  1. The song itself was fairly enjoyable, and it's always nice to get a new look at how the Humane 6 differ from the ponies in this world. It's also strangely refreshing for Applejack to get a different kind of song that still manages to compliment her voice quite well. Though the fact Applejack got a song here, and we know from the promo that Pinkie will get one, I'm thoroughly convinced there will be one for Sunset Sushi as well, since all three of those came from the same minis collection. I really hope they get to that one, because at this point it's becoming a little uncertain whether or not Discovery Family will even air all the shorts this month.
  2. That and Sunset Shimmer are the two things I always look forward to in every EqG installment. I don't know, there's something I find really intriguing about seeing how they would function in human bodies and in a society that more resembles our own, especially when they perform activities you wouldn't be able to see them do as ponies (such as whenever they use modern technology or even small touches involving their human limbs like nail-painting). It's even better whenever they actively explore what separates the two versions apart, something that I really hope we get more of in the series.
  3. That's the exact approach I believe / would most like them to take.
  4. I guess Boulder Media didn't get the memo or something? There's at least one more short from them that also has her in her old outfit. It's also worth noting, for a brief moment in the other short, you can see the full statue despite Sci-Twi's presence.
  5. I honestly think they could easily do a format where we would occasionally see a magical wisp affect someone in the area, like what Juniper Montage went through. In fact, I dare say a series is the only medium where I think it could be used to its highest potential.
  6. Honestly, of all the things in EqG that have managed to win my interest over time, puppy!Spike is one of few things that I actually become less interested in. His position just kind of prevents him from filling the "supporter" role his Equestrian counterpart does, and apart from the climax of "Friendship Games" I can't even see much they could do with him. His part seems to have been increasingly downplayed, and it's just as well really; every time he appeared in the specials, my reaction was little more than "Oh yeah, he's a thing". He doesn't even have the intrigue that I get out of watching the ponies' personalities play out as modern-day humans.
  7. Speaking of that screenshot... the basic design of the shampoo bottle above the cactus may remind some of you of a certain real-life shampoo. And it is all kinds of great once you find out what it actually resembles.
  8. I don't really have anything against the 5 shorts we got last Sunday, but I think I got more enjoyment out of this one than I did with all of those combined. Maybe it's because of Sunset Shimmer and the fact we actually see her living quarters (which seems far too good to someone who was completely on her own for the longest time, if you ask me).
  9. To be specific, IIRC it was developed by Meghan McCarthy with a handful of eps being written by Dave Polsky (this is most likely why he left MLP, with the surprise exception of "Mirror Magic"). I'd personally be fully on board with 11-12 minute episodes. And, let's be real here, displaying them on YouTube is probably more profitable than Discovery Family at this point.
  10. Hah, called it! By the way, here's another announcement of interest that also came up on Twitter. If this means what I think it does, hoo boy will I go crazy...
  11. So far, "Raising the Roof". This is largely for finally giving EqG Apple Bloom and Scootaloo a substantial role (even if they get minimal dialogue), and Boulder Media's animation working to the short's advantage. I think they did a better job with the dancing than DHX probably would have. But admittedly, I am looking forward to the others more. Largely because of Sunset, and a couple of the ideas peaking my interest a lot more. Hopefully they'll be released in some form this month, and it would only make sense if they did considering they are called "Summertime Shorts".
  12. Well, we've had a couple of foreign comics that are clearly directly based off one of these shorts (which was confirmed by one of said comics foreshadowing "Raise The Roof"). Additionally, the promo we got for Sunday's airing showed clips of these setups that weren't part of that night's pack: That takes up at least 5 more that are known. There are probably even more that weren't foreshadowed in either.
  13. I should point out there's at least 5 more shorts in this collection that we haven't seen yet. The promo called Sunday's airing a 'first look' at the Summertime Shorts, so I can only assume they are all listed as part of that and we shouldn't have to wait much longer for them. And Sunset will be in at least 2 of them given what was shown through both the promo and foreign comics.
  14. It might not even be a short, at least not in the Summertime pack (irony). It could easily correlate to a scene in a fifth TV movie or even a series (which I still think is by far the best route for EqG to take at this point), since the minis relevant to the current shorts were revealed 5-6 months ago. That being said... yeah, even though they very obviously won't do anything too revealing, it's still pretty safe to say some people will go wild over this.
  15. Well, this was called a "first look" at Summertime Shorts, so I can only assume the rest will be released not too much longer. The way they worded it also implied it's a sneak peek of a future release, possibly on YouTube.
  16. There's at least five more, if I correctly counted the clues we got from both the promo and certain foreign magazines.
  17. My suspicions of there being more shorts than these were 100% confirmed, as half the clips that were in the promo were nowhere to be seen. And sadly, none of these contained Sunset Shimmer, though much of that has to do with three of them taking place during the Fall Formal. All five were enjoyable in their own way, but probably the only one I see myself revisiting with any regularity is "Raise the Roof", since it has the most energy to it and it's surprisingly the only time so far in EqG that Apple Bloom and Scootaloo have made a substantial appearance.
  18. They will each be 2-3 minutes, but it won't be directly tied to any film in particular.
  19. Not to mention her outfit and the setting exactly matches one of the Minis that is part of the same collection as Sunset Sushi.
  20. Well, oddly enough, despite it showing at least one clip of both, it only explicitly mentions ONE music video. That, along with a variety of other reasons (more than 5 setups among the clips, a couple of foreign comics based off these, etc), is giving me a very strong impression tonight's shorts won't be all of the set. This was most likely a last minute move TBH.
  21. Well, this came clear out of nowhere - remember those two shorts that Russia leaked back in April? Well, they're airing among a few others on Discovery Family tomorrow at 8:45pm. 4 shorts and a music video, to be specific. Here's a promo for it. Note that it calls this an "exclusive first look", which may or may not be implying there's more beyond these, possibly enough to fill an entire 22 minutes. This is also implied with the fact I counted 6 setups among the clips shown in the promo (unless one of them somehow merges two, though I'm not quite sure how they would). We'll find out if this is true soon enough though.
  22. I fully agree. Though if they keep varying locations as much as they did in the specials, they should be very much fine in that regard. And I think the recent specials as well as Legend of Everfree have also shown exactly how much more depth they can give the characters, which definitely bodes well IMO. Not to mention a series would provide many more opportunities to expand their personalities, since the films often ran into the trap of having to push them onto the side.
  23. Truth be told, while I'm not a big fan of his character or anything - in fact, I did think his role in the first movie and even the second to an extent could get a little cringey at times (it was likely only in there because Hasbro wanted them to) - when you get down to it, there's really not much to be said about him. And that's basically why I feel like he's overhated; there's not much to really bash other than the fact he's uninteresting. Besides, I think more recent installments have made an effort to add more to his character, which I think at the very least deserves some credit.
  24. She was more hypothesizing than anything - and even then, just because the motives can be similar in each case doesn't mean the results will be. Also, the girls don't seem to be aware of the magical leaks altogether, let alone have enough knowledge to draw the aforementioned conclusion themselves. It's a literary technique known as "dramatic irony".
  25. The very end of "Legend of Everfree" displayed several wisps of magic leaking out of the portal, with one of them becoming the main catalyst for "Mirror Magic", giving us a good idea on the role they will likely play on EqG from here on out. However, with it being such a big mystery what we can even expect from now on (right down to the format), I have to ask: what do you think the crew are going to do with the others? Because I would honestly be on board with more 22-minute specials or a series that every so often has a character who feels down and wishes to accomplish something fall victim to it, much like what Juniper Montage went through. They wouldn't necessarily have to take the demon route like with Juniper, but it would at least be taken to an extreme which culminates in a moral. It sounds like a pretty solid format if you ask me. Imagine what they could do with characters like Flash Sentry (conflicting emotions toward his love interests), Trixie (the recent magical incidents making her not feel special), or even Sunset Shimmer herself (she starts to miss the magical wonders of Equestria).
