    Age is not the problem, but that they are different in both cases. The cat and pony sound a lot more silly than the dragon and pony.

    What other relationship would be better than sparity?? Spike x Ember is very unlikely because they are clearly just friends. The only one that fits with Spike is rarity, no doubts about it. However, the only bad thing is that they are of a different kind.

    I think they would be a good pair if they were the same species.

    Hopefully it will end, since the whole story has been a mere unilateral blunder since the beginning. Although their friendship is very strong when compared to other main characters.

    Episode The Cutie Mark Chronicles explains that Spike is just a little younger than Twilight, in other words, much older than sweetie-belle.

    Maybe it's not romance but a very strong friendship. My opinion is that this "romance" has continued for too long, and nothing has happened in time. However, they both care a great deal, which means that their friendship is something much stronger than mere friendship.
