  1. I think Equestria Girls wants us to perceive Sunset as just another girl, but the fact that she’s actually a pony who travelled to another dimension and is living in another body is never far from my mind while watching.

    1. Thrond

      Thrond

      That’s sweet.

  2. There's an almost sitcom-ish feel to some season 1-4 episodes that I really miss, where the main characters hung out in simple situations and humour was derived from their character interactions. I wish the show had more of that in recent years.

    1. Hierok

      Hierok

Yeah I miss the humour too, but since the show has matured a bit, many humour is lost and will probably not return. ;)

That is similar to me when i was watching S6 :nom: I really missed S2 during S6. Right now, i finally get over it, nothing stay unchange forever, i dont have any ability to change the way it is so i learn to adapt.

Old writers, they all gone now, dont expect the show can return to what it was or your enjoyment of the show will ruined by everytime you wish it could return to what it was.

I just want more PONIES, enjoy Good episodes and screw bad episodes :nom:

  3. "It Isn't the Mane Thing About You" - Give this better jokes and you have a season 1 episode. Which, to be clear, is a compliment, as the show hasn't felt like this in years. It could also perhaps use a better main conflict, but even as is, I can imagine this actually pretty great if it only had better comedic timing; it avoids the cringe comedy one would expect from this premise. Rarity's also a little off, to be honest, but everything from the climax forward is absolutely aces. I'd be kinder to a lot of episodes if they ended as well as this one did.

This ep remind me of the old days: FUN. :pout: Nothing too complex, nothing too meta, nothing too political :fiery: Josh knows how to write a fun episode.

@Lambdadelta Didn't realize this was Haber. Kinda glad for that, because that would have raised my expectations unreasonably high. This is actually one of my least favourite episodes he's done so far, but it once again confirms that he is easily one of the best writers on the show right now. So glad to have him back!

  4. Seeing spoilers for an upcoming episode has made me realize that I'll probably never get sick of Twilight freaking out. That will always be funny to me.

Oversaturing it may lead to flanderization. Careful what you wish for.;)

Some people think that is already the case and they have a point but I don't mind.

  5. Anyone read the synopses of the next few episodes? A lot of them have to do with the mane six's families. Interesting trend, that.

    1. Kyoshi Frost Wolf

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

Bout time. We need more family development within the mane 6.

  6. 'Twilight's Seven'

    Themes: 7/10
    Story: 8/10
    Overall: 83/100

@Mane 6 I like those two episodes about the same. Both are delightful.

  7. Lately I've been finding myself failing at basically every 2D platformer I've tried to play. At a later world of New Super Mario Bros. U and I'm dying constantly.

    1. Cash In

      Cash In

      That happens to me occasionally.

I beat Super Mario World easy when I was 12 years old. I played again a couple of months ago and I kept dying at the first couple of stages. I  played yesterday and I was suddenly cruising through it.

Maybe it depends on mood. I'm getting tired at the moment.

  8. Whenever this show disappoints me, I can take solace in the fact that I'll never hate an episode as much as I hate "Magical Mystery Cure."

    1. theonenamedDJ

      theonenamedDJ

It really should have been a two parter to flesh out... well, everything. Also, not that I dislike Twilicorn, but some rare times I feel it was a pointless change. I mean, things did come about from it, but were they substantial enough?

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

That sort of upgrade in legal status and responsibilities can't have been easy, so I wish the show would delve further into that. I don't think the idea lacks potential, but as is it doesn't seem to have had much of a purpose.

  9. "The Big Mac Question"

    Entertainment: 7/10
    Characters: 7/10
    Themes: 4/10
    Story: 5/10
    Overall: 58/100

Look, my system works out for me 90% of the time, and I'm kinda indifferent to this episode, but that seems a bit low.

    1. Megas

      Megas

Maybe don't rely on 4 different scores? I don't see why you need to have four separate scores for different things instead of just having one score, that just seems to over-complicate things. Or just drop scores completely. I don't think adding arbitrary numbers or letters don't really do much good

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

@Kiryu-Chan You're probably right. I started doing this a few years ago on a whim but now I'm mostly keeping to it out of habit. I do like scores though, for pretty much the same reason that I like ranking things.

  10. Discord probably could have gained Pinkie Pie’s cooperation without the trickery and mind control.

    1. Shrug

      Shrug

      You’re actually probably right.

But that makes me wonder why the show hasn’t included more interaction between those two. I could see them getting along very well.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

There’s probably a limit of how much Discord audiences can handle, and they preferred other stories.

  11. So, "Fluttershy Leans In"... yikes. A new motivation for Fluttershy which is resolved in a single episode, a conflict driven entirely by shallow new antagonists, a decent moral delivered really clunkily, absolutely everyone acting like a moron, zero meaningful character development, almost no jokes to speak of, frequent expository dialogue... awful.

    1. Rawzy

      Rawzy

I agree, this episode was absolute garbage compared to Rock Solid Friendship. Up till now in the season it felt like a storyline showing the development of starlight but no.....random episode comes flying in and now apparently Fluttershy is one of the most assertive ponies out of the mane 6.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

Fluttershy's assertiveness was established in season 6, and I fully expected that Starlight wouldn't be the lead of every episode, but I don't think either this or "Rock Solid Friendship" come even close to "A Flurry of Emotions." All I want is for this show to be fun. Is that too much to ask?

  12. If the mane six went to a convention together, Applejack would probably be the only one not in cosplay.

    1. Thrond

      Thrond

Maybe Fluttershy too, but not for lack of interest.

      Thrond

Oh my. I have a vague sense of what's going on, but I'm not sure I want to know more.

  16. Over time, it’s become harder and harder to understand what Twilight’s semi-solitary life in Canterlot looked like. It seems she interacted with plenty of people.

Not since season 5, which fucked it up royally.

  17. How do I unfollow an individual status update?

    1. Rikifive

      Rikifive

Sadly you cannot unfollow a single status update. There's no option to do so, other than muting them all, that is. :twi:

    2. Frostgage

It's not possible to unfollow an update per se, but deleting all of your responses to that update would have the same effect.

  18. Okay, season 9 opinions!

    5. Sparkle's Seven
    6. Growing Up is Hard to Do
    7. The Last Problem
    8. Between Dark and Dawn
    9. The End of the End, Parts 1 and 2

    11. Uprooted
    12. She Talks to Angel
    13. The Last Crusade
    14. Daring Doubt

    16. The Big Mac Question
    17. Student Counsel

    19. The Last Laugh
    20. Sweet and Smoky
    21. The Summer Sun Setback
    22. A Trivial Pursuit
    23. 3, 2, 1, Greaaat!
    24. Dragon Dropped

    Seasons, ranked:

    1. Season 2
    2. Season 1
    3. Season 6
    4. Season 4
    5. Season 8
    6. Season 9
    7. Season 3
    8. Season 5
    9. Season 7

I enjoyed 63% of season 9, which is the same percentage as season 8. Broadly speaking, I found the first half to be slightly safe but frequently delightful, and the latter half fairly sloppy but more enjoyable than expected. I'm still not sure I like the idea of Twilight becoming ruler of Equestria - at the end of the day, I really just do not care about Equestrian politics - but if they had to do it this way, I think that epilogue is the best way they could have done it. There are so many ways in which this season could have been better... but I also think it had no right being as solid as it was. Kinda like this show as a whole, really.

It sounds like you're saying that the show could've been worse, and I kind of agree with that, but it really should've been much better than it was especially since it got over 200 episodes and plenty of other tie-in media.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

@Number62 Well, yeah. This show has been genuinely great just often enough to make all of its flaws especially frustrating. It could easily have been so much better.

  19. Suddenly, my reactions are all Rarity.

  20. People *really* aren't willing to get over the S5 finale, huh?

They wont get over S5 finale and they wont get over S6. It's time to GET OVER these guys.

  21. It’s probably for the best that we only saw Sunset Shimmer stream games that one time. I don’t wanna know the kinds of things she says when Fluttershy isn’t around...

  22. "Not Asking for Trouble" - Nice to see this show being funny again, but this is a really simple episode with no internal conflict and a moral which the show did as far back as season 1. Doesn't even try to take on real-world xenophobia, because it's really just one person's fault. Any other season this would be nothing outstanding... but it's pretty neat to see this show being funny again.

    1. Kyoshi Frost Wolf

      Kyoshi Frost Wolf

This is how I felt too. The episode didn't really have any high stakes to it and nothing it did was extremely memorable and it was also quite simple, but I think that is why I liked it more than A Royal Problem. It felt more fun than anything and that worked really well.

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

@Kyoshi I much preferred "A Royal Problem," and even found that episode funnier, but this did feel like it had more space to breathe. I'm just glad we had two funny episodes in a row, because I have not had a great time with the rest of this season.

  23. Have you considered... horses?

  24. There's a vocal minority here who seems to dislike season 2 and the idea that S2 is a bad season while season 5 is a good one makes me feel out of touch with this fandom. That opinion makes no sense to me.

    1. Corgis

      Corgis

Season 2 was one of the best though.  I did not know people here actually disliked it but I guess everybody has different tastes.  I liked season 5 as well though (mostly the first half) so I guess I can sort of see were people are coming from.

    2. theonenamedDJ

      theonenamedDJ

I think part of it was because S2 had a lot of exaggerated and annoying characterizations (particular towards the jerk end). Bronies tend to get pissed off at jerk behaviour.

  25. My Little Ponies: do they anime?

    Fluttershy: Canon Weeb

    Twilight: Likely Weeb

    Rarity: Cosplays, but otherwise casual

Pinkie: Watches whatever her friends are watching

Rainbow: Watched Dragon Ball Z dub and thinks that makes her uncool

    Applejack: no

    1. Megas

      Megas

pssh, DBZ was the one anime you could watch and still be deemed cool

      Spoiler

RD seems most likely to watch most of the popular shonen anime and the more over the top stuff like Kill La Kill and Gurren Lagann

    2. Thrond

      Thrond

@KiryuChan My idea is that she has the wrong idea about what is and isn’t cool, I mean she only just came around to adventure novels of all things.

If we’re getting into specific shows I’m not qualified to comment, but that seems about right. Maybe Fluttershy finally convinced her to watch something else...
