  1. Luna is my favorite princess. Not only is she interesting and entertaining, but I really relate to her. I've grown up with a brother who my whole family adores to the point where they don't hesitate to talk about him so greatly, and then wonder why I'm not as good as him right in front of me. He is naturally gifted at everything he does, so to even compare with him I have to work twice as hard. It's not that I'm bad at things, it's just that what I am good at isn't thought of as important to my family. While I'm practicing for hours on the trombone for a performance (with a family who doesn't find music to be important or even requiring skill) everyone will tell me to stop so that I don't annoy them, but a moment later go on about how much my brother was able to bench press. Regardless of what I do it just can't compare with what he does. What I do is either not considered real music, or not the same quality of programming as the people of Apple. When I try to defend what I do, it only gets the response of, "Oh sure, if you say so." Something in the story of Luna being overlooked and outshines by her sister resonated with me. Aside from all of that, I find Luna to be a well designed, dynamic, and interesting character who shows off the skill of the writers at Hasbro.
  2. I agree that this episode needs more Luna and Discord, but as for the prior part I have to disagree. It is true that all it means to be a brony is to enjoy MLP, which doesn't mean that we are in any way special, but we are definitely different. Being different isn't a bad thing. Studies of thousands of bronies show that the following facts are true. Bronies tend to have higher rates being accepting of new things. We also have a higher rate of people who are either attending school beyond high school, or having already surpassed a high school education than others. We also tend to have a more positive outlook than others. That shows that we are different, but in ways that end up shaping who we are. When you refer to none of us being special, everyone, whether brony or not, has something that makes us special. When I say, "special talents," I simply mean the individual things that we are good at. For example, Black Gryph0n has a special talent of music. That's not to say that a musician who isn't a brony doesn't have a special talent of music, it is instead saying that they both have that special talent for music. Like Twilight Sparkle once said, "Each one of us had something special, that makes us different, that makes us rare." Finally, it is true that nobody is oppressed by a regime, or in a war with society, but that doesn't change the fact that many bronies are bullied for liking MLP, and many people hate that people like it (The Anti-Brony Brotherhood for example). They may not be in war over it, but words can have a large impact on some one. If people admonished you for liking MLP, who is to say that you don't feel oppressed, or at war. In a sense wars actually have been fought for bronies. The Glorious Revolution was fought so that the people of England would have certain rights, such as freedom of speech, allowing them to have their own opinions on things.
  3. In a way this episode portrays bronies. If you think about it, anyone who is difference is looked down upon. Society tries to assimilate everyone to make the world "better." These ponies who are different are like the bronies. When the ponies accept that they are different and that isn't a bad thing is like when a brony accepts that they like MLP. When they use their special talents, it is like how bronies use their own skills to add to the fandom by making new products.
  4. That is a great drawing, and shows great potential. Most people like drawings that are show accurate, but I think that when you use your own style it is 20% cooler. The fact that you drew this in a relatively short amount of time makes it even cooler. With practice you will be able to make drawings like this in 10 seconds flat. I can only imagine what it would look like if you had more time to do this. I think that her hair being over her eye makes it even better. Finally, the fact that you managed to draw a rainbow coloured pony in black and white only makes it cooler. Keep up the good work.
  5. This was definitely a good episode, but it could have easily passed as a regular episode. The song was good but the song at the end of season 4 would fit better because it is actually about how their differences made them special. It was good, after the season 4 finale it just couldn't compare. Starlight Shimmer was a good antagonist, and it did a good job introducing the idea of the Cutie Map. I like how it had shown how their special talents are the only way to catch Starlight Shimmer. It had a good moral and was all in all a good episode. An improvement that I can think of is if Starlight got rid of her own Cutie Mark and took Twilight's so she could rule everypony.
  6. I am going to try to keep this as spoiler free as possible because I don't know how to make a spoiler box, so be warned. Most people aren't going to read this so I am going to reiterate this in large letters. WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD! A lot of episodes suffer from a lack of Pinkie. No one can say that this episode suffers from a lack of Pinkie. Pinkie shows a lot of character growth in this episode. She realizes that sometimes having fun isn't always an the best thing. Being a friend means that sometimes you might not do what you want to do. I also love it when references are made to mythology. I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to this kind of stuff. However, I don't understand why all of the ponies in Ponyville went to Twilight instead of Mayor Mare, or any if the Pinkies. I also don't understand how nopony realizes that one Pinkie is acting completely different from the rest. The only explanation that I can think of is that the Mane 6 don't trust that Pinkie cares about them enough for her to not want fun. These small details that doesn't really affect the show, but it bugs me. All in all I would rate it at 4 out of 5 stars.
  7. Be careful what you say about princesses when Luna is around. You don't want Nightmare Moon to come back to gobble you up. Dear Princess Celestia, Today I learned a valuable lesson about friendship. Your family is like your very first friends. I've learned that sometimes you need to learn to treat younger siblings well. You never know, they could turn into hideous, evil monsters. Luna: Ahem! Me: No offense. Luna: None taken, (Rainbow Rocks reference.) Your ever-faithful subject, FlutterFly761.
  8. Due to some research that this thread has inspired me to do, I have found what I believe to be the relative ages of the 'Mane' Six plus Granny Smith. Twilight is the youngest because in the episode, "Cutie Mark Chronicles" she was just enrolled into magic school when the others were in school or working. In the same episode it can be assumed that Fluttershy is older than Rainbow Dash due to how much bigger she. We also know that Fluttershy claims to be one year older than Pinkie Pie, who we can assume to be older than most of the others because she lives with, foalsits for, and works for the cake family. Rarity is older than Pinkie Pie because when she got her cutie mark she was in charge of using sharp objects to make dresses, and owns her own business. Applejack is assumed to be the oldest because at the same time as the others were just starting to learn, she is trusted to go off on her own away from home. Finally, and just for fun we know that Granny Smith is several centuries old. She was one of the founding members of Ponyville, and the Winter Wrap-Up in Ponyville has occurred for centuries. For the question of if horse years were the same as human years we could use a ratio to find that every human year is about 2 2/3 years in horse age. However, we can assume that in Equestria human years are equal to horse years based off of Princess Cadence saying that the reception that Pinkie Pie had planned would be perfect for a 6 year olds birthday party. In the end this is all open for interpretation though.
  9. I am honestly sorry if what I said offends you. I can see that my word choice might not have been as good as it should have, and you will be glad to know that I used your advice and fixed it. I was just using this analogy to say that people are being treated wrong because they are different. I was not in any way trying to compare the magnitude of this mistreatment, but I can still see how this might offend you. However, I do have the right to make this comparison without judgement. Although I am willing to accept criticism I believe that like John Peter Zenger I at least have the right to say this without being called, "...really dumb..."
  10. Quite frankly I am a closet brony. This is why I love this forum so much. I have wanted to talk with my friends about MLP but I have never been able to gather the courage to tell them about this. I have been able to talk and share my opinion on this website with people I know will understand me. I have been trying to test the water in a sense. I have been making MLP references that only bronies/pegasisters will understand to see if any of them admit to understanding what I was referring to. So far this method hasn't worked. There is one friend that I have considered telling. If we were in Equestria he would definitely be the Element of Loyalty. My problem is figuring out how and when to tell him. To any open bronies I would like to congratulate you for your courage in overcoming social pressure and admitting your connection to the fandom P.S. If anypony has any advice on coming out it would be very appreciated.
  11. People hate on anypony who likes MLP FiM for the simple fact that we are different from them. The same thing happened in the Civil War, and civil rights movement, although to a much lesser extent. What many people don't realize is the troubled people go through for their opinions. It is human nature to agree with what is most like you. Others believe that because we are different from them we are also less than them. I feel like we are actually one of the most accepting groups that can be found. In fact, I first learned about this fandom while reading a message written by a brony on his blog for other bronies/pegasisters written from the heart. People also feel that because we like a show that is intended for a different target audience it can't also be enjoyed by many others. I believe that this just shows the quality of the show. I can however see where other ponies come from when they dislike us. There are a few people who take the fandom to a level where others aren't good enough. This may be a minority of us, but they can still have a major influence on opinions about us. I still don't believe that a few people should have such an impact on the entire fandom. If an anti-brony met the average brony/pegasister they would see that we are actually good people and friends.
  12. First of all, Fluttershy is absofantastic. The reason that I like Fluttershy is that she reminds me of myself. I have been trying to deal with my shyness, but I have never been able to get out of my shell. Fluttershy has honestly helped me deal with my shyness. Anyways, the reason she is so absofantastic is because she seems so sweet and kind, but she can also stand up for her friends and animals. The only flaw I can find in her is that she is often too shy to stand up for her friends. She can also be like Rarity was to Sweetie Bell at first. She always takes, but doesn't give much, like when she wouldn't watch the dragon migration. Finally, where does she get money? She doesn't have a full-fledged job, but she constantly has money. This makes me wonder if she is completely dependent on her friends on money.
