Dad Walked In On Me Browsing The Forums

So, maybe about an hour and a half ago (as of the date/time I posted this) my Dad walked in on me browsing the forums. Not sure if he noticed or not, I couldn't tell, as he didn't comment on it. He walked into my room to tell me he was going to run some errands. Most of the time when he discovers someone doing something he won't confront them about it when he first finds out about it though, so maybe he'll try talking to me some other time.

Besides giving me a heart attack, it also made me wonder how your parents/guardians found out about your Bronyism (granted that they do know). I'm curious as to the answers that I'll get.

my parents found out before I even considered myself a brony. I found derpy and did some research as to what she was supposed to be. I had assumed she was a fan character, but when I found out she was actually in the show, I went to my mom and was all "hey mom, look at this pony that's in the new my little pony. I'm gonna watch the show to see if I can find her :U". her reaction was basically confusion as to why a cross-eyed pony would be in the show.

Let me say that I'm a very open person. I was nervous about confronting my aunts at first, because MLP is usually a show for little girls. But they're used to my weirdness with anime and furries and my weird way of talking. I just came out and said i wanted a lot of Pony stuff for my birthday and they didn't seem to care. Well, they asked "Ponies?" "Ponies." was my response, and for emphasis I described them. 'Ya know, colorful little ponies that talk?' and they just accepted it. they just know I'm odd and have an addictive personality. I'm a member of so many fandoms that I think they've just decided to say 'Sweets is a weirdo, love her or leave her.' they chose to love me.

I don't think you should freak out or anything. Freaking out makes it worse and to a parent it makes itr seem like you're doing something wrong. If your Dad does confront you, just nod and do what I did. "I like ponies. they're cool and the show is really good. It's just a cartoon, no big deal, right?"

May Celestia be with you if he asks. And know that we're here to support you.

I simply told my parents that I like ponies, and they accepted it after short explanation. They don't really care, only sometimes they laugh at me ( not in offensive way of course).

It's not like there's any problem with you being on the forums or liking the show. It doesn't really matter.

My parents found out because after I watched my first episode, I ran out into the living room to tell them I found a new show I like. I do that whenever I find something cool.

-Mom-

The following is a dramatization with paraphrased dialogue.

Me: Hey, so, ponies. They're awesome. Should come and watch them with me sometime. Great characters, great plot (HEHEHEHEHHE, swag.) and sweet animation. Taken the internet and globe by storm.

Mom: If you like it, great. But I ask you to respect my choice, in that I don't want to watch a show about ponies. It's bad enough your sister made me watch that stuff when she was younger. I'm all good.

Me:...John De Lancie plays a villain who's basically Q all over again.

Mom: *le huge Star Trek fan. Megusta face*

-One hour later-

Mom:...I can't believe you got me sucked into this.

Me: *'problem?' face*

Mom: Why can't I have hair like Celestia? I want hair that sparkles and flows... (not even joking, she brings this up whenever Celestia comes on screen now it's pretty hilarious)

I wonder if my family is just different to the rest.

When I told my Dad I like MLP he was all like "It's alright son,I like it too."

That was the best moment of my life.

Then he told me that my mom used to like it before too.

So if my Dad or Mom sees me on this forum or any other video's they won't mind.

Win of a family.

Me: Nope

Dad: *sigh*

but of course I'm a girl.... although some bronies don't seem to mind much of their parents view on the show xD

My family have walked in on me using the forum a lot of times. They haven't seemed to notice that it was My little ponies. But everyone except my stepfather knows. They don't care at all, although my stepfather looked a little strangely at my Fluttershy shirt today. It's Fluttershy screaming: You're going to love me! So you can't really see that it's a pony. But I don't he is the kind of guy who forbids me watching it.

Well, for me, I'm a girl. So when my parents found out, they didn't really care. However, if I were a boy, I'm pretty sure my parents would have a long talk with me. My neighbor told me that if his stepdad found out he likes the show (he's not abrony, but he knows about it) then his stepdad would make fun of him.

So I'm not sure. I guess us fangirls don't really get payed attention much by our parents since they think it's natural and all that stuff. However, I bet it would be a different story if I were a guy. :P But I guess most parents don't mind, either way.

The only time my mum said it was an obsession is when I went to bed at 1 o'clock (friday movie night :D) and when I got up at 6 o'clock turned off the PC once again (well, Viscra wasn't feeling well that day, I wanted to make sure he's ok! :D). In both cases she asked me if what I'm doing has something to do with ponies to which I had to reply positively. :D

My parents didn't really care, I'm pretty weird anyway. I don't think they know I'm on brony forums, but I haven't told them just because I don't see it an important thing for them to know. But they've seen my mad collection of ponies and they like 'dude ponies' but also like 'meh whatever'

It was kind of an accident, my parents wouldn't have known if it weren't for my brother.

So me and my little brother had an argument and he knew I'd be super pissed if our parents found out I liked MLP, and he had nearly given it away twice. The next time I saw him he had a smirk on his face, so I figured he must have told my mom. I went and talked to her about how the new MLP is different than the old MLP, and after our conversation I realized he hadn't told her at all and I gave away my bronydom on my own... -_- the little troll. It was kind of a good thing though, my parents were just fine with it.

What do you mean, you're not supposed to? There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a brony or pegasister. I was driving with my dad somewhere and we were talking about cartoons and I led up to the brony movement. Of course he was confused and questioned my sources, but then I mentioned that I was. His reaction was (and still is) a confused, "You like My Little Pony?" He doesn't have an actual problem with it, but he doesn't know what to make of it either.

My mom, on the other hand, didn't care at all. I was talking about cartoons again, mentioned it, and she just went, "Oh, that's nice." I had kind of expected a more dramatic reaction, but indifference works too. I managed to convert my brother, and he's finally comfortable in his brony skin. He won't tell people himself, but if I say that I'm a brony he'll throw in that he is too.

Sometimes my parents tease me a bit and people online give me death wishes, but you know what? Haters gonna hate ;) Ain't nothing gonna keep me from my ponies.

My parents have seen me watching the show, looking at the forums and viewing the fanart but they've never told me anything about it.

My mom just asks me once in a while why I'm watching all that stuff, and I just tell her I like it.

Your mom fucking ROCKS

True story, bro. I wish my mom was as awesome as that. Also, MLP is good bonding XD at least she knows you're not using drugs.

My mom first asked me was it some kind of porn since they were all girls. I have the weirdest feeling that she really wanted it to be...

Thankfully, she hasn't said much more about it. Last thing she said was something about how much money ive spent on blind bags. Only about 20$ or so.

My parents already know im weird, so they werent very suprised. I downloaded season 1 in HD and watched it in the living room (big screen and surround sound, much better then watching at a pc). At first they sighed and had this face on as if they were gonna say "where did i go wrong?" but they're ok with it now. I actually got my dad to watch a few episodes and he remembered all the mane 6 names :)

My grand-mother walked in on me. She didn't say anything about it, though.

I actually confessed about watching it while discussing about the recent Quebec elections. It went from economy to gayness and I told her about how stupidly quick people call others gay. MLP came up.
