  1. LOL necroposts anyways just curious, is the OP of this thread even still around? Name seems to be unclickable. Last I saw him (last year) he was aggressively picking fights with members who didnt agree with him. Banned?
  2. Hmm maybebecause Gilda is a self-centered bully? Maybe that subconciously taps into our inner hatred and elementary school scars of being bullied at some point as well as former bullies who are now all mature and grownup and hate that they bullied people back then.
  3. other elements that made the show interesting hmmm can't speak for everyone so this is from my personal views. I'd say alot has to do with aesthetics too. -Character designs were appealing. They look more like puppies with really big eyes. Well to me that is. (Perhaps one of the reasons why I don't like the earlier generations. They looked too much like horses despite being cartoonified.) -Animation was cute. Smooth and simple yet balanced. It wasn't over the top or trying too hard. It wasn't overly detailed. (personally I found it quite refreshing at the time too. I was getting tired of anime style.) -Witty dialogues on certain situations. -Fan content. Honestly I would never even have bothered knowing or even checking out MLP:FiM if it weren't fan stuff that appeared almost everywhere. From image macro's to fan arts. Curiosity made me look for it and I liked what I watched. -Breaking the Stigma of MLP in general. I remember telling myself "hmm that was strangely interesting" after watching the 1st three episodes. I expected overly shallow plot lines and excessive girly stuff but it was nice for FiM to get rid of that. -Alot of the audiences are more liberated and open-minded nowadays. As each decade passes by, each generation is becoming more accepting and tolerant of things they don't initially understand. Though this isn't the case for most of the world's population, unfortunately. But its still nice to see that there is a slow change. -Bandwagon. Like any other fandom, some or perhaps alot are in simply because they see their friends and everyone else being in it. Whether they truly like the show or not, their very presence contributes to the show's popularity and the fandom's population. I'm sure there are more reasons out there
  4. Well, put yourself in their shoes. Think of it this way... Imagine you weren't a brony. Then you saw a guy pick up a doll and played with it by himself. Wouldn't that at least make you feel weird about it even if by a little? Because that's what they probably felt and we can't blame them for it. Most people don't regard us Bronies as the social norm. To them its "Dolls and Ponies are for little girls". So its natural for them to be weirded out by it. Unfortunately its something a Brony has to contend with in a group of Non-Bronies. Specially if said Non-Bronies are narrow minded. But don't let it get to you. We can't expect them to immediately understand what being a Brony is. You can tell them about it. Now if they choose to close their minds then its their loss on a chance to experience something wonderful. People will always have their own opinions and views over something. I personally believe we shouldn't let other people bully us for what we like but we shouldn't intimidate them about it as well. Aggressively defending (or promoting) the fandom will only draw negative attention to yourself. Even to the fandom itself. So relax. Don't let it get to you. Don't be insecure about it.
  5. As much as alot of us would love to see bronies actually incorporating Love & Tolerance in their lives, we can't always expect this of them. Some or perhaps a great percentage simply like the show's other elements and not the morals it teaches. As the fandom grows larger, its bound to encompass more types of people.. including the not so pleasant ones. From hot-blooded young viewers, to apathetic fans who just want to enjoy the shows and not the BS that sometimes comes from the fandom, to those who actually try to live by Love & Tolerance, and everything else that comes in between. Heck, some are even in the fandom under false pretenses. Have you watched the YT video "Teens react to MLP:FiM" ? One of the them wanted to be a brony because he thought it was about all about Trolling. Anyways, a community, no matter how small, will always have squabbles. Put two people in a room and its only a matter of time before they start arguing over something. That's just how people are. I've been here less than a week and already I saw a member who is more or less picking a fight with anyone who responds to his thread and is especially aggressive to those who do not agree with him. I think the problem is that too many people forget that an opinion they are entitled to is not something they should impose on others. This is something I see from people (in general) on a regular basis. Whether it be online or real life and sometimes its just tiring too see them be overly defensive about their opinions or get overly aggressive to overshadow others'. I guess what makes this whole thing about bronies scaring off new members more distasteful is the expectations. One would generally think a Brony is at the very least pleasant. Unfortunately, thios is not always the case. But yes, I do agree with you. Ignore the haters outside the fandom, start the friendship inside the existing community. It is a nice sentiment. Just don't expect too much. That way you don't get too disappointed in the future. because.. People.
  6. Honestly the only reason I can think of for Hasbro to give her screentime, or any background pony at all, is if they plan to sell a whole Toy series based on them
  7. I think what Cloud_Thunderhoof is merely trying to say is that MLP G4 is distancing itself from previous MLP shows. He didnt say EVERYTHING about the previous show incarnations are bad. Perhaps what he meant was that MLP G4 is trying to come up with its own content without tapping too much into the previous generations. Hence distancing itself.
  8. Unless Hasbro targets bronies rather than children for MLP story direction, maybe we shouldn't hope too much on it for now. The last time Hasbro gave fanservice in the form of giving voice to Derpy, even calling her by name.. some oversensitive viewer went on to complain about it and Hasbro immediately took measures for it. Changed her voice to sound more generic, "fixed" her eyes, and even omitted her name from the script. It didn't matter how many bronies came to Derpy's defense. "Concerned" parents' rants was given more precedence over all the Bronies. But we can't blame Hasbro for that, Like I said their priority is the kids and of course the parents' views who are watching the show with their kids. I'm sure you've all noticed the lack of Derpy screen time all through out season 3. So.. with that in mind, I don't think we should put too much hope on background ponies. Though Hasbro does give shout outs to bronies once in awhile, but I doubt this is their priority. Of course its still possible that DJ Pon3/Vinyl Scratch might still get more screen time that originally intended. Why not? Maybe they'll come up with a story line that significantly involves her. But so far there isn't any news or even just rumors about her. We can all just speculate until then.
  9. like most replies here, Im pretty sure its clear that all the Mane 6 are hard workers in their own respective fields. Applejack practically runs the whole farm alongside Big Mac. Wakes up early, feed the farm animals, plow the fields, harvest the apples, prolly delivers apples to the retailers, and from time to time repairs structures in the farm that need fixing (I assume that's what she does coz thats what I used to do with my dad in his farm when I was a young) Twilight works hard in the realm of academics, studies magic. Tries to create new spells. Researches old spells. And occasionally save Ponyville too. It may not be physical labor like Applejack does but as any of you who have ever crammed studies in college..can attest to how hard it gets. (On don't forget how Twilight can get obsessive on fixing everyone's problems) Pinky Pie works with the cakes in Sugarcube corner. Bakes stuff, makes ponyville laugh, also recently a part time baby sitter for two. And we all know she gives it her all when performing. Remember how she sang for each of her friends to invite them to Gummie's party? I guess its just not as noticeable coz she has always makes sure to have fun while doing it. But we all know that comedians sometimes cry inside. Rarity also works hard. Aside from having to design clothes (Believe me, its HARD to design clothes), She sews them herself. She gathers the materials herself as well. Well at least the gems that is. Basically make the whole thing run systemically to sustain the business. Fluttershy basically runs a 24-hour daycare center. Except in her case she takes care of animals. She is a full time Babysitter/Veterinarian. She patiently tends to every animal's needs and welfare. Imagine being a nursemaid to all those critters. Ever tried being left in charge of babysitting your younger sibling? Imagine having a house full of them. Rainbowdash maintains Ponyville's weather and hones her skills to get into the Wonderbolts. She doesnt use her status as an Element of Harmony take the easy path in. She actually auditions to get the part like any pagasi would. Perhaps she may only seem not as hardworking as the others because of the naps she takes on the clouds. But that could simply mean she finishes her job fast enough to earn herself freetime.
  10. well I don't think we can really rely on the show's consistency. I doubt writers had a sort of chart on their stats on how many strength points each one has. But putting that all that aside, I'd say Applejack is physically stronger though RD has more of an advantage due in part to her wings and ability to fly. Sure Applejack can buck a tree and apples come falling down by the dozens. But that's what her family has been doing for generations and probably what she's been focusing on since she was young. Her family line probably developed stronger legs for each generation that gets born. I'm sure RD can kick too but not as hard as Applejack does. With the use of wings though, RD can have better results. She can fly straight towards the tree and apply a stronger force. Does that make her stronger? Nope. But did she apply a greater force? Yes. That's because she used her momentum rather than brute strength. Seeing as pegasi spend alot of time flying rather than walking, I garner their legs aren't as strongly developed as the earth ponies do. Earth ponies don't have the benefit of wings or magic to make their work easier.. so I imagine they are physically stronger even if by a bit to the other species since manual labor is already a part of their regular life to begin with. Regardless of everything else. Lets just remember that the show is mainly targeted towards kids and not the more sophisticated teen to adult audience demographic of us, the Bronies.
  11. Derpy was already on the way to getting the recognition she deserved. Even Lauren at one point mentioned that she was going to get an episode focused on her. Heck, she already got voiced and even called by name! THEN it took just one overly sensitive viewer to complain about it. Despite the many bronies who came to her defense, it was more than enough to scare Hasbro to roll her back into the shadows. So no matter which background pony gets more screentime, I just hope Hasbro won't focus on ONE negative input over the thousands who say otherwise.
  12. I don't know anything else about Rainbow Dash outside of the show (fanfictions) aside from artworks. I like all the Mane 6 characters. But personally RD is my least liked character. I don't hate her, just don't like her as much as the others. They all have their own good AND bad qualities. I guess its that her attitude (whenever they show) don't rub off very well on me. She can be boastful, narcissistic, obnoxious, basically be an overall jerk. These are qualities that I don't like even in real life. So I guess distaste for it just reflects on her as well whenever she does embody them in the show. Though In fairness she has improved overtime, specially in season 3 and her good qualities always outweigh her bad ones overall.
  13. I think the lack of Sombra's backstory is that season 3 is more of Hasbro's story direction rather than Lauren Faust's. Crystal ponies were created to compliment the toys and obviously they needed a bad guy to antagonize them. then Poof! you get Sombra. Since he was never intended to be part of the original lore then that might explain for the lack of any history on his part at all. (same with Cadence & Shining Armor. Conveniently made to compliment the royal wedding play set) But that's just my theory. But anyways I think the writers still did ok integrating Sombra into the lore despite popping out of nowhere. At least Sombra was given a few flashbacks and a general explanation of his past. Chrysalis didnt even get one. All we know about her is what Cadence said about her during the big exposure scene. That she's a changeling and does this and that. Personally I didnt like him much but that simply coz I didnt like his character design much (i'm quite aesthetic) and I tend to be biased towards female antagonists (so for me to like a male antagonist, he'd have to be really really high up the coolness factor.) plus the fact that Sombra virtually had no dialogue. What made the other villains more likable for me was their voice acting. Otherwise: Yes, he is the villain who has achieved the most. Despite just being a lone unicorn, not being Alicorn, no god-like powers, nor did he have an army.
  14. As much as we would want to see NMM, Discord, Chrysalis, and Sombra to be smart enough with their plans to actually be a real threat... maybe what we should remind ourselves is that these shows were intended for kids. We as bronies were an unforeseen fanbase. Though Hasbro does try to give shoutouts to bronies from time to time, this is not their priority. Their focus is still the children that the show was intended to target. Kids don't need a deep backstory for a villian to know its the baddie of the of the week. They don't need to see the villain kill/destroy thousands. They don't need a villain who can realistically carry out complex plots to take over the world. So why the simplicity of it all? Because stuff like those are reserved for the more mature shows. So If we viewed the villians on a pragamatic perspective.. then yes, they are all dumb. -Nightmare Moon with lame obstacles? why not just crash the moon itself on the planet! Yeah there's some eternal darkness for ya. -Discord underestimating the ponies despite obviously getting their groove back? Yeah snap your fingers and rearrange their organs. Now thats some goood artistic chaos right there! -Chrysalis defeated by love? Hell, just consume the love beams. Shoot back with an even bigger lazor! -Sombra defeated by a thrown Cadence? pfft just turn to smoke again, let her enter the fog then suffocate her. See those would work. If this show was Rated T for teens. Perhaps one day Hasbro will create an MLP show that is targeted towards the mature fans. Maybe then they will address it with villains. But for now, we should accept that its still a kid's show. We all just happen to enjoy it too. Peace
