The 2015 March Madness Thread
Bhending the Rules replied to Inactive01's topic in General Discussion
I wish I could have warned you about Texas. I wish I could have warned EVERYONE about Texas. I told a friend of mine "Don't take Texas. They are awfully tempting, but they will give your bracket herpes". Everyone who has followed Texas closely this year knows that they lose games. It's just what they do. I took five losses yesterday (I picked SMU, Iowa State, Baylor, Ole Miss, and Purdue to win those games), but my Elite 8 is still intact so I'm okay as long as Gonzaga/Arizona/Kentucky go deep.- 21 replies

It was still hilarious to watch while it was going on, because it seemed like everyone was in on the joke and not REALLY taking it seriously. Also, that picture just about made me gigglesnort Vanilla Coke all over my laptop monitor. A sombrero has never quite looked so fabulous. (A friend of mine who's watching basketball games with me right now also approves.)

Rarity looks even better with a Fluttershy mane. They'd all look better with a Fluttershy mane. Flutters' mane can break the laws of physics with its "maintain a heart shape, regardless of what angle it's being viewed from" ability. Either that, or her mane is sentient. Or she can control it with her mind. Either way, it's AWESOME. I'll second these posts. I'll never care how popular she is relative to the other Mane Six, or anyone else for that matter. If everyone else can't see how awesome Flutters is, that's their loss, not ours. She did win that Hub fan poll last year, btw. We may just be the "silent majority".

I think this is Gonzaga's year to break through and have a great run. This is their best team in school history. I know we keep saying that every year, but it's true. They have scorers all over the floor, they have enough size to go toe-to-toe with Kentucky, and they defend well, unlike a lot of previous Gonzaga teams. The same is not true for Notre Dame. They have a great offense, and their shooters make them a threat to beat any team. (They shoot 51% from the floor as a team, which is just... insane.) But they don't defend. Their defense ranks 112th in the nation in efficiency, per Ken Pomeroy's rankings, which is easily the worst defense of all of the highly seeded teams. I have them winning two games before getting knocked out by Wichita State in the Sweet 16.- 21 replies

I'm a Wisconsin fan, so I've had plenty to cheer about both last year and this year. I've felt good about my team all year, but they got a really tough draw in the West region. (Advanced analytics have confirmed: the West is the toughest region in this year's tournament.) I'm VERY worried about the likelihood of running into Arizona in the Elite Eight again, and North Carolina and Oregon (our likely matchups before that) will be no slouches either. Kentucky, by comparison, got a very favorable draw (as if they needed it...) and is likely to romp pretty decisively to the Final Four.- 21 replies

I'll second the post above. All of the Mane Six are good friends with one another, it's just that we often see them in their worst moments as they're dealing with the Problem of the Week. I'm definitely in favor of the show exploring some of the lesser-seen relationships within the Mane Six. I get that Fluttershy-Rainbow Dash and Rarity-AJ are interesting because the characters are such polar opposites, but we've seen so much of it that I'm up for something different. Maybe an AJ-Fluttershy episode, or the aforementioned Pinkie-Rarity episode. We haven't seen much of that, and it could be a lot of fun.

So... after joining the Rarity fandom and posting for a little while, I kind of disappeared from these forums. For a long time. For so long, I wouldn't be surprised if all of the regulars have forgotten I was ever here. If anyone wonders why, well, short story: work. Long story: more work. But with season 5 right around the corner, it's time I returned. Last season Rarity shot up my favorite characters list at light speed, and I look forward to seeing what's in store for her this spring.

Hello from Bronycon, fan club! Posting here to make note of one random thing. During a chat with a fellow brony about a certain episode (that shall remain nameless), he stated his opinion, and followed said statement up with, "but don't tell Ghostie I said that". Ghostie, good sir, it appears your reputation precedes you.

What these guys said. The desire to study a particular group doesn't necessarily rise from the idea that that group is "abnormal". (Incidentally, in this particular case that couldn't be further from the researchers' mindset/approach. I won't say anything specific because I participated, but... just take my word for it.) Even the most seemingly trivial of things can actually be important in a way. Heck, it's entirely possible that the conclusion (and thus the point) of the research might end up being that bronies are by and large NOT in any way "abnormal". And you know what? Call me crazy, but from where I'm sitting, having large studies come out saying those sorts of things seems like it might do us some good. In conclusion, I'm with Jeric. Give these folks more responses.
