I'm not really sure they ARE the best at what they do, though. They're very good, yes, but not the absolute best. Rainbow Dash's Sonic Rainboom was impressive, but not enough to get her into the Wonderbolts. So we might assume there are better fliers out there than her, or that they're capable of feats she simply can't do yet. She's gotten into bad crashes and messed up plenty of times; what she's got in agility, she lacks in finesse and form. And Twilight Sparkle is still in training. Her spells have failed to work before, and they take a lot out of her to do. Meanwhile Trixie barely broke a sweat during her show. And she often has to look up the spells she performs, which either means she hasn't tried them yet or still hasn't mastered many of them. I could pretty much go on with everyone else in the Mane Six. Pinkie Pie's TOO proactive when it comes to making friends, and that obviously doesn't work well with everyone. Applejack didn't win the rodeo she went to, so obviously someone out there's doing better than she is. Fluttershy wasn't able to get the animals in the Canterlot garden to like her, so her sway over animals isn't all-reaching. And Rarity might be a very gifted fashionista, but she's not the only one out there and is not well-known in the field, apparently. Plus they've all obviously got some growing up to do, which I see as a major inhibition in being considered "the best". Just my thoughts on the subject. Aww yeh, fellow Celestia fan! *high five*

Wow where even to start with this. First off I'm not sure why you started a huge topic about this, as Brony is just an asinine label for a fan just as much as Potterheads and Whovians is. It's really not this big revolution people keep making it out to be. Second off, if you have to separate yourself out as being special for liking MLP just because you're a man, the problem isn't those "anti-sexism PC" people, but you. I'm a little worried you're talking about being against sexism as though it's a bad thing. It...really isn't? :/ It might seem silly to you, but to you it's just an inconvenience. To people who call it out when they see it, it's a reality that women and men that ally with them that they have to do more than they should have to in this day and age, because sexism is so deeply ingrained into our society. And they have to be put up with being called silly for it because it's been made so normal. Now just. Enjoy the silly talking ponies and don't fuss over labels, goodness.

Blast. I had something hilarious in mind if they actually did have to go through the trouble of freeing him. At least I don't have to wait as long! -
What is your favorite fanfiction(s), and why do you like it? I actually don't read much fic anymore, but there's a really good Dislestia fic I was reading a while back I liked called For All that Must Be. I haven't caught up completely yet but I was quite intrigued by the first few chapters. Which fanfic do you feel the greatest emotion from? THIS ONE SWEET JESUS What is your least favorite and why? Cupcakes, if only because it's so pervasive in fandom and the story itself is pretty sub-par aside from shock value. The only thing I really found interesting about it was the fact Pinkie was acting totally normal about the whole thing, but nobody ever gets that right. She always has to be ~creepy~ and ~blood thirsty~. Or depressed in the case of that one blog by Crooked Trees that I also did not like. Have you ever wished you never read a fanfic? Oh certainly. Have you ever tried to write a fanfic of your own before? For FiM? Not yet, no. I've got some storyline ideas knocking around my head, but they tend to lend themselves to a visual medium rather than words. What do you feel about clopfics/grimdarks? They're usually really bad. XD I think it's because people TRY to be sexy or TRY to be scary/deep/creepy/gory/whatever. With smut, you've just lot to let it flow naturally, just get into the characters and let instinct take over. If I wasn't so iffy on horse-bits I might give it a go myself...there desperately needs to be more Discord/Celestia smut (and the only stuff I've managed to find was either non-con or. Really corny and OOC -- I'm looking at YOU Mark of Chaos). Maybe I'll try sometime. WHO KNOWWWWWS. But yes grimdark is rarely done very well because you can tell the author is trying to say something deeper than they know how to say it. Most of the more popular stories I've seen tend to rely on shock value in order to scare the audience...and to cover up for truly mediocre writing. Both these things can be done well, but I've yet to find a really striking example. Other thoughts? Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I started reading it and got incredibly uncomfortable with the fact it seemed to pretty much be a wish-fulfillment story. And the writing was...very not good. In fact it's pretty on par with any other self-insert fic, so I'm not sure what makes My Little Dashie different.

movies/tv Anime: Which show should I start off with?
Castoro Chiaro replied to OkBuddy's topic in Media Discussion
I recommend the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime. My best friend from school isn't an anime fan, and she LOVES that series. Very compelling characters, and just a great story in general. It holds a pretty dear place in my heart; don't think I've ever gotten as attached to an anime series on a personal level as I have that one. My personal favorite anime is Samurai 7, an adaptation of the film The Seven Samurai. It's a show with very little lag time; there's almost always something happening, and the plot is always moving forward. The animation for the fight sequences is beautiful, and the characters themselves are quite diverse and interesting. If you like more surreal stuff, Paranoia Agent is just brilliant. Every episode is told in a different style, and it's just a mindf*ck all the way through. I love it to pieces. -

All quiet on the western front. Something come up? If need-be I could attempt to start a topic...just not sure exactly how I would kick it off given my character is. A statue. XD It'd mostly be thoughts. Maybe some way to introduce the Elements of Chaos or whatever we're referring to them as. -
While I don't clop, I don't think it's wrong either.
Castoro Chiaro commented on Bendy's blog entry in Rush's Blog
I don't think it being perceived as bestiality is people's only problem with clop. Personally I'm more bothered by seeing the characters reduced to nothing more than sexual objects, when MLP is supposed to be a show for girls that celebrates being a girl however you want to. Equestria is shown as being a land where stringent gender roles and inequality simply don't exist; women don't HAVE to be pretty all the time and don't have to worry about what men think of them, and vice versa. So seeing that being brought into it just feels really wrong to me. I try not to judge those that clop because what the hell we've all got our fetishes, and I'm not saying all mature art for this show is just straight-up wrong as I do enjoy some of it (long as it's kept well out of the reach of impressionable eyes) but...for the most part, I'm not overly fond of it and can understand when people are much more upset about it than I am. -

Dad Walked In On Me Browsing The Forums
Castoro Chiaro replied to Zerrodo's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Actually, neither parent found out about the series through me. One of the kids my mom works with at her job is a Brony and recommended the series to her, and when she asked me about it I said I liked the series, but I wasn't sure if she would. We did end up sitting down to watch the first episodes and "Return to Harmony" parts one and two, but I'm still not sure if she likes it or not. My dad asked me about an Applejack icon, and when I asked him how he knew the character, he said MLP is a guilty pleasure. His favorite is Fluttershy. c: -

I actually burst out laughing at a few of your comics and I don't usually laugh so hard at pony comics. You've got a great sense of comedic timing and turning a situation to make it funny. Really my only suggestion is to work on how you draw the ponies, because sometimes the anatomy gets pretty wonky and it distracts from the joke. Consistency is very important in making comics.

Baking. I love making things, and I love seeing how much people enjoy eating them. It's just very rewarding for me. Also Tom Hiddleston. What a cutie cute.- 240 replies

My Little Pony confessions and secrets
Castoro Chiaro replied to Esmeshy's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Let's see... 1. I dislike clop art in general -- there are a few pieces I've found that I liked, though -- but blast it all I really want to see more Discord/Celestia smut. I've only found one picture I really liked and I need moar. 2. I have something of a trainwreck fascination with blogs like Molestia and L'il Miss Rarity. I HATE them, but sometimes I poke in on LMR to see where the heck the storyline is even going. I don't even know anymore. 3. I think Crooked Trees' style is really boring and I wish people would stop emulating it. It just looks so...emotionless. Don't get me wrong, he's VERY talented. I just wish there was more feeling in his pieces. 4. I actively go out of my way to break the mold in terms of fandom headcanons. For example, my human headcanon of Fluttershy as having a bit of pudge came about because I noticed she's almost always the thinnest of the group. Which makes sense, but what fun is there in making sense I like trying new things. ...actually, yeah, this. I think this is the only community I've been in where people are really open about masturbating and it's kind of like "...um. Good for you...?". -

Would Discord recognize him, then, or would he be totally confused when they first meet? Just need to be sure so I can write him accordingly. -
gaming Favorite Generation of Pokemon?
Castoro Chiaro replied to Zerrodo's topic in Media Discussion
Crystal version was perfection, man. I can't think of a Pokemon gaming experience I had that was as fun as that one was. The story was great, the world was great, the graphics were great...just a great game all around. Gen 1+2 will always be my favorite. -
Hrm. I suppose Honesty as he's not a very funny guy, which would be ironic given the whole secret identity thing. XD But I'll see what I can do with it.

Men get crap about liking MLP because it's girly. So, in response to this, Brony culture, or what they're referring to here, caters to straight men. They insist it's totally a manly thing, when it's not. It's girly. And that's okay. Girly =/= bad. The term Brony was originally created for guys to single themselves out as fans of the show, again as totally manly, NOT girl fans. It might be gender-neutral now, but that's how it started, and that should be acknowledged. I still think it's really unfair to say they're bad people when we don't even know what the community itself is like.
-
I can't really judge the content of the site because I can't see it, but judging by the Welcome entry...I'd say this is actually a good idea for a community. Hear me out. A problem I've noticed in "Brony culture", and I think what this site is referring to, is the need to "masculinize" the fandom and tailor it to suit a male audience; for example, some clop art that's more suited to male gaze that fetishizes women and lesbianism. Some people don't like that, but are usually told by the vocal majority they're taking it too seriously and, from what I've heard, called a slew of pretty horrible names. Think back to the Derpy drama and how people were misgendering Yamino and sending death threats because she expressed an unpopular opinion. So I think it's a good idea to have a safe space where they can freely express those opinions. ...also you guys are drawing some pretty wild conclusions based on the fact they just said they didn't like the term "brony"...they never said "NO MEN ALLOWED!!!11" just that they didn't like the term/culture.

Castoro Chiaro replied to Lightning Flicker's topic in Everfree Planning, OOC & Discussion
Oh my gosh. I will totally take Discord if you still need someone to play him. I've been musing on him a lot as of late and it would be so fun to have a chance to use him. I can make an OC too if we need one for one of the Elements of Chaos or whatever they'll be called. -
I don't care all that much about the character, or the background ponies in general, but Ditzy Doo sounds much more like an actual pony name. "Derpy" seems more like a nickname. I'm kind of glad they're not trying that again, to be honest...the backlash was just absolutely absurd and kind of a pain to deal with.

Wow okay sorry that took so long the picture took a while to color. BUT HERE IS MY LITTLE WOOBIE. I don't think he'd fit as an element, so he can just be a supporting character. To add to the bio I have written here, he's chosen to side with the ponies because he's terrified of going back to the hive just to starve again. Or worse, being a run-away.

Spiff! Just finishing up a reference image, then I'll have him up in a jiff. c: He'll be a magic user (though he's pretty horrible at it). Thanks oodles for the information!

I'd like to join, as I've got an OC that I think would work well as a Changeling. Quiiiiick question, though: can Changelings do magic in this setting, or can they only take on appearances?
