. :)

Pony.fm is a music hosting site, not a fanfic hosting site. I'm looking for music artists to work with right now, so do you consider yourself such or not? Thing is, in this first stage of testing, team members will be expected to upload their music to Pony.fm, so you need to have some music you've written to show for it.

If you're not a musician, that's fine - as I said before, there will be opportunities for listeners to test stuff out and provide feedback as well.

I'll provide "what's good and what isn't".

Having worked on a few other sites, I may have a good eye for that.

I do voice acting for various music projects like Epic Pony Rap Battles and have been a pony song writer. Sadly I don't make any music itself. However when you end up at a phase you think you could use me, I'm here to help!

I have a few songs I've done and hopefully more to come, I also voice act and I love the fanbase music, I'd like to try Alpha or at least Beta testing all this. I can also sing those quirky kinda songs perfect like The Grinch song, the Trololol song, Opera-like stuff, rap, beat-boxing, also I could try being a host, co-host, or a guest for it someday.

Non-artists will have a chance to join the testing soon enough! Keep up with the blog, and I'll let everyone know when that phase of testing is open. Thanks for your interest. :)

Nice to have two more musicians! I added both of you to the team, so go check out and subscribe to the QA forum.

@JTAC: Pony.fm is a music hosting site, not a radio station, so there won't be a show to participate in. The approach I'm taking is to invite third-party radio stations to partner up and license Pony.fm's music for use on their own stations. However, I've had some thoughts about creating an in-house radio station of our own. If that ever goes anywhere, I'll let you know.

@Apple-Jack: No need to write any new music specifically for Pony.fm - having some you've already done that you can upload is good enough (though the hope is that you'll like Pony.fm enough to put up all your future music on it as well ;)). Glad to have you on board!
