  1. Prey (2022): By far the best Predator movie since Predators (2010). An exciting back to basics thriller with great Native American representation to boot. 9 out of 10. Bullet Train: Overstuffed and manic, but still fun action movie. Feels like an imitation of a Guy Ritchie movie with all the violence and snappy dialogue. 8 out of 10.
  2. RIP Mrs. Nichols. Your trailblazing career provided opportunities for women of color not just in entertainment, but also in real life. Damn, between Bill Russell, Pat Carroll, and now this, it feels like all of our legends are leaving us.

    general media RIP David Warner

He was one of the greatest character actors to ever grace the screen. RIP.
  4. Nope - Jordan Peele's latest film is a trippy, funny, and very unconventional take on aliens. Starts slow, but really picks up soon after. Keke Palmer is the highlight of the movie. 8.5 out of 10.
  5. Thor: Love and Thunder - Definitely felt like a retread of Ragnarok, only messier and uneven. Still, it's plenty fun to watch and delivers on the comedy. 7 out of 10.
  6. The Black Phone - A surprisingly tense and investing thriller. Ethan Hawke is terrific as the bad guy.
  7. Top Gun: Maverick - A thrilling, fun, and surprisingly heartfelt sequel to the original. I had a blast. 9.5 out of 10.
  8. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - It's messy and uneven, but this is still a wildly entertainment entry in the MCU with strong performances and direction by Sam Raimi. 8.5 out of 10.
  9. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - A whacky and endlessly entertaining comedy that lovingly parodies the career of Nic Cage. Pretty sure there's one reference to just about every movie he's been in. 9 out of 10. The Northman - Everything you could want from a Viking movie and then some. Brutal, gorgeously shot, and not afraid to get into the weirder parts of Norse mythology. 9 out of 10.
  10. Morbius - Easily the dullest and most uninspired superhero film in ages. It feels like an early 2000s comic book movie back when studios where embarrassed/ashamed by the source material. The characters were bland, the effects were lame, the pacing is rushed, and the story feels incomplete thanks an underwhelming climax and an abrupt ending. Matt Smith tries his best with a hammy performance, but it's not enough to save it. 3 out of 10.
  11. RIP to a talented actress, comedian, and all around standup person.
  12. This is sad news, but I wish him and his family the best.
  13. Turning Red - A funny, charming, and touching outing from Pixar. 9 out of 10.
  14. The Batman - Might just be my favorite Batman to date. Gritty, intense, and thrilling noir mystery with impressive action and top notch acting.
  15. Batman & Robin (1997) - Every bit as bad as I remembered it, possibly worse. It's a two-hour-long toy commercial with an incoherent story.
  16. The inconsistency of Netflix content doesn't help, but that's only one factor. The other factor is that Netflix burns through so much of its content by releasing it all at once. Their shows get a weekend worth of buzz before fizzling out. Conversely, other streaming services are releasing their shows weekly which leads to prolonged discussion and buzz.
  17. In fairness, lots of streaming services go through these up and down trends. There's almost always going to be a lull in viewership or subscribers when new content dries up.
  18. Scream AKA Scream 5 (2022) - A worthy installment in the franchise. It's violent, suspenseful, funny, and self-aware (as a Scream movie should be). It was fun seeing Sidney Prescott return and I also liked the newer characters. 8 out of 10.
  19. Honestly, I think so. But I don't think this applies solely to action cartoons. I think the future of animation in general lies on streaming.
  20. RIP to a Hollywood legend.
  21. The Matrix Resurrections - It won't be for everyone, but I enjoyed how meta and self-aware the tone was. Definitely better than Revolutions. 7 out of 10.
  22. Spider-Man: No Way Home - It's very rare when a movie this hotly anticipated lives up to the hype, but this is one of those instances. Great action, fanservice is used in a way that serves the story, lots of BIG surprises that I won't give away, and it's surprisingly emotional (Tom Holland gives his best performance yet as Peter Parker). No Way Home is easily the best MCU Spider-Man movie, one that has me very excited for what Marvel and Sony have in store for the character in the future. 9.5 out of 10.
